BREAKING: Todd Barclay steps down from Parliament at next election

The pressure has been mounting and National are now desperate to jettison this issue days before their conference and just before the election campaign.

Barclay will stand down at the next election.

…now he’s gone, what about Bill English? Surely as Prime Minister, Bill’s deception was actually worse than Barclay’s.

National have attempted to clean the decks the way they did when they executed Judith Collins at the height of the Dirty Politics revelations. The difference was that Key was handling that with total denial, English on the other hand has acknowledged he was deceptive and has looked weak while doing that. Key timed the culling of Collins perfectly, English has done it while he’s still attached to the lie.

If Barclay needs to step down, it makes English look even more guilty.

This stumble is becoming an avalanche.

  1. It’s kind of like being glad there’s one less fly circling the pile of shit from which it hatched.

  2. Well Barclay hasn’t gone has he? We the taxpayer will still have to pay his wages and whatever perks he’s receiving, for the next three months until the election.

Why the hell wasn’t he put on notice, effective immediately? His vote is needed to pass dodgy legislation in the meantime. If that is the case, as he is leaving Parliament in disgrace in three months time, then he should be exempt from voting!

I hope the focus falls strongly and harshly now on the squalid pair of cesspit dwellers Key and English and their deception and lies here. They have some questions to answer as well.

  3. Except, he’s not really “gone”. He’s hanging around till 27 September to bolster this shipwreck of a government.

Which is a scandal in itself. If he’s standing down at the election, why is his continuing presence in Parliament any more valid?

This hasn’t cauterised the wound; it’s a thin gauze pad, and the wound is still seeping… (Best metaphor I can come up with at short notice)

    • Yes, Frank.
I’ve been scratching my head about this “gone” factor.
He’s not gone at all, only not contesting the next election.
Stuffyou.co.nz seems to think this is a resignation.
But he will probably turn up to the next parliamentary sitting and vote alongside his colleagues, because if he doesn’t National might lose a few divisions.
The fact that English has not sacked him outright makes English look even weaker and more corrupt. If Barclay’s behaviour is bad enough to be de-selected (and he would have been if he hadn’t voluntarily stood down) then surely it is bad enough for him to go now.
      But no
As we have seen so many times, National will do anything corrupt, anything dirty to hang onto the shambolic power that it values above anything else.
      There it is folks!
Our biggest (supposedly) democratic political party.
They are nothing but a bad joke.

    • 100% Frank, he will need to carry a bale bucket for that sinking ship!!!

I wonder if they will have that ridiculous boat race where Opposition rowers were going both ways while Nactional were going in smooth flowing motion?

That advert would look stupid this time wouldn’t it for a shipwrecked nactional Government?

  4. Oh, I could not believe it, during question time or the debate afterwards in Parliament yesterday, where one government, or government friendly MP said, oh, he is only a “child”, he did not know what he was doing (when illegally taping conversations of his staff in his electorate office).

FFS, he is 27 years old, and ADULT with a fortunate young age, who is not stupid, he worked successfully in the tobacco industry, was and is a careerist, well enough educated, certainly will know the law, and he BROKE the law, as it seems.

So he will not stand again, how can that be interpreted? It is not a resignation, not a sacrifice, not an admission of guilt, while his apology in front of media two nights ago basically was that. He is again smart and using the time he has left, ample time, to send out his tentacles, to see what alternative career opportunities he may still have.

He will no doubt return to business, where Nats feel warm and at home, so to rip people off and make nice profits for themselves or those they “serve”, and he will move on, and climb his Nat mates favoured career on an alternative track.

Just another nasty piece of NACT work, I reckon.

  5. Todd Barclay should have been pushed to resign right now, not when the next election takes place.
