At least Trump built the Autobahn – why meeting Unions and stopping TPPA doesn’t mean Donald’s not a fascist

The bewildering level of intellectual, cultural and philosophical dissonance that seems to be occurring within activists over Trump is as disconnected as the creepy Putin worship that infects so many.

Yes Trump has annoyed the Military Industrial Complex because they had backed Hillary believing she would give them their next big war.

Yes Trump has pulled out of the TPPA.

Yes Trump has met Unionists in a way the Democrats foolishly never did.

Yes Trump has frightened established Republicans.

But to take those facts and frame Donald Trump as some sort of flawed saviour is a fucking naive and dangerous argument that needs to be challenged and shot down immediately.

Trump has done all these things because he wants a second term and he is appealing directly to the angry white workers left behind by globalisation to stay with him for the next 4 years. He’ll pork barrel those states he needs to keep on side and allow the others to wither on the vine.

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

Don’t mistake strategic precision with ethics or morality or quality leadership.

All Trump is doing right now by meeting with Unions and killing the TPPA is highlighting how dangerous he really is.

Hitler did the exact same thing when he came to power. Build huge infrastructure projects that bribed the working classes to rally around him.

With the looming economic, political and climate shocks about to hit America, Trump will be perfectly placed to manipulate peoples fear and anger to Orwellian levels.

Look at the mutant cavalcade of vicious banker and elite arseholes he’s appointed to his inner circle. There’s no need to ‘drain the swamp’ when all the monsters are in his Cabinet.

Look at how Trump’s first couple of acts as President were to allow more Generals to join his Cabinet than any other in modern politics and look at how he immediately put the boot into Abortion rights.

Trump is not here to challenge the Military Industrial Complex or Globalisation, he is to manipulate them for his own ends.

    • agreed on the environment…BAD!….agreed on Israel vs Palestinians…not looking good!….agreed on anti abortion…BAD again!

despite getting hell from family and friends…I still prefer Trump to Russian warmongering , neocon , billion dollar charity fraudster Hillary… who not least of all was instrumental in the de-stabilising of the Middle East and the ousted /killing of Gaddafi and creating the European refugee crisis

      • Trump will be Israel’s best friend and Palestinians will suffer.

All because Trump supporters indulged their prejudices and voted for a bloated billionaire bigot!

        • It will be interesting to see whether Trump supports Israel FINANCIALLY …as much as the USA and the Democrats have done in the past.

This will be the acid test…as to whether he really wants to make USA great again…Can the USA AFFORD to continue propping up Israel? Can USA afford more wars in the Middle East? Trump voters would say “NO”!

‘How Much Money Does The US Give To Israel? John Kerry Cites American ‘Support’ In Speech On UN Resolution’

          http://www.ibtimes.com/how-much-money-does-us-give-israel-john-kerry-cites-american-support-speech-un-2466965

“Kerry defended American Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power’s refusal to vote on the resolution by pointing out that the U.S. “has done more to support Israel than any other country” and that President Barack Obama’s administration “has been Israel’s greatest friend and supporter.”

          In monetary terms, he’s correct.

Over the past four and a half decades, Israel has been the largest recipient of U.S. military aid—with several exceptions, in which it was toppled temporarily by Afghanistan—and has received an average of $2.6 billion annually, according to a Congressional Research Service document. In fiscal year 2016, Israel received $3.1 billion from Washington, as it had in the two prior fiscal years.

Toward the end of President George W. Bush’s tenure, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns announced that the U.S. would supply Israel, which has held a military occupation over Palestinian territories for nearly half a century, with $30 billion in military aid over 10 years. Burns called the package “an investment in peace” between Israel and the occupied Palestinians.

In September, Obama not only renewed but expanded this deal when he set in stone a $38 billion aid package, amounting to $3.8 billion per year over the next 10 years, to Israel…

‘Why Outsiders Need Insiders To Get Anything Done’

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-19/why-outsiders-need-insiders-get-anything-done

…”a reasonable question: if Trump is a political Outsider, then why has he stuffed his staff with Insiders–Goldman Sachs alumni, generals, etc.? The question follows an understandable logic: wouldn’t an Outsider appoint other outsiders? The doubt expressed also follows a reasonable logic: if Insiders are running the Trump administration, won’t it be just another case of “meet the new boss, same as the old boss”?

I think there is another dynamic in play here which I have laid out in this chart: Outsiders can be effective in meeting their policy goals (i.e. “success”), but they need Insiders who know how to get things done within a self-serving Establishment that is highly resistant to Outsiders and institutional reforms…

    • That brakes us down into letters and numbers but we must be more colourful than that. Don’t be afraid to back away from Trump if he does something stupid which he’s done plenty of in the last 48hrs.

But I still believe POTUS has to be pushed, much like the Black community failed to take there concerns to Obama and push him in other directions

  2. I’ve got a few progressive friends who follow the “Hilary was more evil and would have started a war with Russia” argument. To me it’s a case of, “Look at the guy and everything he has said and done so far and you don’t have a problem with any of that? What sort of a person does that say you are?”

