EnglishGate Update: National Party Goon threatens, intimidates and bullies staff member

One of the many wondrous insights we have been given into the National Party has been how National Party Goons moved into threaten staff who were complaining about Barclay illegally spying on them…

Taping scandal: National Party board member who advised Glenys Dickson to withdraw Todd Barclay complaint named

The National Party board member said to have talked to the woman allegedly bugged by MP Todd Barclay about withdrawing her complaint to the police was Glenda Hughes, the Herald has been told.

Newsroom reported that within weeks of laying a complaint with police about the alleged secret recording, Dickson spoke to a National Party board member.

She was quoted saying: “I was told if I didn’t withdraw the police complaint I could potentially take down the National Party, and there was an [implication] that if National didn’t have Barclay in Parliament they were one short to pass legislation.”

Dickson said the board member told her a high-profile court case would be hard on her and her family.

Newsroom reported: “The board member explained to me if I withdrew my complaint I would be considered a hostile witness and the police would have not had a case.”

Inquiries by the Herald have revealed Hughes was the board member Dickson referred to as making the call.

…so a National Party Goon, Glenda Hughes, a board member of National’s ruling council no less, contacts the staff member Barclay has been spying on and effectively bullies and intimidates the staff member into dropping the case.

How heavy and vicious is that?

The threatening nature of the intimidation is something that the National Party must now front up and explain, alongside Bill English’s own deceptions and lies.

This doesn’t end with Barclay standing down.

  1. They can’t outsource their bullying and intimidation anymore now that their dirty politics crew has been exposed.

The National partys underhanded dishonest and unethical behaviour, including trying to intimidate someone into silence, will be no surprise to many of National’s political opponents but it must be very upsetting for a loyal long serving member like Glenys Dickson when they realise the depth of the rot within the party. Good on her for standing up to them.

    • This is the irony. If National are prepared to do this to one of their own, what are they capable of doing to the rest of the population.

This is not an isolated case. Simon Bridges trying to influence an OIA so as not to allow information to be shared and how many times have we heard Key state”I can’t remember”

The most disturbing fact is that Glenda Hughes is an ex-police officer and that the Police dropped the case because of insufficient evidence. Barclay stated that he would comply with Police requests, yet then declined. I ask who advised Barclay to lie low? Was Hughes involved?

      • Indeed. Glenys Dickson was advised that if she dropped her complaint she would be considered a ‘hostile witness’ by the police and the case would no longer be pursued. Now that it has emerged that the person offering that advice was a former police officer herself, it casts the situation in a very different light.

Indeed, Hughes is a former police officer.

If the allegations are true, then Hughes could be charged with perverting the course of justice or obstruction.

What else can one call it where a witness is persuaded not to co-operate with a police investigation?

If Glenys Dickson signs a statement to this effect, a lorry-full of shit is about to be dropped onto a very large fan, from a very great height, aimed squarely at Bill English’s head.

At this moment, Andrew Little has the ‘best job’ (Leader of the Opposition) and Bill English the worst (Prime Minister and target for a lorry-full of shit).

Stay tuned to Radio NZ, folks. My guess is that there is more to come on this.

        • “If the allegations are true, then Hughes could be charged with perverting the course of justice or obstruction.”

Thank’s Frank. One can only hope.

As Winston stated, this illegal act is punishable by a 2 year imprisonment sentence, which is clearly why Barclay was protected left, right and center. All those that aided and abetted Barclay need to be held to account, rather than allowing people like Mike Hosking to say it was a nothing story. To Mike Hosking… you support illegal practices do you?

          • Mike Hosking saying it was a nothing story?
            Mike Hosking supporting illegal practices?

            Mike Hosking supports Mike Hosking.
Mike Hosking supports the National Party.
Mike Hosking supports the National Party Prime Minister.
Mike Hosking supports the power those things give him.

          • I think you’ll find that if this scandal had been a Labour Party affair, Hosking would have been screaming about how it was eating at the foundation’s of New Zealand’s democracy (which it is).

However, since it’s the Nats, Mike says it’s a “beltway issue” of little significance to anyone outside of parliament or the Clutha-Southland branch of the National Party.

Hosking may be a conceited fuckwit but he’s not stupid. He’s well aware that there’s almost certain to be dramatic drop in demand for his personal brand of journalistic dog-shit if NZ has a change of government. Therefore he’ll do all can to keep the current mob in power for another term.

  2. Turn the cleansing light of day on this shit heap and boom, watch the National Party cockroaches scatter.

We have been privileged to see the REAL National Party and it’s filthy little workers who live in the shadows hard at work.

