Let them eat cake.

George FM have not only decided to give the pin up boy for privilege, Max Key, a DJ slot, they have also gone as far as warning every other DJ at the station to to criticise the silver spooned one on social media or risk getting dumped…

George FM warns DJs – bag your mates (including Max Key) and face the sack
George FM sent an email to its staff warning them not to criticise their colleagues or face being taken off air just days after the station hired Max Key as its new night time host.

Days after the announcement that the Prime Minister’s son would host George FM’s new night show “Key’d In”, a leaked email was posted on Twitter in which staff were warned to play nice.

No negativity towards the new roster would be tolerated and “anyone who cannot adhere to this requirement will be taken off air instantly”, the email said.

…it’s bad enough that Max Key gets to humblebrag his privilege through social media and epitomise all that is wrong with our shallow ‘celebrity’ culture but giving him a free pass so another commercial radio station can give the Keydashian brand even more leverage is eye rolling.

It’s not Max Key’s fault who his father is, but what Max Key does decide is how to use his wealth and position of power, and to date in a land of widening inequality that decision has been to promote himself.

Privilege never sounded so crass.

As far as product launches go this is a failure.

I mean who would want to subsidise there child’s hobby job.

Right now I’m starting to get really sick of popcorn

  2. Indeed,… and it was for exactly these reasons that so many of the the monarchy’s of Europe came to a very nasty end… Russia and the Czars family , France and its King and his family…

History is rarely ever learnt by these types and even less is it heeded…

It is only a very small step away from the toffs visiting London’s East End to view the vulgarities of the working class on a Saturday night for their entertainment…indeed,…this flaunting of privilege and position may not be such a wise move in the near future…

And as I have posted in regard to Mattew Hooton , PM John Key … I serve again as a warning to Keys very own son these lyrics… and with Max Key as a DJ,… I am sure he will recognize the significance immediately…

I look at you all see the love there that’s sleeping
    While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
    Still my guitar gently weeps

I don’t know why nobody told you
    How to unfold your love
I don’t know how someone controlled you
    They bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it’s turning
    While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
    Still my guitar gently weeps

    Well…

I don’t know how you were diverted
    You were perverted too
I don’t know how you were inverted
    No one alerted you

I look at you all see the love there that’s sleeping
    While my guitar gently weeps
    Look at you all
    Still my guitar gently weeps

While my guitar gently weeps . by The Beatles. And written along time before Max was even born.

Be warned , young Max…. that all that glitters is not necessarily gold in this life… and some things are far more precious than mere gold …or its illusion.

    • @ WILD KATIPO – you comment – “Be warned , young Max…. that all that glitters is not necessarily gold in this life… ”

“GLITTER” – oh poor daddy (FJK) was attacked by nasty terrorist protesters yesterday at the Big Gay Out by glitter.

Please be more tactful and sensitive in your use of words WK. You don’t want to upset Max and his papa J do you?

Glitter might be on the banned list before long! To be found in possession of such a product, will be a criminal offence!

The same could be said of someone wanting to change NZ’s flag. OR Someone doing a three-way handshake at the 2011 RWC. OR Someone on Letterman taking the piss out of NZ. OR Someone in the changing room with Richie and the boys in 2015 RWC. OR someone tossing the coin for the Black Caps. OR Someone in the Black Cap changing rooms. OR Someone wanting to change the country’s name from New Zealand to New Keyland. Sure is greazy…

Is there no end to the greazy?

    • Thanks for that link Endoro John.
Covers my concern that although we share with John Key, a wish that our offspring have opportunities, (used to “better “opportunities, I would settle for them having the “same”opportunities, as my generation these days).

This describes exactly how Key has decimated the chances of the vast majority of New Zealanders, from sharing that with wish with him.
      Greed, just greed.

  3. This has nothing to do with his dad pulling any strings – if you think that you need a reality check. What it is really about is George’s desperation and their need to generate PR which is hard for a radio station which has progressively burned more and more bridges in the music scene since Mediaworks bought them. The childish antics of Thane Kirby/Kara Rickard have worn thin and they’re just turning to new ideas to attract attention. It’s nothing to be surprised about.

