A National Party supporter has contacted The Daily Blog and complained about our coverage of Bill English…

For God sake let it go. Yes some silly ( to young ) MP has made a big Cock Up and let his boss down. The PM and Nastional are doing a good job as anyone with any brains can see. This whole thing is being pushed by the media to try and show how good they are and by the other parties to cover up there total lack of ability.

The PM should not have to waste time on such an unimportant political game!

G Bennett

…well hold on there G Bennett.

Let’s go over your points.

1 –  some silly ( to young ) MP has made a big Cock Up and let his boss down.

Yes, but the PM originally claimed he didn’t know about any tape, then admitted he did know about the tape, then attempted to claim that the tape didn’t exist and then admitted he had been asked to listen to the tape he claimed didn’t exist. This is no longer just about Todd Barclay doing something silly and letting his boss down, this is about Bill English’s judgment and attempt to mislead the country. That matters G Bennett.

2 – The PM and Nastional are doing a good job as anyone with any brains can see.

Ummmm, the 550 000 NZers living in hardship, the 41 000 homeless, the 250 000 children in poverty,  entire generations locked out of home ownership, our fresh water, our groaning infrastructure, the 1600 dying from freezing houses each year and the 10 000 incarcerated might like to challenge you on your claim that ‘Nastional'(sic) are doing a good job.

3 – This whole thing is being pushed by the media to try and show how good they are and by the other parties to cover up there total lack of ability.

Ummmm, again, this has been a scoop via one news blog, I’m not sure they are trying to ‘show how good they are’ and the Opposition are challenging Bill English on his deception and leadership, that’s not covering up ‘there’ (sic) total lack of ability

4 – The PM should not have to waste time on such an unimportant political game!

Ummmmmm, the PM has lied, deceived and attempted to hide a huge payout to an MP who refused to work with the Police and it now turns out the secret recording relates to Todd Barclay and drugs.

That all kinda matters, but getting an insight from a National Party supporter helps remind us all how fucking cretinous and illiterate these people are.

  1. “…media to try and show how good they are”,
interesting that Bennett sees the media as doing something that he deems as ‘good’ for a change, as being somehow ‘bad’.

This is what some of us have come to.
‘We’ are now uncomfortable with actual investigative journalism.

  2. “Nastional”

    pronounced ‘nasty onal’

That seems appropriate, well coined G Bennett !

Let’s also not forget that spoilt child Barclay first tried to smear the staffer involved by claiming that her dismissal was down to complaints about her conduct. The complaints were fictional. That’s just as bad or worse than the eavesdropping.

    • @ Richard Christie … I think G(ordon) Bennett meant to say Nastyanal in describing his beloved party. Nastional was a mistake on his part!

  3. No, National voters are not all cretinous and illiterate. More stuck in the cognitive dissonance of refusing to acknowledge the damage their privileged position and allegiance to the party is doing while also refusing to acknowledge that they have this privilege. Add in ignorance, fear, arrogance and it is even less likely that most can ever confront the personal demons which prevent them from acknowledging their culpability in the damage they do to others.

    • Observant – I couldn’ have explained it the way you did but I understand completely what you are saying. I have colleagues who are far from cretinous and illiterate who are National voters and it never ceases to amaze me how they dodge having any sort of meaningful conversation over the corruption that is going on – a sort of vision of a small child clapping his hands over his ears because he doesn’t want to hear what you are saying. Just wanting to be left with their own illusions. It’s shameful – no other word for it and they have the privilege to be able to vote – frightens the hell out of me.

      • One told me that he had been shafted by the local MP in a business deal (including lying in mediation) but still voted for him.
        That’s what we’re dealing with.

    • Yes, especially Federated Farmers.
FF have given automatic support to National for so long they can’t even remember why.
If they used their heads instead of being yes men they could work out that National have used and screwed them for decades, and all they do in response is to keep voting for them.
      The Kiwi Way 2017.
      Don’t you love it?

  4. And so we keep hearing about how National are a safe pair of hands up to and including Susie Ferguson ending a wet bus ticket interrogation of English with “You have a reputation as a straight shooter, how do you feel about all this” followed by an open mike for 30 seconds to end the interview. It is amazing that this “Safe Hands” mantra persists with an administration pock-marked from start to date with scandal, corruption, arrogance and mismanagement.

A conniving and complacent media and a public with the attention span of a gnat conspire to perpetuate the myth.

The latest affront is to attempt to create a moral equivalence between the Barclay affair and the nothing-burger of “intern-gate”.

I sympathized with a hapless intern who expressed dismay at how the matter was handled by the New Zealand press, used as he perhaps was to a somewhat more liberal bias of American mainstream media.

I found myself laughing a hollow laugh and saying “welcome to New Zealand”.

Nine years of Nat scandals. Balance that against what? “Waimate-gate, Painter-gate and Credit-card-gate”.

    See? They’re just as bad!

  5. Martyn, I like your site, and am about to make a donation. Not big, because I am no longer working full-time, and if they cut super I won’t be able to snigger and say that I don’t care.
It bothers me a little that you attack this National supporter as being ‘illiterate’.
Several times in the past I have asked you to correct horrible spelling/grammar errors in your own posts. You have never bothered to do so or respond. You are articulate Martyn, but at times you are not always as literate as you are articulate. You are now using G Bennet’s illiteracy to attack him.
Bad spelling/grammar weaken his case, you are saying?
You sometimes weaken the effect of your own posts with poor literacy that will prompt right-wingers and maybe others to dismiss you in the same way. Get a secretary or someone to control your misuse of the apostrophe, at the very minimum.
Otherwise, criticise G Bennet for everything else except his literacy.

