Let’s start naming storms after MPs & NZ Corporations

How was that wild weather eh NZ?

Where parts of the coast line were flooded.

Hilarious stuff eh sleepy hobbits?

Probs is that it’s going to get worse.

Far, far, far worse.

Climate change caused by pollution from humans has super heated the bio-sphere in  manner not since since millions of years. The normal cycles of the planet that slowly heat the planet up and down have been over run by human made pollution which is leading the entire planet headlong into sudden and catastrophic climate change that will make it difficult for our species and most of the species on this planet adapt in time.

It is no longer a scientific question of why climate change is occurring anymore than it is a question of the Earth being round. The only people who are climate deniers are those who feel culturally alienated by having to agree with environmentalists and those economically tied to the current capitalism that is causing the pollution that is driving climate change.

Climate Change is no longer a scientific question, it is a political problem.

From now on, The Daily Blog will be naming all storms hitting NZ by the names of MPs who are doing sweet bugger all and by the NZ Corporations exacerbating climate change.

The truth is that out current political system is utterly incapable of acting with the urgency required so demonising the MPs and Corporations causing this is a fantastic way to generate the level of loathing and hatred to motivate voters into voting a radical party into power.

Look at the current Government’s response to global warming – to be carbon free by 2030.

What a load of meaningless bollocks.

By 2030, over 50% of the oceans will be collapsing as bio-habitats.

By 2030, East Coast cities in the U.S. can expect to see two to three-times as many flooding incidents.

By 2030, 122million will be driven into extreme poverty as  direct result of climate change.

By 2030, 100million will die as a direct consequence of climate change.

By 2030, even if the Paris Agreement is actually implemented, we will see a planet warm to 3.4 degrees by the end of this century meaning there will effectively be no future civilisation capable of surviving on a planet that warm.

By 2030, the global annual cost of global warming will be $3trillion.

2030, the number of extremely hot days — classified as maximum temperatures of more than 35C — are tipped to climb in all capital cities.

Oh.

And by 2030 NZ might be carbon neutral.

Yay!

It’s time to start fermenting the contempt required for enough voters to want to lash out at a political system too spineless and gutless to do what needs to be done in order to prepare NZ for the culture of adaptation we will need to survive the future our corporate overlords have locked us into and our Political Leaders have been too frightened to confront.

  1. “And by 2030 NZ might be carbon neutral.” By carbon trading again! 1 Billion Trees = Carbon Credits Traded.
Auckland Council has already sold the ‘Rights’ to all carbon ingested by trees, vegetation, fauna on every park & reserve owned by the council for 50 years to an Australian “Carbon Trading” company called GreenFleet.

  2. The trouble is, any politician or party that puts forward the necessary policies, to significantly reduce carbon and other GHG emissions, which will lead to many having to give up their cars, switch perhaps to more expensive electric cars, or even bicycles, will not ever get voted in.

The Greens tried for years, to boost their vote, achieved a bit over ten percent, and now are as tame and mellow, they sign up to almost any government, Nats or Labour.

People are so brainwashed and economically and socially locked into a system, where most is invested in technology and shares based on fossil fuel and extraction industry. Agriculture is not much better.

Fertile land is shrinking in area. Artificial fertiliser is usually made from and with the help of fossil fuels.

The list can go on, people are not willing to jump off the train heading towards the cliff.

  3. I ‘m not a scientist … as the saying goes …. BUT I think ‘earth’ is emitting more CO2/CH4 than man now, even if every Kiwi left the planet tonight New Zealand might go on emitting carbon for the next 100 years or so?
The government or any petty little human will not be able to change that.

  4. Excellent commentary, Martyn. Sadly, it will make not one iota of difference.

The NZ political system promotes and rewards spinelessness, dishonesty and denial of reality. Scientific illiteracy is a ‘necessary’ qualification for acquisition of power….. there is no money to be made from telling the truth’; there are no rorts to be worked by telling the truth..

The mainstream media -particularly so-called newspapers, television, commercial radio and ‘lifestyle’ magazines- are totally dependent on misrepresentation and denial of reality for survival (albeit short term survival, since energy decline and abrupt climate change will terminate the economic system in the not-too-distant future).

Expect ever greater weather extremes as we inexorably march towards extinction via CO2 emissions and their consequences, as required by the financial system and the corporations that run NZ and most of the rest of the world.

Also expect every city, district and regional council to waste yet more of our rapidly declining resources promoting that which is totally unsustainable, as council officers deny reality and facilitate career advancement via yet more ‘projects’.

Oh, and ‘build more roads and airports’.

  5. Carbon neutral? … isn’t all life on earth carbon based ???

Maybe we ARE part of the problem then…

According to the grey aliens, – they’re silicon based.

They just might be onto something there…

    🙂
