National are a dirty politics political party who will lie, manipulate and twist every possible rule to get the power they want.

Butter and Tobacco wouldn’t melt in his mouth

Former Tobacco lobbyist and current National Party MP, Todd Barclay has been caught out secretly recording a staff member.

Let’s hope the little slime ball gets some sort of comeuppance but it seems pretty unlikely.

Kiwi’s let National off the hook for some pretty deplorable behaviour and recording a staff member is low down on the list when you look at National’s most recent abuses of powers, as highlighted by the Dirty Politics allegations…

  • Rodney Hide getting threatened and blackmailed into standing down over lewd text messages.
  • Tobacco, big sugar and booze lobbyists  paying to print articles on Whaleoil and then comment with the most disgusting hateful language aimed at public health activists.
  • Public servants named and crucified for political gain.
  • The Saudi Sheep bribe
  • The constant manipulation of statistics to minimise negative social impacts of Government policy.
  • Jordan Williams smearing Labour Party sex lives on Wikipedia
  • John Key touching a young waitress 10 seperate times at her place of work.
  • Mass surveillance lies
  • Threatening of journalists and journalism.
  • Slater hacking into Labour Party computers with the help of Jason Ede and downloading their entire database including donors.
  • War Crime allegations by the SAS that John Key signed off on.
  • Slater and co plotting to attack the head of the SFO
  • And most damning of all, The PMs Office colluded with the Secret Intelligence Service to manufacture a smear to attack Phil Goff, Leader of the Opposition, months before the 2011 election using a far right hate speech merchant like Slater as the vehicle.

In comparison recording a staff member seems tame.

National are a dirty politics political party who will lie, manipulate and twist every possible rule to get the power they want.

I’m not sure what’s most disappointing, that National do these sorts of things or that New Zealander’s keep voting for them.

What’s worse, I hear on radio NZ this morning is that the pm’s office paid for part of the settlement. Taxpayers’ money used to bail out this creep. I wonder if a complaint will be laid with the auditor general?

  2. Mike the Lefty says:

The Media whose job is supposed to be to hold the government to account, are actually a rotten branch of the equally rotten tree.
Which means that instead of investigation, we get fluff, infotainment and diversions.

    • Kevin says:

Totally agree, the media have allowed this situation to develop and expand, the media are viewed as a watch dog,but they’ve cozyed up at the National party’s feet, belly full and couldn’t give a toss.

Martin, this is egg on the faces of all people involved.
It is clear a device was used to record private conversations.
      This is illegal.
      It is a crime.
To call it an employment matter is laughable.
For the current PM to know about this and collude with the past PM
to “pay for it to go away” confirms collusion and knowledge.
If this had been the Labour Party in Government…. imagine the police
action then!! Another Hager!! Everything grabbed and bagged, secret service, allegations in the press, and name calling by politicians.
This government has to go!! Roll on 23 September.

Of course Barclay has been accused of an alleged crime, but the contrast to what happened when John Key and John Banks were UNINTENTIONALLY being taped by a NZ Herald journalist could not be any starker.

This shows how biased the police are when it comes to such allegations and charges being laid.

I watched the Question Time in Parliament over the last three days, it was absolutely bizarre what kinds of excuses Bill English, his colleague Brownlee and other used to try and explain the incidences away.

Surely, it was a kind of employment dispute, but it included one of the parties having been alleged to have committed a crime. The latter is being swept under the carpet, it seems, even the useless MSM is guilty of double standards, yet again, if this was something to do with Labour, they would be all over it.

The above suggests to me that political corruption is systemic in our country and that they’ve been getting away with it for years. Sound like a Great New Zealand Institutionalised Lie to me.

    NZ =

    Small population
Vast resources efficiently manufactured, processed and shipped, particularly so when compared to population
A mere few thousand farmer people supplying world class export grade foods and clothing materials to a comparatively massive northern hemisphere population. I.e. They’re winter bound while we summer on

    NZ= Broke as.

Two fuckers have 30% of our cash wealth?
NZ has people sleeping in the streets?
Does that not make one go Hmmmmmm ???

Greasy little smirk-meisters like fuck-face above are nothing new, you’re right about that.

  5. Tiger Mountain says:

    “don’t you know who I am?…”
no–well, I am a born to rule, entitled, young Nat spiv, to whom the rules do not apply!

while perhaps minor in comparison, there are several significant features of this case; it is tory infighting gone public, the Nat fixers usually get errant MPs to go quietly, well compensated, slipping from public view, this turkey is still around

Barclay has lied, refused to talk to Police, Police have toadied up to the Nats by not pursuing the case properly and the snooped on women was paid off using “sirkey’s” slush fund–the point being there is no Hager involved to sidetrack, the facts are out there, and Mr Barclay should go and join other ex Nat MPs like Worth, Wong, and Gilmore, out of the NZ Parliament!

