E tū is calling for an inquiry into the ultra-fast broadband network after more complaints of shoddy installation work.

In a case dubbed “fibre to the throne”, wiring for a UFB connection has been draped over a toilet, which technicians say is potentially dangerous.

E tū Industry Coordinator, Joe Gallagher says it’s the latest example of poor quality work which is threatening the integrity of the network.

“Chorus just says “no problems here”, and continues to minimise the shoddy workmanship, but the evidence of poor quality is mounting every day,” says Joe.

“An inquiry is needed to reveal the truth.”

He says many Chorus contractors know about the problems, but fear being black-listed if they speak out.

He says any inquiry would need to be able to reassure people that they could speak without fear or favour.

He says the future of the network, and the training and development of good quality jobs is at stake.

“We are an industry stakeholder. We are committed to ensuring there is a quality network, and we’ll continue to lobbey for training and skilled jobs, so we can build a top network for the benefit of the community.”

  1. This is another fuck up by Joyce again!
6 mths after taxpayers forked out $1.6b for the network build. Shareholders got a $700m payout! Then they ran-out of money for the build. Joyce gave them another $900m!

Working with a few of the Drilling & Installation companys who a majority of the employees were ex-teleco’s. Employed and were training 30 people. The main issue(s) was third party contracts with Chorus/Leightons subsidaries and late stage payments and sign-off was slow too delaying stage payments even more.
Another issue was that some competitors were getting site preferrence. Easy ground to drill and others were getting shit grounds to drill delaying progress to a snails pace at times which had a financial knock on affect.

It should never of been funded by the tax payers in the first place! Corporate welfare!
The ISP are the ones who’s infrastructure it is effectively! The get the infrastructure built for free. They get to invoice the users/taxpayers for the use of the network as an ISP!!

How many times do you want to take it up the ….??

Seriously. I have had enough of this BS. But kiwi’s need to fuck’n wake up!
