…we will also have regular guest bloggers appear throughout 2016. TDB has the largest and widest range of progressive opinion of any blog in NZ and we are currently sitting at number 2 in the NZ blog rankings (behind Kiwiblog). We have expanded into having a 7pm weeknightly live streamed current affairs show which looks at issues in far  more depth than Story or Seven Sharp do.

We have only come this far because of the loyalty and support of our readers and whanau. We thank you all for your continued support as we attempt to give NZers the other side of the story at a time of total right wing dominance of the mainstream media and a Government that abuses political power like few others have.

In solidarity.

  1. This is great news. Well done on TDB for managing this feat.

A suggestion. (You’re not going to like it.)

Can Martyn’s plentiful rants be moved to a section called ‘venting’? Sorry mate, but your organisation and administration skills seem far better than most of your writing. The good, analytical and constructive posts are too often undermined by several which are really just moaning about ‘sleepy hobbits’, John Key or whatever. They feel more like a comments section.

    ps
That said, I guess you’ve become this popular doing it your way, so forget I said anything.

    • I kind of like Martyn’s rants. I think he gives voice to the average punter on the street in many instances, and sometimes you need someone with a bit of mongrel in them to wake people up. I think we can do without the grudge matches between TDB and The Standard, as I frequent both sites regularly and fighting amongst ourselves is playing into neo-liberal hands, but that spate of public spats (how’s that for alliteration) seems to have been knocked on the head for the time being.

Part of Martyn’s charm is the fact that he’s not afraid to be belligerent in the name of a good cause. Sometimes civil discourse over cups of tea and digestive biscuits simply isn’t sufficient. You need to cause a fuss and kick up a stink. Mr Bradbury excels in that regard.

      • I feel a lot better each day after I have read the comments on TDB and The Standard, there are like people making constructive criticism about the sheer madness going on in this country under this current NACT Government?

    • Completely disagree with you about Martyn. So Martyn, please stay as you are, and keep sticking it to John key, his National government of destruction and their cronies, they deserve it. Someone has got to hold them to account, msm won’t.

    • We ARE sleepy hobbits! And John Key deserves vilification at every available opportunity. Thankfully Bomber ‘s just the guy for the job. His rants makes me feel better anyway , cos I know I’m not alone in my views… Keep up the excellent work TDB.

    • Fair enough. I just know it can be a bit alienating, and tbh we’re not the ones that need convincing, right?
I dunno, maybe those are what attracted be to the site in the first place – the bait, if you will, in which case I’ve talked myself out of my own argument!

  2. I look forward to reading more from the writers contributing to The Daily Blog.

I may not be able to comment all the time, but I do read and pass on links to others on my Twitter feed.

  3. No, you are 4th (sometimes 5th) in blog rankings….because a blog or two requested to be removed does not make you bigger and better. And with that new line up you will never get into the top 3 spot…moaning/whinging/conspiricy under every rock and of course the obligitory ‘ohhh woe are we’ blogs will continue unabated, so really nothing will change, keep it up Martyn as we on the right (the majority and looking forward to an easy victory and 4th term for national next year) love to read all your tears of frustration on TDB.

    • Why do you sound so worried and have to lie then You’re Wrong? No one is twisting your arm to come onto the Daily Blog, go back to slimy Whaleoil, that’s more suited to you.

  4. well done to TDB, keep on truck’n’!!

as long as there are a couple of marxist inspired writers I am more than happy with the rest of the crew

Bombers style is fine, they don’t like it up ’em–the 1%ers and their sycophants that is–just do that fact check before pressing “go”

there are enough blogs for every style from “luvvie” to “seriously bent” which puts TBD in the stylistic middle really, but where it really wins is the wide range of contributors and now the regular broadcast

  5. Excellent new line up, great seeing Labour MPs on the list. Very happy about that.

I read a while back that The Standard is losing a lot of their authors etc. don’t know why, but I can see why The Standard is losing their readership though. TS’s often mindless negative bashing commentary, particularly against the Labour Party is most off-putting. The hatefest against Labour, often led by a most petty and vindictive troll Colonial Viper, who not only doesn’t seem to allow any opportunity to pass to have a go at slagging and lying about Labour, whilst giving National a free pass, he often abuses and bans people if he is challenged as well. So, instead of an intelligent discussion, the thread descends into a vicious attack as other trolls hop on board Viper’s train of hate. I can see why it would put people off, and why more and more people would rather come to the Daily blog for a more reasoned discussion that stays on topic AND as an added bonus, TDB has an awesome current affairs program every night too !!
