  1. NOT the mainstream media:

    ‘War and remembrance’

    https://www.rt.com/shows/crosstalk/426230-russia-war-victory-impact/

“Today marks the 73rd anniversary of victory in Europe over fascism. This is one of the most important dates on the Russian calendar. That can’t be said of the Europeans and Americans. We discuss how that conflict continues to impact Russia’s view of the world to this day.

CrossTalking with Mark Sleboda, Peter Kuznick, and Xavier Moreau.”

  2. What has happened at The Standard?

For the last 4 hours all attempts by me to even just view this blogsite were greeted with this message below:

    This site can’t be reached
    thestandard.org.nz refused to connect.
    Try:

    Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
    ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I wonder what the problem is?

Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

  3. Bold move by the Greens.

Greens threaten their continued support of the Government

Green co-leader Marama Davidson told TV3’s The Hui “there is no Government that the Greens could be part of that would allow this to continue…”

The statement was made in reference to Housing NZ’s refusal to allow a disabled tenant to install a solar power starter package that was going to be provided and installed for free.

The statement was made at around 22.55 into the show
    https://www.threenow.co.nz/shows/the-hui/season-3%3A-sunday-6-may-2018/125685/M21250-300

The Housing Minister initially tried to distance himself, stating it was an operational matter, but has now asked Housing NZ to look into it.

Good on the Greens for flexing their muscles over this. Shame they weren’t prepared to take a similar bold stance with their opposition to the TPP.

  4. Update on The Standard:

  5. More short term thinking on water and our environment!

Canterbury cow numbers lift to buck national trend

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/103734057/canterbury-cow-numbers-lift-to-buck-national-trend

The already stressed APARIMA RIVER could suffer another blow as there’s two resource consents with Environment Southland which if granted will total 1.1 BILLION litres per year these are
    Russell Jack
Application for consent to take and use water (for irrigation) 100L/s , 8.640m3/day and 648000m3/year from the main stem of the Aparima river.
    Glentui Ltd
Application for consents to take and use water (for irrigation) 57.6 l/s , 5.148m3/day and 490700m3/year from the main stem of the Aparima river.
This will not only take water from the river but likely add nitigon and other pollutants to the river and ground water with the intensification which will come with these new irrigation schemes.
Environment Southland has not made these a public notification resource consents so the public can’t put in a submission.
