‘Time to decriminalize cannabis – German police group’

“A German police officers group has called for the decriminalization of cannabis, arguing that “there has never been a society without drug use in human history, you just have to accept that.”
Head of the Association of German Detectives (BDK) André Schulz spoke out in favor of ending the “arbitrary” ban on cannabis and creating a regulated market for marijuana.
“The prohibition of cannabis has historically been arbitrary and until today neither intelligent nor purposeful,” Schulz wrote in the German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost.
The detective says the group is advocating for the decriminalization of cannabis because the current legal system stigmatizes users, promotes criminal careers and occupies a huge amount of police services without making any real progress in fighting drug abuse and crime.
Some 70 percent percent of drug-related cases relate only to drug users, and not dealers or smugglers, he argued in his post. Schultz also suggested that promoting responsible drug use and helping addicts, while protecting children, is a more effective policy than the country’s current system that largely relies on “repression.”…

‘San Francisco to expunge thousands of marijuana convictions’

The San Francisco district attorney’s office has begun a process to expunge weed-related convictions from thousands of criminal records.
At a media conference Wednesday, San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon estimated that his office will immediately dismiss 3,038 marijuana-related misdemeanors and begin reviewing another 4,940 marijuana-related felonies to be reclassified as misdemeanors.
“Today I’m announcing that the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office proactively will be dismissing misdemeanor cases, sealing the records of those who were convicted for marijuana offenses,” Gascon said.”…
Is Waitangi Day supposed to be New Zealand’s national holiday? I wonder, the MSM do not seem to see it that way. Only RNZ was reporting on Waitangi Day today, the TV channels were filled with infomercials, advertising, light entertainment, silly game shows (even on Maori TV) and endless garbage. NO mention of the meaning of the day, no extra programs, and I think some shops are opened also, so shopping day for many.
Also I noticed many neighbours getting stuck into trimming hedges, mowing lawns and doing DIY work at home, little time to reflect on the Treaty and what else there was.
If this is how a ‘public holiday’ is celebrated, I despair.

Disagree….people note Waitangi Day. RNZ has great coverage . And you dont have to be out stomping around with a flag or shouting to be thinking about Waitangi Day…you can be having a family holiday and going about your chores
