In a shock announcement, John Key, Prime Minister of NZ has announced his resignation.

The reason Key says he’s standing down is because he couldn’t lie to NZ about staying for a 4th term? This is the same PM who lied to our face over mass surveillance!

The shockwaves of this will be huge, suddenly the Opposition are in a position to capitalise.

The Daily Blog understands that there is a damning book coming out that will focus on John Key and this is the reason why he is standing down.

More information as it comes to hand.

  1. The serious questions need to be asked.

Will Bill change his abode? Will he find a way to weasel money out of us to pay a mortgage on a place he vacates?

  2. He is the king rat leaping from the sinking ship as he knows that the false “rock star” economy built on unsustainable levels of immigration is about to start tanking, hard…

    • Yeah, this was my first thought. A book? Wamp-wah, it’d take nothing short of video footage showing JK sharing a slice of Podesta Brothers ‘Pizza’ with George Soros on a satanic altar to do even 10% polling damage.

    • Nitrium you are to kind to that ragbag for all the death and misery he has exacted on us all 90% AS “THE SMILLING ASSASIN”.

OVER 500 LIES ON THE LIST DURING HIS TIME HE SHOULD BE LOCKED UP FOR CRIMES AGAINST THE STATE.

  3. Conspiracy theories aside, maybe he just didn’t have the energy to lead the govt through another disaster recovery. With the nats having mismanaged both the Pike River tragedy and the Christchurch earthquakes, he possibly didn’t have much appetite for another round. Whatever the reason, it is good news for the opposition parties. Whatever you think of him, he was supremely skilled at selling turd sandwiches, repeatedly, to the nation.

    • Half of the “nation”, including half of his support base comprising of self-interested migrant colonists with second language level English. So, Selling BS to 25% of the nation (property investors). A traitor who will one day be held to acount

    • But if this was the case then they would have at least managed it better. The chaos of it is very uncharacteristic from the party that prides itself as a steady hand.

    • And don’t forget when the Rena ran aground. Steven Joyce didn’t bother to turn up in the BOP region until three days later.

  4. Is it family reasons Key has resigned? He has lied so much in the past, it’s hard to believe anything he says now.

Bronagh did choose to stay in Auckland, when she could have stayed in Wellington with her husband. And for him to use the excuse of public intrusion into Steffie and Max’s live is laughable. Key himself used his own children to publicize himself, when he thought it was necessary. Well he made sure msm did. Besides that, both offspring are adults and like their father, put themselves quite willingly into the public arena to promote themselves!

Winston Peters has said on the Stuff site regarding Key’s resignation, that it’s more to do with economic reasons than family “… Key and English unable to muddy the waters any more …” Peters is quite scathing.

The abruptness of the resignation indicates that perhaps all isn’t as it should be.

    • Mary_A: “Is it family reasons Key has resigned? He has lied so much in the past, it’s hard to believe anything he says now.”

My thought as well. It is very difficult to believe that his reasons for going are just as he says. It seems very late in the electoral cycle for him to be voluntarily decamping like this. Resigning for family reasons is the classic euphemism for: I’ve got the push, or I’m going one jump ahead of the push, is it not?

    • His children are mindwashed puppets that service International hoi polloi in ways most people do not want to imagine. There is a very sinister energy which emanates from this family.

  5. WOW, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has Key heard the signal the voters of Mt Roskill sent him and his party? Has he health issues, or something to hide, that is about to come out?

When I first read this at lunchtime, I thought Martyn is having us on.

Then I heard the news on RNZ this afternoon, and my day did instantly feel a lot better since then.

National without Key will substantially increase the opposition’s chances to win next year, they only need to present convincing policies and stay on focus, that is particularly the Greens and Labour.

What a shock announcement, this is really HUGE NEWS!

I am sure many property developers, speculators and the business elite will now start to worry, their looting of the nation may come to an end. Key was their darling, able to attract more than the ordinary hard core Nat voter, even some urban liberal minded people.

There is no leader in waiting who can appeal like Key, and the Nats must be very worried now, internally, as fractions may be at loggerheads about who should be new leader.

English has been there and gone, Collins will only attract the hard-hearted, conservative and bullish lot, Bennett will turn National into a laughing stock, and Joyce will be an ugly face of the party, offering next to nothing in charisma.

Maybe there are others, but they will not be that experienced and skilled, and certainly not appeal to many.

Suddenly 2017 looks promising, I may be able to sleep a bit better now.

  6. “this is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make and I don’t know what I’ll do next”

But I have $60 million plus so I guess i”ll find something to do. Fuck the rest of you, I’m off.

  7. Wish we could celebrate but Bill English ( or ? ) will carry on the continued piss poor legacy. Hope this damning book comes out soon. Bet he will not return to Hawaii with all the radiation in the seas there that the HAARP generated Fukishima earthquake released.

Take your trillions and run far FAR away from any future alleged legal indictments that may be coming your way.
Liar Liar pants on fire and nose growing longer.
Family reasons ? – yeh right ! More lies.

  8. One also must recognise the class shown by Andrew Little in his response to Key’s resignation. A very humble response given the vitriol and dirty nature Key attacked Little over the past year. Little is a man of honour and has clearly shown himself to be a man of humility. By this, Key can take learnings from Little.

