Jack Tame is one of NZs best and most underrated journalists and interviewers, watch him destroy Bill English’s bullshit reasoning over Bootcamps.

Tame points out all the evidence that proves these Bootcamps don’t work and that sending young people off to prison actually contravenes our International obligations.

Tame is wasted on Breakfast – if there is a change of Government TVNZ traditionally realigns their broadcasters on their current affairs shows, if there is a change of Government in September, Hosking must be replaced by Tame at 7.

  4. I may have missed something at the beginning but at about 20 seconds English explains, “This is not about very serious offenders, its about kids who have gone a bit wayward and they want to put it back on the track”.

    Then at around 50 seconds English talks how the boot camp will be for the most serious offenders, Murderers, Rapists, Aggravated Robbers, the most Serious offenders. Seriously? Send rapists and murderers and lesser violent thugs into the Army? What the fuck kind of law and order policy is that??

    So having said all that, what is it for Bill? Seems to me you don’t know because you cannot know because you literally just made this shit up didn’t you?

    And how do the poor staff within the Army think of your new policy?

    This “policy” that looks like it was hurriedly made up over far too many gins late on Friday night with the deeply cynical strategy maestro Stephen Joyce, whilst pondering the latest polls and it screams of desperation.

    And I want to add youth crime is epidemic in some area’s and is not down at all. What a lie to say it is.

    9 years of neglect for the lower end of society to pay for tax cuts, 9 years of austerity for public services ironically including law and order departments, Justice and Police and indirectly CYFS or whatever Tolley now calls them and 9 years of pandering to your rich mates and your core voters have resulted in a shit load of disaffected youth who are now genuinely causing bad problems.

    National, you arrogant fucks thought you could pay attention only to your people and to hell with everyone else? Well guess what, your people and plenty of innocents that are not your people are getting hurt.

    This astounding pile of steaming shit masquerading as policy defies belief, but one thing I have taken from this interview is when English bullshits, it’s somehow even worse than when Key did it.

  8. I can’t see how any 14 year old can be sent to an adult prison. Is this allowable. Frankly I see the army as a bully camp anyway – having orders barked to you really any good.

    • The army doesn’t want them ,it’s not as simple as English thinks sending the affenders to a military facility to sort out long standing criminal antisocial behaviour.
      New Zealand is all about punishment, if the time and resources were available at a way earlier stage maybe individuals outcomes may be a lot more positive.

    Cold showers, nine mile hikes and sleeping on the floor in the special barracks at club Waiouru in the middle of winter should help them confront their crimes.

Tame is the only reason I watch “Breakfast” (Hillary is just useless, she was good at reading the news and imo should have stuck to that; seriously she gives Duncan a run for his money in the anti-intellectualism department – a remarkable achievement). The bar for morning TV is VERY low given the sole competition of “The AM Show”, where you can, in real time, actually feel yourself getting dumber.
