Rather than screaming at Matilda Rice and David Seymour, shouldn’t you be more concerned you’re watching bullshit TV in the first place?

Hold the phone blocker – someone on Twitter was offended at shitty TV show – it’s a shocker on the rocker!

TVNZ defends ‘disgusting, damaging’ Heartbreak Island incident
TVNZ is defending its controversial new reality show Heartbreak Island after a viewer slammed its portrayal of dating as a popularity contest.

The viewer took to Twitter to condemn the show as “disgusting” and “damaging” and called for TVNZ to air the show at a later time than the 7.30pm timeslot.

The show sees 16 singletons shacking up together in bures on a Fijian island, with regular opportunities to swap partners. The winning couple receives $100,000.

At issue was the moment in Heartbreak Island’s opening episode in which two contestants were revealed to be “the least popular” on Heartbreak Island.

…it gets worse…

Act leader David Seymour: Don’t blame me for Suzy Cato’s Dancing with the Stars exit

Act leader David Seymour copped some flak on social media after Suzy Cato’s elimination from Dancing with the Stars on Monday night but is unrepentant about his survival and has no plans to withdraw.

Despite repeatedly getting much lower scores from the judges than other dancers Seymour has steered clear of the bottom two courtesy of a higher public vote.

Asked if he felt bad about Cato’s demise, Seymour said that was not up to him.

“I got into the show because people voted for me. All the people who are sad that Suzy went should have voted for her.”

Rather than screaming at Matilda Rice and David Seymour, shouldn’t you be more concerned you’re watching bullshit TV in the first place?

Aren’t you complaining about the dealer while smacking your vein?

Meth hysteria, dirty politics, journalists illegally searched and mass surveillance powers – these are the real stories of us as a people, this is abuse of power and yet gets a fraction of our attention compared to Dancing with Mediocrity.

If you have the time to complain about the micro-aggressions on Heartbreak Island, perhaps you have too much time on your hands?

  1. Bread and circuses; shouldn’t the Daily Blog be ignoring this BS entirely? Make every piece about Jian Young until the Natzis take a hit.

    • It is so offensive to look at that picture the word that comes to my mind is “grotesque”.

    • I’m pleased Martyn has written this piece as “reality tv” is insidiously poisoning our young folks’ who watch it as they grow up thinking it’s the norm. It’s tragic

      • I disagree. Only career bureaucrates and Cold War relics are shouting China China China. They’ve got 1.4 billion people to feed and no time to wast on the opinions of sheep.

  2. These programmes are part of the reason why the television in my house has sat largely unused for the last three years. That and the unmitigated garbage that passes for “news” on it.
Hell, if someone stole the TV I probably wouldn’t notice for several weeks.
I hope that one day the government will reintroduce the TV/broadcasting licence so I can publicly refuse to pay it.

You can tell how (un)desirable tv sets are now when burglar’s steal your books and leave the tv alone, still covered in dust…

  3. Funny thing… I noticed a bit of “Heartbreak Island” whilst visiting a friend last night. At first I thought he’d left a soft-core porn dvd playing, until I noticed the ads…

Fascinating. Soft-core porn is now legitimised as acceptable content on free-to-air tv, disguised as “reality tv”…

    I’m in the wrong business.

  4. It looked like Seymour was defecating on stage, that idiot, does he really think he can get more votes for ACT by doing this nonsense?

  5. He is very popular with the young girls at St Cuthberts, Diocesan & the Catholic Girls School Baradene. They are block voting I heard.

  6. she looks like a leopardess stalking a baboon…it takes courage for amateurs to put themselves out there with professional dancers and be prepared to make a public fool of themselves .I think ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is a real laugh and occasionally very good magic at inspiring other would- be dancers to try dancing… but I don’t deliberately watch it or any other tv

….what I hate are those ghastly fake dating /coupling games…making a voyeur public spectacle out of what should be private