  9. Key has achieved all he dreamed of and it is time to go:
    photo-bomb the Queen;
    a role in Lord of the Rings (it was cut, but they can’t cut the memories);
    throw up beer in All Blacks changing rooms;
    meet some Hollywood B list stars;
    meet Helen Clark;
    meet Kim Hill.

No legacy? What’s all that then? Chopped English?

  10. The election of Donald TRUMP maybe the catalyst for John Key as he knows that when Tump takes office he is going to be exposed as being part of a world wide criminal organisation that have infiltrated all of our governments and have not been working in the best interests of us the people.I suspect that the death penalty for treason in nz was possibly abolished in 1989 to protect those who knowingly operate in criminal treasonous actions against the people of NZ.

    • John, Trump is the US equivalent of Key, a pathalogical liar and ponytail-puller (sorry, pussy grabber), who is himself a millionaire, and got elected by using clever marketing to get just enough of the working class to vote against their own interests, or not vote at all.

Trump expose Key? You must be taking the piss. The level of self-delusion required to believe that millionaire investors like Key and Trump are not part of exactly the same global corporatist system is truly astonishing. I bet they’re better golf buddies than Key and Obama.

BTW No, the death penalty wasn’t abolished to protest traitors like Key, it was abolished for the very good reason that it is immorral to kill another person, which is why murder is a crime. Treason is still a crime, punishable by life imprisonment. Although considering treason is the crime of opposing the state you live under, and it is the NZ state that has carried out all of the neo-liberal reforms since 1984, Key could probably make a classic “day is night” claim that we are the one’s guilty of treason, and get away with it.

      • Strypy, We have had 8yrs of Key,more than enough time to know his true colours. when Trumps been in office a few months i will be more than happy for you to send as much criticism my way should he fail to be true to his promises.

  11. I predicted this last year (check your records on this Martyn).

It proves that your man in Wellington, David, has its finger on the pulse of the NZ electorate. I am looking forward to more changes being implemented in education with the new PM and the new Minster of Education.

The NZEI and PPTA working together to scuttle a perfectly good Global Funding Formula, is one reason we lost the best Minister of Education in many years. What better time for unionism and militancy to be nipped in the bud after the next election (another prediction)?

I’ll be sorry to see John Key go, but look forward to working with Judith in the New Year.

    • Hmmm…

“I’m a troll, fol de roll,
      I’m a troll, foll de roll…”

Nice try Seymour, but no cigar…

    • You are a comedian, aren’t you? ..”nipped in the bud”?? PPTA and NZEI are the last of the old flowers with any petals left, you ignorant boy.

    • You say you have your finger on the pulse of the NZ electorate, yet you also say you look forward to working with Judith Collins… If your tongue goes any further back in your cheek, you might choke on it, buddy.

Oh, but I’m an old cynic, aren’t I? Of course you’ve got your finger on the pulse, if only to know what it’s like to have one. 0.5% isn’t exactly what I’d call in touch with NZ.

  12. Legacy of the Great Leader.

Did he deal with the gap between rich and poor?

Did he deal with the housing crisis?

Did he deal with the accepted burgeoning problem of superannuation?

Is he leaving the once acclaimed education system in greater shape?

Did he have the country focus for an extended time on having a new flag?

  13. A book?

    Not convinced he even reads.

More likely he needs time off to shed his skin, or Mephistopheles has foreclosed on the few remaining shreds of his soul.

  14. Did he run out of things to sell? Was the rebellion at the sealing up of Pike River prove too much? Was he called “home’ by his overseas masters?
Got it!!! He must of ran out of ponytails . . .

  15. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas 🙂

Timing suggests he feels he doesn’t have the Political capital to burn to survive the reason(s) for this announcement.

Wish Helen Kelly had lived to see this slimy piece of $h1t slither away into darkness from whence he came.

  16. Perhaps it is a good time to announce a 5% wealth generation tax which can be applied to corporate and personal wealth generation that can be used to repatriate the state owned assets that the Key Govt. has piliaged for their mates.

  17. i wonder if his precious max has something to do with this. the tales i’ve heard aren’t complimentary

  18. ”family reasons”. i wonder if his darling max has dropped him in it. wouldn’t surprise me given the stories i’ve heard

  19. Maybe Kim Hills story has some bearing on the subject of JKs departure.
So many people are sceptical of his stated reason for leaving.
Key dosnt have the backing of Clinton and Obama anymore, hes on his own .
Bad news if Judith Collins takes his place.

    • Elle…exactly…he doesnt have the backing of Clinton or Obama anymore …and TPPA is down the gurgler and so is corporate globalism

….like a good trader he knows when to get out

    • Combination of things, ELLE,…

But I would tend to disagree with one point,…

Judith Collins would be the perfect choice,… with her abrasive political style, divisiveness , past scores to settle among the GNATS … and of course… her own self smear job she did to herself with the Orivida scandal.

But it wont be Judith Collins,… it will be Bill English , who , as we all know, – has a pet name himself – the ‘ Double Dipper from Dipton ‘.