  6. Takere says:

…..And the Winner is? Winston Peters! “The woman at the centre of the Barclay storm was now working for NZ First in MP Ria Bond’s Invercargill office”. Haha!

  7. Pete says:

The Newsroom article says “English knew Dickson had been recorded by Barclay and spoke to her about it, despite telling media he had not been directly involved in any discussions.”

Sure the incident needs to be put into context of National Party abuses of power but tell part of it like it is: Bill English is just another blatant fucken liar.

  8. It might be small compared to other abuses, but I feel that the winds of change are finally blowing.

New Zealanders are simply getting sick and tired of this National Government and it is the job of websites like the The Daily Blog and The Standard to make sure as many people as possible know.

  9. bert says:

And now English has been caught with his pants down. Even the adoring Audrey Young is on the attack…

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11879518

And if it can’t get any worse, Groser is making a mockery of the GCSB…

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11879510

Add these to Simon Bridges refusal of an OIA paper and this Government will go down as the most corrupt in history. No wonder Key jumped. So whilst others think Labour offer no alternative, please tell me why, when we cannot compare National to Labour. We need to….

    KICK THIS CORRUPT GOVERNMENT OUT

  10. WILD KATIPO says:

Ugh …. such a repulsive list.

  11. mary_a says:

Earlier today English claimed memory loss over who told him about Barclay’s secret recording of a staff member! Yet another of many convenient blankety blank moments in the dark history of this government!

Now this afternoon all of a sudden, the PM remembers who told him … none other than than the pimply faced little Herbert himself Todd Barclay!!! For goodness sake!

It seems to me now, the cover up and lying over this one, is becoming more incriminating against the government, than the actual incident of the secret recording (an offence) of the staff member, which was bad enough!

Kick the dirty lying excrement out in September, because a re elected National government will see more corruption, deceit and crime against NZers!

    • bert says:

What about hidden trusts Mary? Just more lies by Key. Anyone with a sane mind would have to doubt ANYTHING that comes from National ministers and leaders mouths. I use hidden trusts as example because Key shut that down very quickly. Now we have Bridges shutting down OIA requests,Brownlee’s hidden Israeli messages and Englishes lies around the Pike River mine disaster. So is our economy really that strong or are the numbers just fudged by English?

      • mary_a says:

@ Bert … spot on there. The evidence is growing. We are governed by a bunch of thugs, crooks and scoundrels!

No fourth term for this Natz bunch! They must be stopped and quick.

        • Quicksilver says:

@Mary_A……in fact, the evidence is of tsunami proportions.
When the Nats decided to use American style dirty politics to usurp the previous Labour govt., they unwittingly set a barrel-scraping standard of behaviour that’s been plumbing new depths each successive year they’ve been in power.
A party rife with psychopaths, that employed the services of psychopathic attack bloggers, sheltered by a complicit 4th estate and dirty corporate backers.
How the heck has it managed to last this long???!!!!

  12. WILD KATIPO says:

And now we see this in today’s NZ Herald…

    ………………………………………….

The text that English sent on February 21 last year makes a statement of fact in response to a text from Davie who said Barclay had denied the taping allegations and asking English if it was true.

English: “He left a dictaphone running that picked up all conversations in the office. Just the office end of phone conversations. The settlement was larger than normal because of the privacy breach.”

Asked by Davie is that was the end of the matter, English texted: “Yes. He and Glenys bound by confidentially. Glenys settlement large to avoid potential legal action. Had to be part paid by prime minister’s budget. Everyone unhappy.”

      English… GUILTY
      Barclay… GUILTY

      English has no credibility.

  13. Quicksilver says:

The sheer volume of abuses of power and corruption are catching up with their Nazional it would seem.
There’s no room left under the rug to sweep it anymore, when even the myopic MSM start to notice it!!

“I’m not sure what’s most disappointing, that National do these sorts of things or that New Zealander’s keep voting for them.”

My sentiments as well E.P.- I just find it incredible that we have citizens continuing to vote in the corrupt disgusting lot that they are. Doesn’t it make you ashamed of your own fellow kiwis. It does me in a big way, beggars belief really.

  15. Priss says:

This ties in very well with Frank’s piece on Nicky wagner. The arrogance of those “born to rule”.

  16. simonm says:

And let’s not forget this is minor compared to Key’s transgressions in the Northland affair. Todd Barclay may be a nasty little creep, but no-one has accused him of the horrific crimes that allegedly occurred in Whangarei.

  17. mosa says:

CUFF EM AND STUFF EM !!!

  18. Kevin says:

Absolutely disgusting, this is how our government behaves, I’m so disappointed, just a bunch of untrustworthy, self severing assholes. The laws of the Land are not applicable to the National party.

  19. Sally's Husband says:

Todd Barclay, meet Aaron Gilmore. Aaron, this is Todd. You both seem to have a bit in common when it comes to arrogance, cover-ups, and lying.
