4000 sick NZers poisoned by contaminated water and it still isn’t a crisis?

Ummm, shouldn’t the Government be trying to solve this exploding situation now? How many NZers need to start getting sick before they might deem it a crisis? 10 000? 20 000?

How hard is every vested farming intensification interest working right now to ensure their industry doesn’t get blamed for this water poisoning?

We have more danger from cows shitting in our drinking water than bloody Isis. Using the Government’s own reasoning based on threats assessment, they should be spying on Farmers, not Muslims.

The media have shut up. The Council’s have clearly had the hard word of God come down on them to shut up and the silence is deafening.

How far are the National Party really prepared to go to let the free market work this water contamination out all on its own?

Meanwhile the All Blacks being spied on will ironically kill off any focus on the GCSB spying on all of us and a water crisis that matches our housing crisis. The entire economy is being held together by hope and snot right now, and the spin drs who are muzzling things now won’t be able to keep it up.

  1. Isn’t it interesting that DNA tests can’t identify the source? … or maybe that should read have identified the source but not for public disclosure. Next thing we know, people will look upwards and wonder … why is that contrail still lingering up there and spreading when the plane passed over 20 minutes ago? Hmm. Just a theory.

  2. The race down the ladder and rankings of “developed” nations has never been faster, I reckon, that is what is happening here in New Zealand.

This is a problem they have long come to terms with in much of Europe, after dairy intensification there, so they have rather strict laws and guidelines now.

I heard on RNZ last night, that the pollution, the bacteria that is, are now also detected in testing samples in Hastings and Napier, maybe the crisis has only just started in Havelock North.

So instead of shipping bottled water to China, we may have more demand for it here now. What strange developments.

Let us also wait and see how Auckland’s water will be like, once we have “grown” the population to two and a half million, as the Auckland Council, developers and Central government seem too keen on allowing to happen.

If there are any medals for short shortsightedness, the “leaders” we have will win more medals than all the athletes at the Olympics will have won combined.

I despair, I despair, please STOP this madness.

  3. Mike Joy has spoken out – where are the others. Mike has been rubbished by Key before but Mike is not phased by this as he is an objective scientist who has blown the whistle many times before on the damage being done to NZ by stupidity of reckless land use.

Animal contamination was a prime candidate from the start but apart from John Campbell pushing this question, the subject has been almost absent front the media.

This will no doubt lead up to a case for privatisation of water under this Govt. Any grounds including ones manufactured to cause the problem, will be used to suggest that public bodies cannot manage.

    • i agree..by their silence other scientists are gutless-bastards…

..joy is not the only one who knows how dire it is..

those scientists are in the main owned by/their silence bought by – their funders..

money talks – bullshit flows..(as it were..)

  4. Another day, another building catastrophe under the National Party’s guidance.

Don’t worry people, National are launching an enquiry. Thing is after 8 years of National Party “enquiries” we all know why they come about and how they end:

    1. It’s a “take this out of the headlines” distraction
    2. To make it look like they care
    3. To freeze any updates because there’s an enquiry
    4. To give National an advanced heads up to plan a response (lies)
    5. To manage the narrative with a Nat stooge heading the enquiry to minimise damage to the National Party
    6. They have more than an inkling as to why this is happening and know the government is in for a kicking should the truth ever escape.

    It will NOT be:

    1. For the good of the people
    2. To address the problem in a meaningful way
    3. Done with integrity or honesty
    4. To get to the real reason why the publics drinking water was poisoned or in the very least tell the public the real reason why!

Next to nothing will be achieved for New Zealanders but on this occasion, just like the growing roll call for the homeless Nationals usual bullshit will not be of any use.

This tired, clueless, corrupt government so badly needs to go.

  5. Don’t you think you’re being a little premature pulling out the ‘dirty dairying’ card before we even know the source of the contamination?

    • The dairy boom/bust has New Zealand overstocked by millions of cows ….. the intensification that went with this unnatural unhealthy and cruel industry made New Zealand an economic ‘rock star’ …… But chasing this ‘white gold’ or fools gold has over exploited, degraded and contaminated New Zealands fresh water resources.

4000 more people have just been poisoned and made sick from tax haven john and the Nats real toxic contamination of New Zealands rivers and drinking water than their bogus ‘toxic meth houses’ …..

paula Bennet and her version of housing corp are evicting families onto the street ………. and blowing over $22 million on scam testing and fraudulent decontamination of houses that are 4000 times safer than Hawkes Bay water …

John Keys nats are con artists and vandals

Their brighter future smells like shit and makes you sick .

  6. The question no one is asking:

WHERE IS THE ‘WATER SAFETY MANAGEMENT PLAN’ that was supposed to have been produced by the Hastings District Council and assessed by the Hawkes Bay DHB?

When all else fails – go back to the underpinning LAW and check if the statutory requirements have been complied with.

    The Health Act 1956 – sections 69A to 69Z

Why am I apparently the only person asking this question??

    Penny Bright
    2016 Auckland Mayoral candidate.

    • Good questions. My main concern is that the water has not been treated in any way. It must be great to be able to say that your public water supply is so pure that there is no need for treatment, but the risk the council were running by not treating the water was huge. Trouble is, a campylobacter test takes 48 hours for a result, that’s 2 days of waiting while while the public keep consuming the water.

I can’t believe that in this day and age we are prepared to take such a risk with our public water supplies

  7. Martyn,

It will only be a crisis when Key’s own water supply from his city water becomes poisoned and if he continues with his slash and burn and pushing the intensive farming and road freight transport policies it will happen for sure.