It doesn’t matter how much I like the 10 or 12 people in New Zealand I personally know who support Trump – from Christians to conspiracy theorists – the fact that they support Trump has affected how I view them as people.

  3. Another Bomber Bradbury classic:
“There’s no need to ‘drain the swamp’ when all the monsters are in his Cabinet”.
On Monday, “Trump orders EPA Contract freeze and media blackout” (Associated Press) – The EPA is the USA’s Environmental Protection Agency. He promises to cut back environmental regulation.
On Tuesday “Trump signs executive orders advancing controversial Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipeline” (NBC).

    Good work Martyn. Thanks.

  4. Trump bashing?

Despite the protests and his draw backs Trump was voted in as President by the American working class and many middle class and liberals:

‘The Hypocrisy Of This Weekend’s Protests: Stunning, But Not Surprising’

    http://fmshooter.com/hypocrisy-weekends-protests-stunning-not-surprising/

…”Here’s another truth: the majority of Americans (in particular the rural, middle class that by and large came out for Trump) do not have the time or money to rent a comfy AirBnB in DC, buy (or have someone else buy) plane tickets, all for the purpose of prancing around DC huffing and pouting about losing an election, while waving hypocritical and aggrandizing signs in an effort to fish for Facebook likes.

…”So how is it that so many protesters were able to descend across so many cities across the US, in particular Washington DC? As sources ranging from The NY Daily News to Infowars pointed out, they were bussed and/or flown in. Would you really be surprised to find out that George Soros was picking up the tab, with three times the number of bus permits issued for the protest than Trump’s inauguration?…

    • L0L0L ! – Go CHOOKY !!! – Nail on the head stuff … made me chuckle..

      • Probably because Ms Lewinsky isn’t the President and despite what we might feel about the affair, what Clinton and Lewinsky did were consenting adults. I pass no moral judgement on them.

Trump’s behaviour toward women (bragging about “pussy-grabbing” and walking in on naked “Miss Universe” contestants in their changing rooms), is not consensual behaviour. It is symptomatic of a man who is exercising privilege of his patriarchal position of power.

Just as we vilified Key for pulling a waitress’s pony tail, because that was not consensual either.

        • Hang on a minute there, Frank …

          * Clinton did what he did WHILE he was President – then lied to the nation point blank that ” I did not have sexual relations with that woman ”….

Then was caught out having lied publicly about it.

          * Trump – WASN’T even President but was smeared DURING his campaign.

Like Cunliffe was here… I seem to remember you doing several long articles on that one , Frank… ones I quoted on in actual fact…

It was words, Frank … words… caught on a camera. Not actions of non consensual behavior. Words.

As for the ‘ walk in’ at the Miss Universe ?… who do we choose to believe? … the same crowd from the Dems who were ACTUALLY caught paying people down on their luck to take a punch at Trump rallies to make it look as if Trump supporters were thuggish trailer trash ?

I’m sure you remember the affiliated company’s paid to do so by the officials of the Dem party?

OK for the Dems but not the other lot , eh?….

    • “Despite the protests and his draw backs Trump was voted in as President by the American working class and many middle class and liberals”

Oh dear, more ‘alternative facts’ from another Trump supporter.

I suppose you think that the 3 million more voters who supported Clinton are part of some vast conspiracy by Illuminati Lizard Aliens living in Area 51, and listening to Elvis singing??

Come on Chooky, more people supported Clinton than that fascist, and it’s only because the US has the double-whammy screwed up electoral system of first past the post AND the Electoral College, that got Trump past the finish line.

Or am I making that up as well?

Hey, maybe I’m a Lizard alien from planet Illuminati??

      • re “Hey, maybe I’m a Lizard alien from planet Illuminati??”

…hey you said it!…and I wouldn’t be surprised…you are definitely different…if you think you are special and a lizard that is fine by me

the name of the game was to win States not the biggest popular vote…this required a certain strategy ….Trump said he could have won more votes and would have campaigned differently if that was what was required

        http://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/trump-electoral-college-win-tweets-232879

  5. Yeah, but you’ve been comparing Republican Presidents to Hitler for too long – it just doesn’t resonate with anyone anymore. The phone just starts ringing off the hook.

As i remember – GWB was Hitler right? Invaded Iraq, Patriot Act, Guantanamo Bay, domestic surveillance, Christian influence on policy making.

No, he was just a derper (like Trump). Except the difference is Trump doesn’t actually want to invade everyone and be a puppet of the established classes – he’s already got money and doesn’t need the validation of the elites.

  6. ” Look at how Trump’s first couple of acts as President were to allow more Generals to join his Cabinet than any other in modern politics ”

    * Nobel Peace Prize award winner Obama said in 2009 he wanted to help rid the world of nuclear warheads. No other President since the end of the Cold War has increased the level of nuclear warheads spending than Obama.

