Another mass shooting in the US, President Trump goes before the cameras to support the right of ‘deranged individuals’ to have guns.

Without a hint of irony the US President went on to say:

“This is a mental health problem at the highest level”

  2. Why did Megan Woods drop her climate spokesperson role?

Who is the Labour Party’s spokesperson for climate change now?

Do they even have one anymore?

When virtually every other Portfolio has an Associate Minister as well as the Minister. Why is there no Associate Minister for Climate Change?

Has James Shaw and his Ministry for climate change outside of cabinet been ring fenced from the Labour Party?

Has the issue of Climate Change been placed in a silo?

Climate Change Minister Paula Bennett will travel to Nadi today to join leaders and ministers at ministerial talks ahead of the 23rd Conference of the Parties – COP23 – in Bonn, Germany in November.
Mrs Bennett will be accompanied by Dr Megan Woods, Labour’s Spokesperson for Climate Change Issues.
“The talks lay important groundwork for the COP through a frank exchange of views amongst leaders on key political questions,” Mrs Bennett said.
“The Nadi pre-COP is about building political consensus on how to operationalise the Paris Agreement and increase climate ambition. New Zealand is supporting Fiji’s Presidency of COP23 – it is a unique opportunity for the Pacific to demonstrate its contribution to tackling climate.”
Mrs Bennett will deliver New Zealand’s opening statement on Tuesday.

The strange thing about all this, is that before the Labour Government was announced, climate change was held by the Deputy Prime Minister. Now, it is not even a Cabinet Ministry, or even an Associate Cabinet Ministry.

There is not even an Associate Minister for climate change outside of cabinet.

That James Shaw has been made the Minister for climate change is fitting, but why has the portfolio itself been downgraded without even a support minister?

“Climate change is my generation’s nuclear-free moment”

    Jacinda Ardern

    Addendum:
In government I will make it as lowly ranked as possible, and only allow one Minister for it. And not allow any climate spokesperson for the Labour Party.

When it comes to climate change issues like deep sea oil drilling and coal mining, Labour and National are the same says David Parker

“I don’t think we are much different from National,” Parker said. “They’ve continued on with the programme that we started in respect to oil and gas,”
