Winston admits overpayment issue – shows how easy it is to get into debt

Turns out Metiria and Winston have much in common

There are rumours circulating online that there will be a large scandal about to be released on Monday …

…in light of that, Winston Peters has suddenly put out this press release…

… if this is Tim’s Mother of all Scandals’ it’s not much of a mother or a scandal.

All Winston’s admission proves is just how easy it is for beneficiaries, even well educated and powerful pensioners, to end up owing money to our neoliberal welfare agencies.

Imagine how many other far weaker and more vulnerable NZers they screw over?

My guess is that this story about Winston has been thrown out by National in desperation as the mother of all scandals is about to break.

In other news, a story I have been working on for 8 months is due to break tomorrow morning.

More details Monday.

  1. We allowed to guess ?
The Police have decided to uphold their oaths and have issued warrants for the arrest of John Key, David Carter, Bill English and most of the national party hierarchy for Conspiracy to Obstruct, Prevent, Pervert or Defeat Justice in the Barclay illegal recordings matter and for Paula Bennett on unrelated charges ?

  2. Not to minimise your research but my guess is that the GCSB were caught watching soft porn for days on end. When asked to keep an eye on Kim ,by the number one eye, they made a executive decision and chose Kim Kardashian rejecting Kim Dotcom and Kim Jong Un

  3. Oh , – hes such a good boy is our young Winnie.

Proud of him , and NZ politics will lose a legend when he retires , and as you say Martyn in another post ,… ” he will win Northland again , and again , and again , and probably again after he dies ”… so he better not start thinking of retiring just yet awhile.

As for breaking news,… look , in time there will be all sorts of evidence of scandalous goings on under Key then Dipper,… its a veritable smorgasbord of abuses and cover ups.

All will be revealed after Adern becomes our next Prime Minister.

So at least that will be a bulwark against further feelings of disgust we will experience after finding out the real truth.

  4. I’m no fan of Winston Peters and in terms of his coalition preferences I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him or the limo he travels in…

Having said that, if this is Tim Murphy’s idea of an “expose”, then he’s learned nothing from the farce that was the Donghua Liu Affair when he was editor of the NZ Herald.

No wonder the public rate journalists on an equal footing with politicians and prostitutes.

    This is unfair.

Prostitutes have done nothing to earn such low ranking.

    • may be a little presumptively harsh….theres nothing yet to say this non event (on the face of it) is the same “expose” as Tim Murphy’s

    • “Prostitutes have done nothing to earn such a low ranking “

Only as long as members of the National led government have not been using their services then fine.

    • I believe a couple of one man political parties fall under the “prostitute” mantra but as you rightly say Frank..

“Prostitutes have done nothing to earn such low ranking.”

  5. If he gave one weeks lead in instead of a weekend imagine the preemptive confessions that would emerge.

WPs announcement can’t be #themother’ because overpayments are fairly common.

Whomever you are breaking the story about tomorrow is in trouble..eight months of Bomber on a Monday. Fucking brutal.

  6. re “Turns out Metiria and Winston have much in common”

    …I don’t think so!

…Peters wasn’t deliberately fraudulent or misleading in order to acquire a benefit or mislead the public ( he applied in the company of his partner and was served by a senior official at the MSD…surely one should be able to trust them to know and give you the correct benefit)

…nor has Winston Peters NZF Party been split with good people thrown out

( actually the Greens and NZF have very little in common…this is why many will be voting NZF and not Green)

    • There is (despite inaccurate media weasel words)no dispute about Metiria’s eligibility for the DPB.
What is in question is the amount of accommodation supplement she received.
A piffling amount most probably, but for someone in need quite a lot.
Having just applied for the pension myself and experienced hoe rigorous the questions about one’s personal circumstances, I do wonder how this error occurred
However, I imagine he has an accountant who should have picked the error up
Poor Metiria, she didnt realise what a pack of soulless dog eat dog tax hating neolibs we’ve become

  7. So Winston applied for Superannuation on one day – and then one month later sent it back to MSD because it contained an overpayment?

Or did he send just the excess back one month later.

Or did he send the excess back a number of years later ? At whose prompting?

What are the facts of this ?

  8. STRANGE THAT THIS CAME OVER THE WEEKEND AFTER NATIONAL’S WEEKEND STINT, THIS MUST HAVE BEEN PRE-PLANNED AGAINST WINNIE TO TAKE THE HEAT OFF THE BARKCLAY AFFAIR.

