Every month Saudi Arabia seems to do something so inhumane you are forced to demand why the hell NZ is a) trying to get a free trade deal with them and b) why the bloody hell we are still bribing a Saudi businessman with dead lambs and abattoirs.
Recently Saudi Arabia have been exposed as being one of the big supporters and backers of ISIS, they have decided to crucify a person for being involved in protesting for democracy and this week they have decided to punish a woman gang raped for 7 men with 200 lashes.
You read that right…

A court in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sentenced a woman who was gang-raped by seven men to 200 lashes and six months in jail after being found guilty of speaking to the media about the crime and indecency.According to the account of the story reported by the Middle East Monitor, the 19-year-old Shia woman was in the car of a student friend when two men got into the vehicle and drove them to a secluded area, where she was raped by the seven men.
She was initially sentenced to 90 lashes for being in a car of a man who was not related to her. Commentators say Saudi Arabia’s law dictates that a male family member must accompany a woman at all times in public.
…once again – why the hell would we want a free trade deal or bribe a businessman to help gain a free trade deal with a country as truly abhorrent as this.
NZ is the country where women fought and gained the right to vote first, to watch the Key government desecrate that history because they want a few more blood drenched dollars is sickening.
Key screams that we have Jihadi brides in our midst and that ISIS are barbaric but he doesn’t mention the Saudi’s paying large amounts of money to be educated here and their medieval justice system.
When there is money to be made, Key’s selective morality disappears.
We are a better nation than John Key is making us.
John Key simply does not rate women as equitalble, intelligent, significant beings with rights. He attacks them, and panders only to two. The rest be damned.
It is certainly hard to disagree with your logic Martyn which is why I support whatever military action is needed from NZ to take the fight to Daesh who are if anything worse.
As long as were clear that this “fight” that could result in the deaths of New Zealand Service men and women and likely thousands more innocent Syrians has come about in large part due to the US Government’s secret goal of regime change for Syria. Since at least 2006 Syrian regime change has been the US Government’s secret policy. They have colluded with the Saudi Arabian and Egyptian Governments to undermine the recognised, legitimate Syrian Government and set the stage for Daesh. Now New Zealand must help sorting out the blowback.
Not to mention that foreign workers anywhere on the Arab peninsular are treated like eighteenth century slaves.
Saudi law seems to have the following interpretation: if a woman is in the wrong place at the wrong time, then it is her fault that she is in that position and thus anything that happens to her is her fault.
Are we so very different from the Saudis?
Certainly we don’t give a woman 100 lashes for extra punishment after being sexually assaulted because she was out after hours, but there is still the instinctive primary response that if a woman is sexually assaulted than she must have done something to initiate it.
This attitude is well voiced by the right-wing hate merchants such as Cameron Slater and Paul Henry and it is given credibility when the Prime Minister makes jokes about prison rape, wears T-shirts about how manly he is (in response to someone voicing concern about the problem) and treats the roast busters as kids who need to grow up.

How disgraceful and shameful, a crime against humanity, and our media does not seem to bother reporting such things, as it is blind on one eye.
I am not surprised about the hypocritical government we have, they love spin, misrepresentation, and even lies, as we know, so there would not be any comment of sorts, rest assured.
The sun is shining in Hawaii, and a round of golf is waiting for our Esteemed Great Leader, Kim John Key (Not the Babtist John). He is loyal to the Pentagon, White House and especially Wall Street, and they have “their” enemies, and the enemies of their enemies are their friends, as we know.