And along with taking the National party to one of its best defeats in decades, – was one of the most unpopular, socially un-gifted PM’s ever.

So un-gifted, in fact , … that he will be the centre lefts greatest gift from the National party. With his neo liberal mantra in tow, and his widely unpopular selling off of state owned assets, coupled with an absolute inability to sell those ideas to the general public,…

We will have a situation whereby Key himself in endorsing English over Collins will be setting the stage for further dissension throughout the National party ranks…

And thus the National party itself has therefore unwittingly become the latest victim of the ‘Smiling Assassin ‘ …

And so ,… in many , many ways…. poetic justice has now been served.

  20. Well with JK you can always guarantee there IS an alternative agenda hard at work but for now I just want to relish that delicious feeling of optimism that I haven’t felt in at least 16 years…

  21. I just cant believe that this PM is walking away from a almost near certain fourth term next year something that he has said he wanted and made sure the political climate ensured that he would achieve it.

Giving the reasons for this sudden departure as usual dont ring true and it seems to me reading the signs and his language that he was pushed.

This man has to many skeletons in the cupboard and has been responsible for some real shady deals and decisions.

PMs never go easily and i feel cheated that he was not defeated at an election by his long suffering countryman and woman or held to account for Dirty politics ,Pike River, sexual harassment, insider trading, anti democratic practices, deception and economic sabotage to name a few and i am convinced there is a lot more.

This whole exit has been stage managed for what ever reason why would you cut free your best asset for staying in government as he is always talked up as this great icon that mud never sticks to, he has had a dream run.

Now the next nightmare is who replaces him ?

  22. i think its the housing bubble is about to pop
creep wants out like any ceo that runs a company into the ground

  23. I was intending to be charitable until I heard on the RNZ news this evening what his greatest regrets were.
I thought (hoped) that he might say something like “the growth of child poverty, homelessness, or environmental degradation under my government”
But no, his chief regret was that the country didn’t vote for his f…..n flag in the flag referendum!
His f….n flag is more important than the welfare of the nation’s children and disadvantaged????
Can you belief the sheer arrogance and pretentiousness of the man?
I say, “thanks for nothing Mr Key, good riddance!”

    • re …”his chief regret was that the country didn’t vote for his f…..n flag in the flag referendum!
His f….n flag is more important than the welfare of the nation’s children and disadvantaged????”

…well i think this is a rare true statement from John key ….his real agenda was neoliberalism and globalisation and to bolster his ego…to crush the nation state ( New Zealand) and turn it into a corporation or a corporation play thing..and strip its assets

…the New Zealand flag change was a symbol of this

…and to change the New Zealand flag would have been a huge ego boost to John Key …almost as if he were bagging a country ( New Zealand)

…thank goodness New Zealanders did not buy into the flag change idea…

(unlike the stupid Greens and Labour Party…NZF and Winston Peters was the only political party to see through this jonkey’s vanity project and agenda )

    • Exactly Mike. Key resigned for him, no one else. Key’s legacy will be of the failed flag referendum. For most his legacy will be as you say

“the growth of child poverty, homelessness, or environmental degradation under my government,”
along with health denigration. Given how health services have been driven to the ground, one has to wonder how Coleman can even remotely consider putting his name forward as P.M.

As is Coleman’s normal response to anything serious in health, Coleman response was that he was “unavailable for comment at this time”

  24. There’s an old saying.
“Take care of the pennies, the pounds can take care of themselves. ”

Are NZ/Aotearoa’s most at risk ‘better off’ under a jonky?
No, would be the answer I’d a thought.

Are the most affluent of NZ/Aotearoa’s elite ‘better off’ under a jonky?
    Yes. Definitely.

He’s spent the pennies on the pounds.
    What a genius.
He’s trashed our economy for him and his mates and we gaze into writhing chicken guts to figure out his frankly average con.

  25. I can hear the knife drawer rattling from Glen Eden
oh what a fight it will be
judith is not going to give up without a fight
Andrew Little conducted himself so well, proud to be Labour

  26. Of the likely contenders for John Key’s job, the one who closest resembles Donald Trump, will be New Zealand’s next Prime Minister.

    Pugnacious

    Business Background

    Enmeshed in scandal

    Social media friends

    Establishment outsider

    Controversial figure

  27. Hekia Parata suddenly resigned a short while ago too. I’ve been looking at photos of them together and wondering???

  28. Hekia Parata suddenly resigned a short while ago too. I’ve been looking at photos of them together and wondering???

    • And Key tried to run interference on the real reason she resigned by making up the story of her old man having health issues. I wonder why?

  29. Can you imagine the conversations between Judith Collins and Cameron Slater right now? They’ll be like a couple of pigs in muck.

  30. One thing I have noticed since the resignation is the lack of troll activity on this blog.
They are obviously in collective shock at the moment but as they shake of the shock and disbelief they will be letting fly with all the bile and vitriole they can muster.
We have lot the best prime minister ever (according to the Natzi Herald) and it won’t be long before they vent their spite on the Labour Party accusing it of dirty personal politics and “hounding Key out of office:
    Just wait and see.