    • I tried to donate tonight, and using credit card seemed impossible. Details I had put in got deleted, and it kept asking me to use PayPal.
I gave up. Has your site been hacked again? (I can send a cheque if you give me a postal address.)

  6. “3 – This whole thing is being pushed by the media to try and show how good they are and by the other parties to cover up there total lack of ability.”

Bloody media, eh G Bennett?! We should’ve been lucky enough to live in Chile under General Pinochet, or my parent’s home-country during the Soviet Era. I tell you, G Bennett, there was none of this ‘free media lark’ there and then.

The media did what they were told by the Central Committee, or by the General’s henchmen.

Nothing but good news to read.

    You’d’ve loved it. 😉

  7. The letter from that person shows me a number of things.

    To ‘G Bennett’

Firstly, go you for having the guts to enter the Lions Den that is The Daily Blog.
All the more brave because, despite your unpolished grasp of the nuances of the way English is written, you’re having a go at expressing your opinion and that’s fantastic. Don’t stop.

Secondly, your opinions are shaped by the information you have at hand. Just like ours is over here on the human being side of the political wall that separates us. Unlike the followers of the Right Wing, we have a vast spread of information to search through. You have television and the print media.
. Both sides steadfastly believe we’re right of course. You believe what you’re told and you have an opinion based upon your rendering down of that information.

Let me just say, that if you, as the brave person you clearly are, maintain your belief in what the MSM tells you, that you believe the information you no doubt get from your colleagues and friends when you meet and if you shun opposing opinions, maintain a closed mind and refuse to see the facts and stats that @ Bomber points out above, then you’re mistaken in your convictions but that doesn’t make your opinions any less valid in their invention and expression… just wrong, I’m afraid.

Now that you’re here, come over and have a look around anytime you like. Bring your friends and family, allow an open mind to see what you can see.

You will experience shock and horror and contrition once you begin to understand the lies and logical fallacies you’ve been told. You will see just how manipulated you’ve been and how most of society are now being dreadfully poorly treated for the profits of a very select few.
Follow The Daily Blog for the months leading up to the election in September and THEN write to us and tell us that you were right and we were wrong.

  8. Gordon Bennett? A play on words too?
I see what ‘observant’ and others like Kate have said being true among Nats I know but noses getting harder to hold.
Beyond the arrogance, denials and over explaining or re-inforcing of the undeniable now, the even sillier endeavours to make recordings evaporate by adding layers and levels of even more ludicrous contradictions and statements.
PoliticalLiquefaction still seeping and Melanie Reid not nearly as easy to dismiss as Nicky or others..

  9. Dear G Bennett,
If you want an example of media push then try the pathetic attempt by your party and your media allies to besmirch Labour over the immigration scandal.
It is totally invisible (not pale) by comparison with the open corruption practised by the government you support and if that makes you uncomfortable then you have a choice – read your voting form properly instead of automatically ticking by the blue logo as you have probably been trained to do since birth.
You don’t have to be a National Party yes man, you have a mind, why don’t you use it to advantage.

  10. G(ordon) Bennett is typical of Natz supporters, when caught out in lies, deception and subterfuge! Always someone else’s fault when things go haywire for his beloved Nastyanal party!

Funny, in G(ordon) Bennett’s correspondence to TDB, he/she made no reference to previous corrupt rogue leader Key, who in typical cowardly fashion, walked, leaving someone else to take the flak for his sleaze and slime!

  11. “For God sake let it go. Yes some silly ( to young ) MP has made a big Cock Up and let his boss down. The PM and Nastional are doing a good job as anyone with any brains can see. This whole thing is being pushed by the media to try and show how good they are and by the other parties to cover up there total lack of ability.”

So this National Party supporter wants to see a potentially illegal act swept under the carpet??

I thought Nat voters were really gung ho on being tough on crime? So I gather they’re tough on crime, unless it’s one of their own??

    Words fail me.

  12. Well, G. Bennett, I can assure you that if you actually bother to look at the statistics (no, not just the value of your one or more properties), you will on;ly be able to come to the obvious conclusion that Mr. English and the Transnational Capital Party are laying the groundwork for civil war. Sell all your real estate, donate all your money to charity, go compete for a minimum wage (or less) job, and I you will see exactly what I am telling you is coming to No Zealand, or others will see that you are a traitor/goddamn idiot.

  13. G Bennett – can you remember what it was like when we had REAL journalist in New Zealand. If you can, then you will KNOW National would have been gone in their first term, if we still did. Simple as that. Control the media, control the power. Follow the money and bribes right back to National. SS Joyce.

  14. Try posting a negative review of Nashnull on any of their MPs FB pages or owned-media outlets, like the Herald, etc. and see how far you get, G. Bennett. NOWHERE. Any truthful revelations of the criminal and elitist foibles of your favoured party are meticulously removed and their authors banned, while government trolls are given free range on them.
Note how opposition pages are open to all, and used disgustingly by such trolls. This is censorship vs freedom.

  15. I wish you wouldn’t use the term ‘cretinous’. It’s like saying ‘spazz’ or ‘retard’, not up to your usual high standard of discourse.
