When Auckland Fringe 2017 hits, Jubilation Choir will be making a righteous noise with three Sunday gigs spreading the musical love.

On three successive Sundays, Jubilation will bring the power of their R & B and soul-infused gospel to Leigh’s Sawmill Café (February 26), Takapuna’ s PumpHouse Theatre (March 5) and TAPAC at Western Springs (March 12).

Featuring blues legend Rick Bryant (The Jive Bombers, Right Justice, The Windy City Strugglers), soul sister Jackie Clarke* (The Lady Killers) and musical theatre diva Jennifer Ward-Lealand** among the 33-strong supergroup, Jubilation is an acapella gospel choir with a rock and roll heart.

Best known for their backing vocals on Hollie Smith’s hit ‘Bathe In The River’, Jubilation have also sung at WOMAD and the Waiheke Internatioinal Jazz Festival 2016, and are currently featuring in the  ‘Volume’ exhibition at the Auckland Museum.

With a repertoire drawn from the cream of soul, blues, alt country and gospel, expect to hear the songs of Nina Simone, Tom Waits, Curtis Mayfield, Blind Willie Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Sam Cooke and Emmy Lou Harris as you’ve never heard them before, as Jubilation showcase righteous harmonies and a good groove.

This is gospel for pagans and true believers alike – don’t miss Jubilation at Auckland Fringe.
