It is welcome news that the terrible abuse of heroic whistleblower Chelsea Manning is coming to an end.

She never deserved the terribly unfair sentence and grotesque over reaction to her releasing information that detailed war crimes and abuses of military power.

So while we are thankful, we also need to keep the pressure up on Obama to do the right thing and also pardon Edward Snowden…

  1. Good move by President Obama in releasing Chelsea Manning from prison. She should never have been incarcerated in the first place for speaking out.

    Agree re Edward Snowden.

  2. Well, Obama still has two or three days, to do the honourable thing, I suppose, maybe he will leave this act of mercy towards Snowden for his last day?

    There will be no hope for Snowden once Trump is in charge, I suppose, but who knows, what will Putin do, he has the last say in this, surely.

  3. Putin is the last person to extradite Snowden and frankly I can’t think of a single leader whom I and 85% of Russians respect more.

  4. Julian Assange said he would agree to extradition if Chelsea Manning was granted clemency.

    Apparently commutation of her sentence, which happened today is under U.S. law, clemency.

  5. I am however, losing hope that Guantanamo Bay will shut.

    President Obama promised this would happen in the first 100 days. So whilst Amnesty International members are pleased for Manning, we are going to be very disappointed in the next 72 hours by my guess on the case of Gitmo.

    • ulterior motive is why didn’t Obama pardon Chelsea Manning 2 yrs ago? This is purely a political play. Chelsea Manning gets released because of Hillary’s crimes

    • Trump may not even last his first term, I reckon. He is a huge liability, running affairs via Twitter shows how immature and unprofessional the man is, he may be a good business opportunist, exploiting tax loopholes, but he is not material for running anything else than dodgy businesses. Sorry, I forgot that “talent show” he had hosted, another bizarre operation, where some claim they were being harassed by him.
