Duncan Greive’s weird scorn of Viceland in the NZ Herald seems less Opinion piece and more Advertorial.

With the SpinOff’s commercial relationship with Sky’s competition, Greive’s attack on Viceland without actually reviewing what he was attacking seems as remarkable as his punch pulled cheerleading of Real Racist Housewives of Auckland.

Based on the amount of native advertising masquerading as content SpinOff runs alongside political advancement of elite blue-green narratives, perhaps the real name of the blog should be ‘SpinOn’.

  1. I do go to the Spin off most days just to see what they have up and I enjoy some of the pieces they have.

Still, cannot quite get my head around the point of this Herald article.

Vice is not perfect but they do try and cover issues that get little to no coverage e.g. The VICE Guide to Congo covers how the tech world’s need for Coltan has contributed to the conflicts in eastern Congo.

The way I see it we need more of these types of stories reaching out to all corners of the public conscious.

  2. The disclaimer on spinoff is a novel in itself.

It betrays so many fingers in so many pies that it is impossible to take Grieve’s word as his own.