Of all the MP’s who have gone over the course of the Key English government and there been plenty, how many if not all had their “retirement” date set for them? How many were threatened or paid off? Is this why there is such a masonic silence from this organization, why no one but no one speaks out after they are terminated?

You expect this from a gang, you don’t from a political party!

    • Its called the Jason Ede / Ian Fletcher syndrome. And it has many facets available in how it can be carried out.

Financial pay outs , threats , ‘ sacrificial lamb treatment ‘ and of course , good old smear and shame or the ‘ obscurity method ‘… a comfortable yet meaningless out of the way ‘ diplomatic appointment’ in the middle of nowhere …

Didn’t they use to do this in Moscow at some stage?….

  3. I wondered how long it would be before a “gate” came along.

I thought the Barclay Debacle would be more suitable.

  4. The National Party brownshirts are being mustered right now.
I think we can reasonably expect that this coming election campaign will make the previous three look incredibly tame as far as National Party dirty politics goes.

    • Unless English comes clean on this problem; Barclay resigns from Parliament now; and police investigate alleged National party interference, this is going to haunt the Nats for the next few months.

One thing politicians all know is how to count. The problem is that if English demands Barclay resign from Parliament immediatly, it leaves the Nats as a lame-duck government.

On top of which, if Glenda Hughes did try to persuade Glenys Dickson not to co-operate with the Police, that seems a prima facie case of obstruction. Not a good look for a supposedly “law and order” party. And if Glenda Hughes colluded with other National Party officials to initiate this obstruction, we have a case for conspiracy to commit a crime.

Whichever way you look at this mess, the Nats are looking at several possible criminal investigations.

It’s now almost exactly three months leading into the election (23 September) – is this what English wants hanging over his head?

      • Soo much good, hard work by Labour, and Greens and NZ First, but Labour FUCKS up huge, I am afraid, sorry Frank, this is a shocking disgrace:
        http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/political/333570/labour-party-officials-step-in-to-help-disgruntled-interns

FFS, I cannot believe the idiocy that continues in that party and in those ones responsible, for such a total fuck up!?

Any simpleton can organise things better than this, ffs, good riddance that Matt McCarten, he was already described by UNITE members as a bully years ago, he is gone.

Who can vote Labour with such poor publicity going on? I will protest vote NZ First, unless the also mainstream middle ground pleasing Greens get real and come to the party, I am so sick of NZ politics.

        • For an alternative point of view…

“An American student taking part in a “fellowship” programme for the Labour Party campaign has defended it, saying most of the 85 interns on it are happy.

The student spoke on the condition of anonymity because most in the programme had signed non-disclosure agreements before starting on the programme.

She believed the complaints and leaks to the media were driven by one or two interns who had a beef with the programme. She claimed one was dropped from a leadership position on the programme after allegedly taking bottles of wine from Labour MP Jenny Salesa’s house after Salesa hosted a meal for them.

“We sat down, we ate and he walked away with two bottles of wine. The organisers called him out for it. Since then it’s been a simmering pot.”

So complaints to the media that were “leaked” from some volunteer intern who was caught “stealing” is not enough to convince you it was a smear. Fuck me, this smells of Whail Oil all over it. I will make my own judgement on this. Let’s just say, what your saying is true, they were volunteers, not “sweatshop labour” and at worse Labour are hypocrites. And lets be clear, the man you dislike so much Andrew Little has taken ownership of this issue straight away, which is the true mark of the man. It would’ve been very convenient for Little to just say “I can’t recall”.
Back to the real issue of corruption, yes corruption, by the PM and National and ex Police Officer Glenda Hughes. We should never ever accept corruption by Government officials. The latest is that English says nobody new that taping was illegal. Well I’m damned sure an ex Police Officer would. No fucking wonder Hughes is unavailable for comment.

        • A couple of double up links there. But I noticed not one, not one followed up on the Herald story of this…

          Rather convenient don’t you think?

          • Thanks for that, should John Campbell, the hero of some in the MSM, then not also have set the record straight?

I heard nothing about this on Checkpoint tonight.

  5. All good but, after todays scandal about Labour volunteers being attracted from overseas, raising questions about whether they get enough advocates here for the election, I also ask, who is paying donations to Labour, not only the damned Nats get money from business, as Mike Williams boasted on Nine to Noon, how much Labour would have got from business recently:
    http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/201848016/political-commentators-matthew-hooton-and-mike-williams

I am totally disillusioned and will protest vote this election, I had enough, full enough, thank you.