Intensive farming and road transport coupled with his killing off our rail will only increase the contaminants from road vehicle pollution runoff into our rivers and streams and enter our aquifers and into his water so he is doing it to himself and his family too.

HB has already followed NIWA and identified road runoff pollution of exhaust, fuel and 1,3 Butadiene tyre dust (cancer causing) now entering our streams, rivers ad lakes now.

  8. There are almost 43,000 homeless New Zealanders and according to Key & co that is not a crisis. There is a housing crisis especially in Auckland and Key & co claim that is not a crisis. And so that creates the question of why isn’t this government concerned about 43,000 homeless NZers? Is it because that is about many less people of voting age that can vote? Not too long ago almost 50,000 people marched in regards to their feelings about the TPPA. Key brushed off the protesters and called them the ‘rent-a-protestor’ mob.
And so here we see Key trying to show concern that 4000 NZers ended up with an infection due to contaminated water and yet he recently ignored the almost 50,000 NZers who are having a problem. I would say the guy is selective in who he deems aa potential voters. Perhaps there are more potential voters for John Key in the Havelock North area than his concern about NZers who are homeless. We must also remember that the homeless(those of no fixed abode)cannot vote and that is what Key is depending upon. Plus, and for all we know, most Havelock North residents are probably not on low incomes like those in say South Auckland.

  9. Don’t worry, the Olympics “purify” our hearts and sould and minds, and even the water we have, all is in “good hands”, our leader shines like bleach poured into brain-cells.

  10. Mike in Auckland 100% Priceless and sad as this is how most we it all as because the MM is carefully controlled by a hapless media with no moral compass to do their own investigative journalism and just spout the usual NatZ government line of, “nothing to see here, just move along”

sad that the loss of our “clean green” image is also fading in overseas press now but not even mentioned in the NZ press.??. Proves your point entirely we have a corrupt media.

  11. I often wonder as I drive through our dairy regions and spot those effluent sprayers spreading the cowshed wastes all over the pastures, WHERE DOES ALL THAT EFFLUENT MIXED WITH DETERGENTS ETC ACTUALLY END UP?

I wonder if it ends up in our underground water supplies?

I wonder if all those who purchase our ‘CLEAN GREEN” bottled water are aware of this madness?

  12. Shocking, just shows how far down hill NZ has come under the Natz disregard for the environment and their love of pollution. And how Fonterra have gone downhill under their present Dutch CEO who specialises in ‘mergers’ apparently in farms – clearly not keeping a close eye on the long term picture of Dairy – and how to modernise it and avoid contamination to both milk powder and the water supply. Oh well, sell it off cheap, bankrupt others both environmentally and personally, and personally profit for the .01% is the neoliberal way, for both the National government and their crony followers. Who cares about other people dying, someone else’s problem!

  13. John Campbell bless his heart was firing on all cylinders last night on Checkpoint and was interviewing a water scientist who gave our water here in New Zealand a very low score. The Government must be grinding their teeth over the man and wondering “is there nothing we can do to get rid of this pesky irritant”. May John Campbell keep up the good work of keeping this Government to account. Somebody on TDB said that the poor scientist will not be getting any funding for next year, I thought instantly this when I was listening to him – ouch you are truly destined for the wilderness.

  14. So to the farmers who say “stop blaming us”. The evidence now is that it is bovine contamination. To the farmers crying wolf, “disprove the evidence” and stop complaining that your being picked on!

  15. I used to scoff at people who bought bottled water in NZ. I used to say they were paying money for nothing when they could get just as good water from the taps for free.
    That’s what I thought.
It seems increasingly clear that I was wrong and the people who bought bottled water were right.
How could this happen in supposedly first world 100% clean green New Zealand?
Answer: welcome to another National Party/Federated Farmers/Tourism industry myth totally blown out of the water. This is the real New Zealand, the 100% fake spin doctored New Zealand with water so disgusting you wouldn’t even let your dog swim in it, let alone drink it.
Thanks National, another fine mess you have got us in.
Please be so good as to shoot yourselves after you have been arseholed out in November next year.

  16. Perhaps this is what they really meant by the term ” trickle down”. You can’t say we were not warned.

  17. while i agree with the group denuncuations – the face must be faced that those cows would not be there if most of(?) the people on this thread were not eating the flesh and bye-products that come from those farms..

..mike joy noted that over half of our global emissons come from farming/processing etc.

..so i must confess to being a bit impatient/abrupt with those who point their fingers and wring their hands over global warming..

.and then use those same fingers/hands to stuff their mouths/bellies with animal flesh/fat/bye-products..(would you like cheese on that..?..)

..why can they not do the one thing they can actually do about climate change..?

    namely stopping eating flesh/fat/bye-products..

..it is in part because of you that we are creating a sea of shit..

..no matter how you try to slice it and dice it..

..you are part of the problem..how can you not be,,?

    ..

    • and of course the combination of this seachange in perceptions of dairy farmers moving from good guys to the uncaring bastards who are irrevocably fucking our environment..

..plus the imminent arrival of fake meat so close to the real thing you cant taste/see the difference..that has none of the health downsides of/from animal flesh/fat.and is much cheaper/’greener’ to produce..

      ..this pincer-movement guarantees one thing..

..that the dairy industry future is so down the crapper as to be around the u-bend…

(and i have said it before..but it bears repeating..if anyone knows of/has influence with any iwi who are sinking their treaty-settlement into this sunset-industry..to please not..!..for all the obvious reasons..

..they will lose that settlement money…if they do/persist…

..please tell me how they won’t..?..)