FUNNY THEY DIDN’T DIG INTO ALL THE OTHER BEATS UP EARLIER INCLUDING DEAR EX-LEADER J KEY’S PANAMA DEBARKLE.

CHECK THE HISTORY ON BEAT-UPS FOLKS.

  9. Clearly Dirty Politics 2017… How did this get leaked to the media. Dodgy!!!

It’s not a real story anyway

  10. On 190k salary, he isn’t so much of an idiot that he’d rort the Super. He clearly doesn’t need it. The worst bit is that he bothered to get the super in the first place.

We already pay everything for him – he doesn’t need it, but he’s “entitled” so all is well. Hardly cleaner than double-dipton, really.

  11. The only way Winston would have been overpaid, would be if he gave WINZ wrong information.
The only way Bill English could game the accommodation system would be if he gave misleading information.
It is equally certain that Paula Bennett did some questionable things while on a benefit. (You can’t avoid it).
So we expect the media to be going through their trash looking for incriminating evidence.

    • re “The only way Winston would have been overpaid, would be if he gave WINZ wrong information.”…but Winston says he didn’t give them wrong information

…he went along with his partner and was interviewed by a senior official…he never claimed a benefit for a single person

  12. “In other news, a story I have been working on for 8 months is due to break tomorrow morning.

    More details Monday.”

Martyn you are so awesome I am so happy and full of hope since I joined this blog site in may 2014.

  13. This one, re Winston Peters superannuation over payment was exposed by TV3’s Newhub, not Newsroom.

So what is Tim Murphy and Newsroom’s big #motherofallscandals? As far as I know, nothing too scandalous has come out yet via Newsroom! Will go and check again.

Re Peters … when is he going to release details of the 450 Bingles/Dickson texts he insists he has knowledge of? Or with the superannuation issue hanging over his head, will he keep quiet about them now?

    Intriguing!

  14. Can someone please explain to me ‘neoliberal welfare’ as from my limited knowledge these appear mutually exclusive terms.

      • Mate. You’d learn more about the New Zealand economy studying earthquake than anything that charlatan educator could push.

      • @ Red Buzzard … considering all the useless and irrelevant honours he’s receiving, they will probably canonise Key next!

Saint Dr Sir Jonkey, patron saint of the corrupt and swindlers, has a certain ring to it!

        • Yeah , … Key should be ‘ canonised’ … up against a wall at the crack of dawn with a ball of his own shit.

After he has his knights sash stripped from him and used as a public toilet curtain.

          ‘Sir ‘ my bloody arse.

          ‘ Sir ‘ Arsewipe , more like.

    • Neoliberal welfare or zombie economics = expensive affordable paper work, is an information advantage vs you guys and/or hegemonic structures best described as five imperatives –

      1. treating information as an asset
      2. Centralised governant (small government)
      3. Building an information culture (targeted policy)
      4. Building the right infomation platform (payment system)
      5. Designing and delivering an integrated national administration infrastructure (wrap around service)

The first imperative dissolves into the hands of people who check to see if every one is using rooms in houses that make up an economic order struggling to fit in with ordinary New Zealand citizens. Now people can go down the list of MSD failure for the past 100/160 odd years.

Second is a police state that understands the first imperative in order to rattle off lines on paper when issuing citations for not using square boxes as designed by the masters of the economic paradigm. If any where to have a hart then the first imperative fails.

On Top of the police state is the managerial class who as far as I can tell don’t do much more than make sure every one gets payed correctly or come up with inventive ways to pay workers correctly. And that’s the casualization of the work under ERA (employment relations act) provisions, such as how guaranteed hours are structured, the number of hours to be covered by the availability provision and how employees will be compensated capping the number of available work hours. A recent test of these provisions state as much, link: https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2017/08/10/judgement-released-in-court-case-against-mcdonalds-unite/

Forth is what we use to call the fourth estate now downgraded to commercial media amongst the managerial class and I hope I don’t need to go down the list of general casualization and restructuring of NZHerald and the rest.

The fifth imperative requires a political class that pushes contractual obligations down on the New Zealand public known only as The Deep State. Currently headed by Bill English.

But at the top of the neoliberal pyramid are derivatives traders in large financial houses there fore they reinvest a portion of the profits and out weigh the scales of justice in there favour. Enabling as Iain Parker (type his name into the Facebook search engine and he’ll pop up for more clarity) calls it the Pyramid Ponzi Scheme.

So consider New Zealand citizens/residents around the value of the Neoliberal-Pyramid Ponzi Scheme.

  15. Given Winston went to MSD with his partner to sign on for Super then it’s most likely MSD’s cock-up.
