Unbelievable…

Govt may give state tenants cash to move to regions
The government is looking at cash incentives to get Auckland’s state housing tenants to move to the regions.
There are more than 2000 people on the waiting list for urgent state housing in Auckland.

Ms Bennett said there were empty houses in other parts of New Zealand.

“We just can’t deny we’ve got too many people on the waiting list in Auckland and it seems we’ve got empty houses around other parts of New Zealand where we know there are employment opportunities, where people could build a really solid foundation and start a new life, and we’re just not even giving them that choice at the moment.”

…seeing as many of these state tenants are also beneficiaries, moving from Auckland where they can at least conform to National’s draconian work for welfare demands by holding down menial low paying no dignity jobs to just gain the few crumbs in welfare offered, is a nonsense.

How are beneficiaries supposed to gain the work they need to do to get welfare if they move out of the only city providing that work?

The truth is the Government have no real intention of solving the property bubble in Auckland because it’s the only thing generating GDP. If National were truly concerned with the plight of state tenants, they would cease the state housing privatisation agenda and build more state houses, not try and shift large chunks of South Auckland to the banjo twanging South.

  1. Looks to me like she’s being groomed for primespinster based on her ability to screw people over and maintain empty dialogue, perfect for when the affects of the tppa start surfacing.

    • It’s almost like ‘ethnic’ cleansing isn’t it…. Get rid of the Polynesians, Maoris and others to the South….. ( I am disgruntled at your use of the term “Banjo twanging South” Martyn….. a low blow… but I digress. Paula Bennett has completely lost the plot… The small towns she is trying to send these poor vulnerable Auckland citizens, don’t have enough jobs for the citizens who already live there… ie : Ashburton – they have 7 empty Housing NZ homes with a wait list of 15…. now thats organisation isn’t it… in other words they have no homes available and a wait list of 8 people so all these poor sods being packed off with a monetary incentive of a poxy $3000 (not even enough to cover furniture removal or rental deposits..) are being sent to even more struggle and poverty… Paula Bennett should be hung drawn and quartered for her disgusting attempt at solving the Auckland Social housing crisis.. Love from me down in “Banjo country”

  2. You could make the same points without the North of Bombay BS.

Paula Bennett shows the same the-poor-are-our-slaves mentality that we always hear.

Need people to bring in the harvest in Hawkes Bay? Send the beneficiaries. Need some sandbagging done? Where’s a beneficiary when you need one? Need someone to move into a moldy, unhealthy hovel? Yup! I have a couple with their three little bennies right here! And the best thing is, when they complain they lose all their rights!

That said, if she were to put appropriate effort into encouraging the relocation of businesses to the regions – easy, you would have thought in these communication-revolution days, many people would not have to be asked twice. This, of course will never happen under National. (Although it just might with a Labour Party, who focus so largely on creating work opportunities. – Sorry all you Labour haters, but it is true). What they are actually proposing (floating would be a better term because if there were no fish-hooks John Key would be announcing it) is to relocate the “unemployables” to get their hands on more land for the “deserving poor” or the “aspiring battlers” or even the “wealth creating entrepreneurs”. Depending on how cynical you are feeling.

This will no doubt play well among their target audience. (Get rid of those unsightly ferals (and shut up their complaints at the same time), while making more land available for people like us. (The salt of the Earth Kiwis)). But it does a pretty major disservice to those who hope for a better, more constructive and compassionate country.

  3. You have to see this from Nationals point of view!

    1. It free’s up housing stock and land for investors (and donors)
    2. It gets rid of State Housing tenants to some nowhereville where they can be forgotten.
    3. And it quietly enhances subtle but unofficial policy of segregation for as Paula says; “For example, there is such a strong Pacific Island community in South Auckland,” Ms Bennett said.

“However, there is a strong Samoan community in Ashburton. There is a huge Tongan community in Oamaru, and I don’t think we emphasise that enough and let people know that Auckland is not the only place that they can reside.”

Translated – Get them out of Auckland all together and every white National voter is a winner!

Trust a cheesy maggot like Bennett to front this ethnic cleansing policy!

  4. The Tories really don’t have a clue, the fact is the country is in economic stagnation and it is the Auckland housing market with hot Asian money and the Christchurch rebuild propping the country up? There are no jobs out there – fact.

