Kris Faafoi, Minister for not doing anything on Clamping

I don’t drive, so I have no skin in this game, but the idea that someone can disable your property for a tiny parking infringement is a total and utter rort.

Out in Henderson, and that weird Ponsonby Antique shop, many motorists have been stung by predatorily clampers.

The grief this absurd abuse of disproportionate power causes should be stamped out, for reasons known only to God, the new Government have decided to look at the industry but only to set maximum fines???

Why should a property owner be allowed to use disproportionate force to enforce their property rights?

In a situation of self defence, you as an individual can not go beyond a use of force that is deemed reasonable to defend yourself.

Why are property owners afforded a far broader definition of what is proportionate when policing something as trivial as a car parking space than an individual fighting to save themselves from violence?

This Government are in desperate need of looking decisive.

Clamping is a simple thing to ban and kill off, it would be popular, instead we have them bumbling again.

  1. Yep, this one’s kind of hard to understand. It’s not even as if there’s a “clamping lobby” the government would have to fight. As you say, banning it altogether would be a popular move with nearly everyone.

  2. Its legalised extortion and it causes a huge amount of grief and quite plainly is wrong and clamping badly needs a government who has a clue to deal to it and outlaw it. And frequently people who do not have the money to pay it as well.

    But the Right Useless “Minister” Fafoi, vociferous in opposition, now cares hugely about the rights of these extortionists and could not give a shit about their victims. It’s as if he has a shareholding in the bastards. Meekly talking about regulations, “Minister”, is weak, pathetic, and useless.

    On top of the TPP back down, the selling off of more NZ water to overseas business (BIG FAIL Tamati Coffey) and the Green Party, we have spineless morons like Fafoi to go with it.

    And where oh where is the Labour Party leadership gone? AWOL for several months now the PM and others seem to not see what we all see. Jacinda, please read the mood. Supporting clampers makes you and your party as bad as those arseholes!
