“Today I went to Greenmeadows primary school and went along with a support teacher to see what they do and need.

What a whirlwind it was. First of all there was conjunction words with basic sentences (one of them used me in a sentence) and then we had a robot with which we had to decide what it would do for us. My contribution was dishes.

Next was persuasive writing – effectively training the next generation to hold this in power to account, but for today it was why we should or shouldn’t be allowed pets at school. Very imaginative answers, including letting the dog round up the balls from the field so the teachers wouldn’t have to.

Last was procedural writing. This was about creating a soup by listing ingredients and then the methods. That’s where it got whacky – everything from grated toenails and chopped up slugs to litres of rainbows for a soup to “make you have a good day.”

All in all, a great day. And a valuable lesson for a fundamental belief. We can’t place austerity measures on those helping the next generation, especially those who need it the most. Let’s make sure the next government is a responsible one who makes sure that schools have what they need forevermore to thrive.”
