After studying the recently released Cross-Party inquiry on Homelessness the Salvation Army is calling for the Government to engage in a collective response with other Parliamentary parties to ensure all New Zealanders are adequately housed.
As the unmet housing need has grown worse The Salvation Army Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit has been suggesting a cross-party approach to address homelessness is required. The present level of homelessness requires a collective and long-term response from all Parliamentary parties to establish a unified commitment ensuring all New Zealanders are adequately housed.
There is an “unprecedented opportunity for combined action” says Salvation Army Social Policy & Parliamentary Unit housing spokesperson Major Campbell Roberts. Presently the Government and other parties in Parliament seem agreed on the majority of the recommendations in the report. The Salvation Army urges all parties to therefore grasp this opportunity by making a substantial commitment to adequate housing.
While the policy approaches to addressing such a commitment will understandably change as different parties assume Government, there is an opportunity and need to agree on an overall objective of working to ensure every New Zealander is adequately housed
