The computer room got flooded with sewage overnight from the toilets , so no education classes. Ditto for the indoor recreation area, passage to the outdoor recreation area, outside the kitchen serving hatch, laundry room and PCO Phil Cullen’s office . It happened overnight , but somehow officers didn’t notice until 7.30am , even though they are supposed to patrol everywhere at least 2 hourly. What a stench ! Officers have been issued gumboots , but not inmates .

Corrections contracted plumbers are in South Auckland and weren’t here until 10am . Cleaners Spotless Ltd ( also in South Auckland ) still aren’t here.

This is the 3rd time this has happened . Most institutions have audible sewage overflow alarms , but as we know , Corrections don’t mind placing inmates health at risk .

  1. we just dont care Arthur. If the prisoners cared they would get off their arses and clean it up themselves.

    • We do care Dave lots of us do care. Why weren’t they on to it sooner, why weren’t the screws doing the job they are paid for.

    • Prisoners are locked up at night & not provided with abundant cleaning supplies nor the ability to drive to the shop for supplies. I expect a government to maintain its assets so the drainage system works. It is a reasonable assumption that some of the prisoners could deliberately cause blockages so the drainage design needs to make damage as hard as possible while having quick access to the most likely blockage points (WC outlet).
It looks like 50% of readers don’t care but the way we treat prisoners will influence their attitude & behavior when released.

  2. Nz as a whole dont care about prisoners tales of woe! If one of our houses gets a sweage leak or blocked toilet we call a plumber and await when they are free to fix it. Could be same day or a cpl of days, and we have to pay for it! Why are we subjected to Arthur Taylors moaning, this career criminal deserves every uncomfortable thing that comes his way!

  3. Oh dear, it looks like the Sensible Sentencing trust brigade have been paying a visit to down-vote comments they don’t like. Coupled to inane comments by Dave and Imright, and the Right are dining out on their toxic prejudices.

    • So, Jollo, do you also comment critically on what people like John Key, Graeme Hart, and other rich listers earn? No? Why is that?

Is your commentary designed to knock a prisoner who wants to work and earn money, and instead you prefer him to resort to crime?

Really, it seems that according to moralistic Right-wingers like you, people like Taylor are condemned by you if they commit crime; go on welfare; or even earn money legitimately.

Meanwhile, you avoid the real point of this blog-post as you indulge in a strategy of deflection. I gather you can’t address the issues we’re discussing here, without resorting to a spot of character-assassination. (And all done behind your cloak of anonymity. Very brave of you.)

      • Oh I think he definitely raises some good points. He’s certainly an extremely clever man, but do you take what he say’s at face value?

His comments would have more impetus however if he wasn’t making them from the comfort of his office from where he earns a three figure income and still makes us foot the bill for his legal aid.

        • But why are you still obsessed with whatever he earns? You don’t seem to make the same judgementalism with the Rich Listers.

But I guess that’s the tactic you Right-wingers use – attack the man, don’t address the issues. It’s much easier, isn’t it, “Jollo”? Especially when it’s done through anonymity.

          So let’s cut the ad hominem and address one of the problems Arthur Taylor raised;

It happened overnight , but somehow officers didn’t notice until 7.30am , even though they are supposed to patrol everywhere at least 2 hourly.

So even putting aside the health-risks involved (which would eventually affect us all), it is curious that officers who should be on two-hourly patrols did not notice the flooding.

That raises the simple question: why?

          • “But why are you still obsessed with whatever he earns?”

“You don’t seem to make the same judgementalism with the Rich Listers -”

Actually I did, but you must have missed that part. And besides the fact that the rich listers aren’t in jail nor have they left hundreds of victims berefit (aside from their shady business dealings!)

And the bleating of someone who earns a three figure income while in jail raving about how hard life is (and from an office inside) is somewhat ironic.

“But I guess that’s the tactic you Right-wingers use – attack the man, don’t address the issues.”

            Speaking of irony….

            • So you don’t want Arthur Taylor to earn a wage? Would you rather he went on the dole, Jollo? Then you could change your pseudonym and attack him for being a beneficiary-bludger, instead of earning a living. Basically, Jollo, you don’t seem to be happy no matter what Arthur Taylor does.

          • And you are also forgetting that despite the oppresive conditions he claims to live under, he was also able to run and profit off a methamphetamine ring that he controlled from behind bars (and was found guilty of)….

But hey, that’s attacking the man right, kinda like what we do to John key?

            • You’re clutching at straws, Jollo. No one has ever claimed he’s a saint (or even a law-abiding citizen). But he’s still entitled to earn a legitimate income; speak his mind; and reveal to the public when prison conditions do not meet the standards which Parliament and Corrections have set.

You still haven’t addressed the problem raised by Taylor; that despite supposed regular patrols, no prison guard noticed that raw sewerage was leaking throughout the facility. That’s the issuer here and if you can’t address that without ad hominems then you’re wasting everyone’s time.
