Parata and Key at odds over reasons for retirement

Education Minister Hekia Parata says the Prime Minister’s suggestion that her husband’s ill-health played a part in her shock decision to retire from politics is wrong.

Parata is married to Sir Wira Gardiner, former director of the Waitangi Tribunal, with whom she has two daughters of university age.

This morning, Key told More FM that Sir Wira’s ill-health may have played a role in Parata’s decision – contradicting Parata, who yesterday said she and her close family were in good health.

As was first pointed exclusively out by The Daily Blog, the reason why Hekia and Key are at odds over why she will resign is because Key publicly needs the reason to be her husbands health, and not the real reason.

National are eyeing up the possibility of a fourth term with real hunger. The privatisation agenda that has been implemented within social services will take on a whole new level if they get re-elected. They are eying up radical changes within education that were so extreme Hekia couldn’t contemplate trying to force them through. Watch for David Seymour to become the next Education Minister if National win in 2017.

  1. So Yankee Doodle Psycho Jonky-Stien’s trading on a sick man to secure his dominance. Yep. I can believe that.

Yankee Doodle Psycho Jonky-Stien makes Game of Thrones morphed into House of Cards look like bingo afternoon at the Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Knitters on kitten appreciation day.

I no longer feel like being bullied by Yankee Doodle Psycho Jonky-Stien. How about you guys ?

    • Scarlet. There it goes again. Three racial slurs in one post and you have no problem posting it.
What does a post like that add to the conversation?
Countryboy is being bullied by Jonky-stien? That’s rubbish, racial and you know it..
You should be ashamed of yourself for letting these lefty, racist sycophants get away with this stuff.

      • Patrick – where is your sense of humour ? Is your donky leader that precious when he is being exposed for the idiot liar that he is ?

  2. David Seymour can’t even organise education in his own electorate. He is a gutless poseur.

The perfect candidate to be National’s Minister of Education.

  3. Seems to me the wheels are beginning to fall of National’s bus! Good.

Something’s up for Parata and Key to make two conflicting statements about the reason for her resignation. One of them is telling porkies!

A case of watch this space perhaps, with more Nat MPs (cabinet ministers?) about to walk the walk?

  4. No, NO, NO Marty! I hope, hell how do I hope, you are wrong. Hekia was bad enough – Seymour would be a disaster!

Please tell us all you were merely making a sick joke!

  5. “Watch for David Seymour to become the next Education Minister if National win in 2017.”

Yes now Martyn Seymour is a real Nazi type alright, you know the “take no prisoners” type.

    • So is this blog. Big believers in censorship which sucks.

[Patrick, I have deleted several of your comments which I believe contribute nothing to the debate and constitute little more than trolling. The above comment is suggestive of a bloated sense of entitlement and it seems I need to remind you that posting on this Forum is a privilege, not an automatic right. When you start paying the Server bills, that will change and then you can post whatever rubbish you want. If you want your posts to be published, please stick to the the issues. – ScarletMod]

  6. We KNOW who the real liar is here. The same long nosed serial liar we have grown accustomed to. The same unethical jerk who has hundreds of proven lies under his belt.

This photo above shows a woman who is pissed and angry and shows disdain in her face and we likely know why. With a leader like hers, I would be a bit miffed too. Bet he makes her sign a waiver or promise to not tell any secrets – yeh – thats his style – slinky ; slimy ; shifty eyes ; two faced ; bankster criminal and professional puppet and lap dog for the US and the powers above most govts.
Donky donky want a bone ?

National is falling apart at the seams and their days are thankfully numbered.

      • The disappointment will be for the well being of our country continuing to go deeper into the dungy if he gets re-elected.
WE DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER – if only the sleepy hobbits wake up and become more educated about the facts and truths. Hekia is so far from a healthy education minister who has compassion and listens to kids; parents; teachers and principles. People are celebrating over her leaving.

The masses believe the lies and pro-privatization and pro-greed hype and are not aware of what a criminal we have as our PM. He and Hillary ( Bill and the Clinton Foundation ) need to be prosecuted as well as the Bushs and Tony Blair and the Obamas – etc. . . ETC . . . They are only good puppets and suck up lap dogs for the higher secret powers above them that control and dictate to most governments and most media.

  7. Don’t you think the issue of Miramar School and others around the country using seclusion rooms had more to do with her resignation? She’d known about it for two months and the Ministry did nothing. She was getting grilled in Parliament about it, including the fact the school had continually been detained in one:

“An apology has also been made to Education Minister Hekia Parata for the handling of the complaint and the delay in notifying her the investigation had been completed.

Parata announced yesterday that should would not be contesting the next election.”

If she hadn’t resigned there certainly would have been calls for her to do so.

    • I think I heard mention that she went to America to look at their education system while the pollies were on their break. Maybe she saw how the education policies that National want to bring in are really working in America and decided that she didn’t want a bar of it.

  8. Props to National’s timing in announcing Minister Parata’s stepping down. If the announcement came during next year’s election cycle it would have reflected on National much worse.

I don’t care to speculate on why she’s really stepping down, through the sooner the better. She certainly hasn’t had an easy time in the job, it’s more a portfolio suited to a visionary with a back up army of worker bees.

I liked her idea of encouraging online school. I personally think online schools are progressive and especially great for the-little-guy wanting to gain industry licences. I also liked her ability to speak Maori and ability to navigate Maori customs/culture.

I don’t see any suitable replacement for this portfolio being groomed, though it’s hard with the general election just over the horizon. This diffidently gives Labour an opportunity to hammer education policy, unfortunately for Labour they will fumble this opportunity due to their lack of technocracy.

  9. You think it’s more a portfolio suited to a visionary?

Which suggests she was absolutely the wrong person for the job.

If you mean the type of visionary to fit the Steven Joyce/Bill English/David Seymour expectation, there are plenty.