The writer of the warning letter is Jay Bulletproof who chose Max for one of the new night shows because he fits with the style-over-substance direction George has been heading, despite what they claim about his music. They want attention whores and showboaters a lot more than they do musical talent so no matter what Max is really like we will hear glowing stories from those involved (as anyone would).

    • Shame on jay – I remember him bagging John jets son for being a “fag” when he put up a lorde remix on soundcloud

      • It’s hard to be too hard on Jay as he is a bonafide idiot. He knows no better than faux niceness. He’s always shown up swinging in support of his mates, even ones accused and convicted of heinous crimes.

  4. Hmmmm….2 years… for an election in 2017…

Stephen Joyce, ex owner of Mediaworks…media contacts…

Unpopularity with TTPA and the atrophy of the Key led govt after 3 terms….

Continual gaffes and damaging public image stunts…

Growing resistance to the ‘tax cuts for the rich’ , minimum wage economy…

Labour announcing free tertiary education as an opener with more to come…

Could this be,…. that Bush – oops! , – Key senior,… is enlisting the services of Key junior to win over the youth vote ?….

    Particularly with this ….

A George FM DJ has hit out at the station’s hiring of the Prime Minister’s son, Max Key, in an explicit rant on Facebook.

Sam Evans, who has run The Saucer show between 2pm and 4pm on Saturdays since 1998, claims it “was pulled out from under me while I was away with work”.

He added: “No conversation, warning, ph calls, emails or even a text about what was going to happen. Even after a number of unanswered calls & messages left there was just a sweet F*** ALL in response… not even a thank you for the years of service… maybe I should expected that right…”

    ………………………………………………………………………………………..

    You decide….

    • Just Mediaworks implementing Zero Hours contracts+Whistleblower clauses for Sam Evans the DJ.

I’m sure that FMK will be exempt though and there will be a sycophantics pro-National and pro-FJK slant to any commentary.

Unlikely to have Eminem’s “Lose yourself” as the first song on the playlist though.

      • “Unlikely to have Eminem’s “Lose yourself” as the first song on the playlist though”

I d love to know what the payout for that court case was, and who paid, the taxpayers ?

Its def been settled as you cant fnd ANY info on the net about the case

        OIA request ?

        • Probably a nudge-nudge-wink-wink-say-no-more backroom deal – you know – like the Skycity Convention Centre deal.

          Excuse the wart.

  5. So the Key Derangement Syndrome skips generations?

Why not start bagging Max Key’s unborn future children as well?

Seriously though, the left never liked Jim Bolger or Jenny Shipley, but they never thought that abusing their family members was fair play.

I have never heard the left bagging the family of Roger Douglas (And we all know that to the left Douglas is the devil himself)

And in the 90’s NZ economic conditions were a lot worse than now.

I know it is frustrating for those on the left to be sliding into irrelevancy but the solution is to deal with the issues causing this not to personally abuse the family members of your political opponents.

Sure Max Key is probably using his profile to assist with his career – I don’t have a problem with this – everyone in the world uses what factors they can to help themselves get ahead.

it just seems a little trashy for political commentators to be sneering/abusing a young fella simply because they dislike his father. The left should have better ethics than that.

    • We think it’s the ‘bent key syndrome’ that got max the job …….

I thought Max boy s main ambition was to be a billionaire ???

Which would make him play Monty Burns sets ….

      Lots of ‘money’ remixes

    • @Thinkagain you post … “Why not start bagging Max Key’s unborn future children as well?”

Dear Lord no! Save us from that lot continuing that caustic line through future generations. NZ and the world even, deserves to be spared that dreadful fate!

  6. George FM SACKS DJ to employ Max Key!

George FM DJ Sam Evans has posted a fuming rant on his Facebook page over his alleged unfair dismissal and the station’s hiring of the Prime Minister’s son, Max Key.

