Talley’s company South Pacific Meats (SPC) has been fined $144,000 in an Employment Authority decision released yesterday for their refusal to allow for union meetings.
“Talley’s are developing a reputation for having little respect for the law. The Authority has sent a clear message with this fine, that no company, no matter how big, rich or powerful, is above the law,” CTU President, Richard Wagstaff said today.
“All working people are lawfully entitled to join in union should they wish to do so. Freedom of association is something we all hold dear. This judgement is a great reminder of that,”
“The CTU congratulates the work of the tenacious members of the Meat Workers Union, who are employed by Talley’s, in their struggle for fairness at work,” Wagstaff said.
