CSAAWU is a South African union representing the majority of workers at Robertson Winery in the Western Cape in South Africa. Despite their majority representation management refuses to recognize CSAAWU and instead is trying to intimidate union representatives and CSAAWU members.

The union has made a number of legitimate proposals which include an end to harassment and intimidation of union representatives and members, recognition of CSAAWU, collective bargaining rights, the establishment of a joint union/management monitoring committee to ensure that ethical standards demanded by the Swedish retailer Systembolaget that purchases much of Robertson’s wine and the access the union needs to be able to meet exploited farm workers picking the grapes that supply Roberston Winery.

Conditions in many of the field supplying Robertson Winery’s grapes are as poor as they were under the apartheid regime. Robertson clearly has influence with its suppliers and CSAAWU is asking them to use that influence with farmers to allow the union to talk with farm workers.

You can help by writing to the company and telling them you expect better from an employer in today’s South Africa.

Support these workers by taking a few minutes to join our action.
