  1. Here’s a big question – why didn’t David Cunliffe present like this when he was Labour party leader?

  2. Labour ran a campaign to try and prevent National from vetoing Labour’s PP bill. National was going to stomp on it at all costs, and they did, and there wasn’t anything the opposition could do about it. Laila knows this. Blaming Labour and the opposition for National’s self serving, mean spirited, amoral and unjustifiable stomping on Kiwi families and democracy, was pointless. Put the blame where it really lies, with National and don’t let the public forget it.

Sue Moroney wrote: “This afternoon, John Key and Bill English vetoed our plan to extend Paid Parental Leave to 26 weeks, by exploiting unjustified veto powers which have never been used on an entire Bill before.
This is disappointing. It’s frustrating and enraging that National used their veto powers on a Bill that has the support of the majority of Parliament and Kiwis.
Labour knows how vital it is for parents to spend time with their babies in the first few months of life.
That’s why we’ll extend Paid Parental Leave when we change the Government next year.”

  3. Love the TDB and Martyn’s current affairs show !! Friday night wrap up is my most favourite of them all !!

  4. Paula Bennett was part of the group that determined Tena’s disgraceful compensation offer. Says it all doesn’t it?

  5. Great show. Thanks to Michael and Laila for pointing out the failings of the welfare state and drawing attention to the In Work Tax Credit- a tax-funded payment to alleviate Child poverty that does not go to the poorest families! The immediate extension of the IWTC to all low income families would cost $500m would not solve but but would actually reduce the worse child poverty significantly .

  6. Great to see proper political discussion at depth in New Zealand.
where else, on main stream NZ media does this happen..nowhere, it is a national disgrace that New Zealand citizens are left almost completely uninformed by our media.
    Well done.