  5. If you see this as part of a larger strategy it makes perfect sense.
    1. make peasants move to dead-end parts of the country;
    2. axe their benefits because they cannot find work.
    3. money saved from welfare meaning the rich can have another tax cut.

    • That was the old policy this is the new policy?

It is like shuffling the pieces of paper or rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic!!!

  6. Happy Holidays to those on zero hour contracts! I have had work 5 days a week since the beginning of November, however because my contract wasn’t changed I didn’t receive any stats even though I am entitled because they are days I would have worked had they not been public holidays. The payroll goes through Australia and the correction has only just been paid today! Our family would have been financially better off on a soul-destroying benefit rate over Christmas/New year. Is it any wonder people are reluctant to take insecure work!

  7. Yes the government and Paula bennett are BS artists..and those of us that moved to rural areas get asked by winz why did we move when Jobs are in Auckland..mmm catch 22..damned if we do and damned if we dont..but the government feels it fitting to shuffle people away from their support services and families and even part time work just so they and justify their pathetic pockets…I reckon the sooner we get rid of national the better…

  8. Truth be known John Key, the national party & their supporters would prefer if all these people committed suicide & end their social responsibility to help them

  9. It’s almost like ‘ethnic’ cleansing isn’t it…. Get rid of the Polynesians, Maoris and others to the South….. ( I am disgruntled at your use of the term “Banjo twanging South” Martyn….. a low blow… but I digress. • Social engineering is what they call it?

Like tax cuts for the rich funded by Offshore Borrowings and GST increases for the poor?

Different ways of skinning the cat?

  10. The Banjo Twanging South ! ? Fuck off ! What happened to your egalitarian ideals? You’re sounding more like a red neck ponce sucking on NZ’s latte tit in a dull little city surrounded by like minded hypocrites . No one hates paula bennetts plentiful guts more than me and I know what The Nat’s are up to. They’re attempting to redistribute NZ’s labour force back into the primary industry hinterlands from where they were poached by the Dawn of the Neo Liberals for their fun and profits, which built pointless Auckland I might add.
They realise that they’ve had their fun, made their billions now it’s time to kick start our export sector again and there’s no small amount of urgency about that.
As for Auckland being our ( NZ’s ) only source of GDP ? What ! ? Have you bumped your head ? How can you remain so unbelievably ignorant?

I’m out. This writer’s not going to be a party to this shit any longer.

    • The elitism from Auckland really is something special isn’t it? Something Hosking, Henry and Bomber all have very much in common (there’s three names you wouldn’t normally find together, but it is what it is). It’s not a good look. No wonder the vast majority of NZers (that factually DON’T live in Auckland BTW), don’t see Auckland in a very positive light. This sort of lame (and with zero merit) pompous BS should be beneath us, especially on this site. Apparently it isn’t.

    • Not to mention blaming everything bad on the Baby Boomers. I’m one, and I’ve never been anything other that poor, despite the free education I so selfishly took advantage of. I’m also a socialist, not one of those vile neolibs.

    • I am sure South Islanders in small towns are going to welcome brown Maori and Pacific Islanders with open arms to take up vacant State houses?

Hopefully there are plenty of work opportunities?

National want to cleanse areas like Glen Innes and Panmure which are prime residential areas close to Auckland City with magnificient sea views of the Tamaki Estuary.

  11. The “Banjo Twanging South” bit is straight out of the Slater crap textbook of idiocy.

The only way using such an appalling turn of phrase which would suggest an apology is not needed, is if it were intended as a compliment.
A compliment because the North too has quality banjo twanging: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwxeeM0BQktc6iJSrMlr2vg

Worse though is not the appalling words, but the judgemental, sad attitudes that would see them even being considered. It’s what I expect from the Slater blog.

  12. the policy would work if there was regional economic development plans in place
but this is godshit out Paula benefits mouth this is a dumping ground policy for those who have and will be disenfranchised by the economy out of site out of mind

    • Believe it or not, there are some so called pundits, who think she has great chances of being National’s next leader, that is after Key. I think that would be a gift to the progressives in NZ, should that happen, it would be a present on a silver platter, politically.

Her ignorance, lack of professionalism and plain shallowness is beyond belief, it is also beyond belief that so many equally characterized people and voters give her any credit.

There lies a great danger, the dumb and blind leading the dumbed down and blinded.