“After 17 years of solid dedication, no pay & holding down George FM’s longest running show The Saucer, it was pulled from under me while I was away with work,” Evans told his Facebook followers.

“No conversation, warning, ph calls, emails or even a text about what was going to happen,” he wrote.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv-radio/76826644/george-fm-dj-rants-about-new-recruit-max-key

    • Sam’s post, which I have read, didn’t accuse Key of anything. His show was not even on the same day (Sat vs Tues). His issue was solely that after 17 years of volunteering for George and having one of the highest regarded shows he was told in a short email basically “we don’t need you anymore.” No thanks you, no phone call, no explanation. This is how George operates under Mediaworks. Many DJs have lost their shows in recent years without even a courtesy “last show” offer. And Sam isn’t even the only DJ to be shafted recently either. Only weeks ago another two longtime George DJs were given ultimatums to move to worse time-slots or lose their show. One opted to walk, the other took the new time-slot.

  7. Max Key is a media phenomenon. He is another perfect part of the perfect distraction. He will not have to pick his nose in public or play his music upside down naked to be in the news.

At least with his time slot he will not have to compete with RadioSport or the Farming Show to get daddy on air. Disengaging Hosking from daddy’s nethers so the opposition company doesn’t get into the studio could be a problem though.

Some will say “Leave him alone, he’s going his own way, it’s nothing to do with his father”. I say, why if there’s a class war going on should the victims all be on one side?

  8. For most ordinary kids, DJing consists of doing gigs at friends’ parties, maybe getting a slot on a indie radio station (no pay), doing the rounds of night clubs and asking for opportunities and gradually building up a following. That’s what my boy did. He never got a slot on a Media Works station as of right, although he did eventually do some gigs in London, and now for just fun in Chamonix, France. Talent and perseverance is what most get by on, not privilege.

    • Nepotism syndrome and brown-nosing par excellence to get him his DJ position, then threats and bully-boy employement tactics to stifle the inevitable ire from his co-workers.

      • @ WINNIE – absolutely correct.

Political nepotism, the filthy power game played by dictatorial and despotic regimes, using force, intimidation and bullying tactics to promote family members, always at the expense of others!

  9. As a parent of young adults I’m not comfortable with all the Max Key bashing. He’s a young man growing into himself and trying to make his way in the world – sure his father happens to be PM but that doesn’t preclude him from being entitled to the space and time to do his own thing without the media watching his every move.
I think we all need to remember something important and that is that Max and his family are people just like the rest of us with feelings and relationships. Put yourselves in his or his parents shoe’s – and just hold that for a moment and imagine reading such articles and the comments that go with them.
We on the left need to stay focused on the policies and the economic direction being carried forward by the National government and how we convince voters to bring about something different.
Play the ball not the man as they say in football or no personality politics as Jeremy Corbin would say.

    • A grown adult seems to have lost his job to make way for this ‘younger’ noob…

Not only that – censuring seems to have taken place surrounding this affair.

It is not the persons ‘youth’ at issue here but employment relations coupled with the very likelihood of who that person is, their obvious contacts and potential political interference that we are all objecting to.

I’m sure if you lost your job without explanation and then there was a gagging order put out by the employer ( obviously to prevent employee criticism of favoritism ) you would be a little more than pissed yourself.

  10. Maybe Sam Evans needs to take a personal grievance against Mediaworks for unfair dismissal. It would be interesting to see who would turn up to defend Mediaworks’ position in the employment court, and how much money would be thrown at the case to “make it go away”.

Sounds very much like the TV3 axing of Campbell Live to ‘make that left-wing bastard go away’.

  11. George FM memo:

“we are a team here at George..”

[…and you must do exactly what management dictates, at pain of dismissal].

Some people are so immersed in doublespeak they can’t even recognise it.

    The comedy writes itself.

  12. The Son of God using radio to spread his Father’s message.

Like his creepy Papa J, Max is a joke and a tainted blot on the face of everything that is clean and decent!
