Tour-Makers presents
That Bloody Woman
By Luke Di Somma & Gregory Cooper
Directed by Kip Chapman
Starring Westside’s Esther Stephens as Kate Sheppard

Kate’s back! 2016’s smash hit musical That Bloody Woman returns to stages from 29 August to 20 October, bringing this national treasure back to life in a nationwide campaign to rock the vote for this election.

Our favourite daughter, suffragist, activist and cyclist Kate Sheppard is transformed from the face on the $10 note into a feminist firebrand raising hell and rocking out. After sell-out seasons in Auckland and Christchurch, Kate takes the show on the road with Tour-Makers in 2017.

Big skirts! Live music! Ladies on bicycles! This emotional and catchy theatrical spectacular couldn’t be touring at a better time. With incredible musical numbers, tongue-in-cheek asides and a Prime Minister who raps, That Bloody Woman showcases our ceiling-shattering history and asks us to consider whether we have come as far as we would like…

This musical by Christchurch-born writers Luke Di Somma and Gregory Cooper premièred at the 2015 Christchurch Arts Festival with a completely sold-out season for its fiery, fresh and funny take on Sheppard’s fight to give women the vote. Westside’s Esther Stephens stars as Kate Sheppard, That Bloody Woman herself, in this smash hit.

That Bloody Woman presents New Zealand’s greatest heroine like you’ve never seen her before; loud, proud and in your face. Leading the charge to win women the vote, Kate takes on the patriarchy, public opinion and even Prime Minister Richard ‘King Dick’ Seddon.
Auckland Live invited That Bloody Woman to join 2017’s International Cabaret Season after the outstanding response to its debut, hailed by critics as; “a kick ass punk rock musical full of infectious tunes that is unafraid to have fun, but just as unafraid to bring intelligence and insight to this powerful and important moment in history” – The Press

The rebooted production similarly earned rave reviews in Auckland as “the show New Zealand didn’t know it needed” – Metro

What better time to remember New Zealand’s inspiring decision to become the first country in the world to give women the vote than right now, as we head into another election year? That Bloody Woman will be touring to major centres all over New Zealand, reflecting back on Kate’s monumental achievements and having a bloody good time along the way.