    * Obama has initiated a world wide terrorist campaign using Hellfire missiles delivered by drones – targeting weddings, funerals and poor community’s , – a peculiar juxtaposition of being one of the most violent Presidents while being also a holder of a Nobel ‘ PEACE’ Prize award …

    * All the while promoting American exceptionalism , freedom and democracy around the world. While bombing more Muslim country’s than any of his predecessors.

    * When Obama was President elect in 2008 , he authorized as the coming President , … Operation Cast Lead. The attack on Gaza. Resulting in the deaths of between 1,166 and 1,417 Palestinians.

And yet you , Martyn … along with other liberal leftist writers here and on The Standard , … accuse Trump of being a SEXIST , a RACIST , a XENOPHOBE … and now …. a FASCIST.

And Trump hasn’t even been in power for a month.

The worst thing that Trump has done as President elect was to accept a phone call from the Leader of Taiwan. A country that believes it is NOT part of mainland China’s satellites and wants its independence.

That and made overtures to Russia for a peaceful cooperation for the future.

    Yet according to you ,… and others like you in the liberal media , … he is nothing more than a SEXIST !!! , a RACIST !!! , a XENOPHOBE !!! , a FASCIST !!! .

Would you be more supportive of those like Obama and Clinton who supported ISIS with American armaments ?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9xbokQO4M0

And would you prefer the ongoing USA led NATO war games involving thousands of troops NATO that has right on the doorstep of Russia in a less than concealed military threat – in the very same starting point that Adolf Hitler used for Operation Barbarossa ?

Would you prefer the 500,000 children who died as a direct result of sanctions on Iraq that Madeleine Albright endorsed?

    * During her tenure, Albright considerably influenced American policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Middle East. According to Albright’s memoirs, she once argued with Colin Powell for the use of military force by asking, “What’s the point of you saving this superb military for, Colin, if we can’t use it?”

    Oh no , Martyn ,… but Trump is a SEXIST !!! , a RACIST !!! , a XENOPHOBE !!! , a FASCIST !!! ,… isn’t he…

We cant have him talking about forming better relations with Russia , cancelling rotten corporate agenda Free Trade deals and trying to prevent violent ILLEGAL immigrants from threatening people of his country or wanting to ensure American jobs are secure and large corporations stay within the USA and not exploit foreign third world labour ….

    Oh yes …. For that ? ….he’s nothing but a filthy …

    SEXIST !!! , a RACIST !!! , a XENOPHOBE !!! and a FASCIST !!!

And if you or anybody else wants to see where some of these facts come from – here is the link to an interview with John Pilger – someone who I hold in extreme high regard as being one wonderful individual free from guile and political intrigue , and sadly – unlike so many others who like to position themselves among the ‘ caring Left ‘.

    • Echo’s my feelings pretty much. TDB bloggers here seem FAR too quick to judge a man who has been in power for under a week. Trump is the first president in a long time who is putting USA first and foremost in his decision making, an attitude that should be self-explanatory and appropriate given the nationality of those who are eligible to vote for said president (i.e. it ain’t us).

      • “TDB bloggers here seem FAR too quick to judge a man who has been in power for under a week.”

No, Nitrium, we judge him on what he has said, promised, and done thus far. And it doesn’t look good!

But if you’re a privileged white male, and not a woman, latino, muslim, etc, I guess you’re fine with it?

First they came for the communists…..

    • Exactly. The moral outrage at Trump from all quarters seems blind to the horrors of before. The talking Hollywood heads especially.

Obama was at best weak and at worst complicit in a great many evils. I couldn’t believe he could have been worse than Bush II but he was. No doubt Trump will rain down evil also – but all this hysteria misses the point that it’s the system that’s broken.

  7. I think Trump’s great. He is going to take the rubbish bin which is Washington DC turn it upside down for the world to see the contents … we are all going to be motivated into waking up and realizing that we have our own governmental cesspit which needs draining and changing … and then the axe will fall ever so gently on Trump leaving him no option but to resign from office on the grounds of undisclosed ill health. And then will come new elections. Probably around the time of our own. But who do we choose from our long list of professional political never-get-anything-done-of value-to-the-man-on-the-street candidates.

  8. One thing I agree on is I don’t think Trump is a warmonger like Hillary and the inner cabal of the DNC, however he could be unpredictable.

The environment is going to take a hiding and I doubt whether the average worker will see many benefits despite voting him into office.

    • Jack, “One thing I agree on is I don’t think Trump is a warmonger like Hillary”. Any chance you can defend Trump’s behaviour without pointing a finger at someone else? Huh?

      • The Volkswagen would possibly have been built anyway, had the Social Democrats regained power or even the Communists have had a say in the final days of the Waimar Republic. The private operators worked on plans, the government could have taken this up or not, it was not all the magic work of Mr Hitler, this People’s Car stuff.
