Unbelievably, the NZ Herald is continuing to pimp a bully like Paula Bennett as a victim as part of their latest attempt by their Gen Y ‘news’ reporters to find relevance.

It’s ironic that a newspaper whose first editorial called on New Zealanders to attack Maori and who over its history has denigrated unionists, feminists and anyone not white for most of their editorial life should lecture on cyber bullying. This is the newspaper which was donkey deep in enabling Cameron Slater to commit his dirty politics smears. This is a newspaper that called for David Cunliffe to resign over a $100 000 bottle of wine that never existed. This is a newspaper who used Rachel Glucina to masquerade as a PR person when she was doing a spin job for the PMs Office to attack the courage of Amanda Bailey.

Bennett published details about beneficiaries who criticised her. She lied about the Salvation Army so she could pretend the homeless liked living in cars and last week she spitefully smeared the Marae who are making her look bad.

This is a woman who has over seen tens of thousands thrown off welfare and support services lecturing about being a fucking victim. What ‘stop the hate’ is really about is the privilege that has been eroded in gatekeepers like the NZ Herald, suddenly their pundits and mouth pieces of the powerful have to face the derision and anger of the people their policies and news narratives impact. Sure their are some cruel and damaged people doing terrible things online, Cameron Slater and his demented mates where outed over that in Dirty Politics –  but news sources who make their money by being divisive has little place in being the solution to that.

Where was the Herald’s ‘stop the hate’ campaign when they were enabling Slater? Where was it when they outed Amanda Bailey using false pretences? How convenient they suddenly want to stop the hate when it’s directed at them.

  1. The Herald some times need a good kick up the back side but what will happen when and if they join with the Dom posts so much for the free market driving down prices through competition now we are seeing companies joining to maximize profits or increase them. So much for the market working we are still waiting for our power cuts promised by Max Bradford ( Nats)

  2. No surprises with the Herald.
Their behaviour has always been reprehensible and their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
They are well known for where they stand and it’s not on principle.
Mouthpiece’s for their major shareholders who exploit biased evil crap under the cover of so called journalism.
    Excellent points here Martyn.

    • Agreed. The campaign should really be called “Stop The Hate Against Our Tory Masters And Their Moneyed Friends”. Then again, this is hardly surprising coming from Granny Herald. They’ve had John Key’s arm up their bum for pretty much the entirety of his tenure as PM. Like Hosking and Henry, they’re nauseating sycophants whose only loyalty is to themselves and the vested interests they represent.

  3. And where was the Herald when it smeared David Cunliffe with a fifteen year old letter and fake bottles of $100,000 wine??

    Crocodile tears.

    And there we have it.

    Sheer hypocrisy at its best.

This is the NZ Herald that has become a cheap copy of some grotty little English tabloid. Front page being plastered about with irrelevant teenybopper articles – with Max Key being part of it.

And, of course… the vicious little streak demonstrating its political bias as mentioned above by Martyn Bradbury.

  5. Crosby Textor is in hard drive digging out it’s glam tool kit again, trying to reconstruct yet another failed politician that national will become top heavy with these lame brainers and capsize eventually without a set of stabilisers like an unstable cruise ship this one is obviously called the “Key love boat”!

  6. And did you hear Matthew Hooton ranting on Morning Report this morning about nasty journalists attacking Bennet.

    • And yet Hooten and others including the Herald were ruthless in attacking Helen and her govt with a wicked campaign that worsened in 2006-08 after she won against all odds in 2005 when Brash thought they had it in the bag!!
      Bloody Hypocrisy
      They are pigs swill !

  7. Forget cyber bulling, wasn’t Bennett in the car with Chester Burrows when they ran over protestors recently?

    “stop the hate ” campaign
could start with us not seeing Max Key in the Herald every bloody day of the week. I bloody hate seeing his mug every day…

And lastly Bennett gave away any “stop the hate” rights when she released the two beneficiaries names several years ago.

  8. Hi, no need to publish this comment but this piece could use a proof/edit. I’m an ex-sub but find on re-reading my angry and passionate rants about this f’n Govt they often look the same 🙂
