Since when did chemical poisoning of parks to ‘save money’ ever sound like a good idea?

Spraying chemical poison on parks in Auckland to ‘save money’ just doesn’t sound like a good idea does it?

Auckland switches to chemical spraying of weeds in parks to save money
Auckland Council will chemically spray all parks with Roundup unless locals find the funds to go chemical-free.

Despite hiking rates by an average 10 per cent Auckland Council has slashed its spending on parks maintenance and moved to chemical spraying of edges to save money.

Parts of the city that were chemical-free must now dip into their local budgets if they don’t want glyphosate, or Roundup, used in their area.

What ever happened to leading by example? Surely dumping chemicals on public parks isn’t leadership? These types of decisions can have huge health impacts on a community and it is up to the next Mayor of Auckland to guarantee this won’t occur.

  1. Anyone read any recent articles on Round-up toxicity, some question marks now being asked about the product and its relationship to human health, when I worked in the agro chemical industry we were told it was virtually harmless however recent articles are saying otherwise.

I would be interested to know what the management get paid at Auckland City for managing Parks & Reserves?

  2. It’s just criminal, spraying toxic chemicals where young children play and fragile old people go sit and relax,
to come in contact with toxic poison that may have a profound effect on their respiratory and heart system
it’s just wrong to spray in public areas with toxic chemicals

will the innocent bystanders even know that it’s been sprayed?
will there signs to warn the ones with a weak immune system?

why don’t Corrections Dept send in the community workers with lawn mowers and weed eaters.

round up is just another toxic substance that we don’t need to eradicate weeds.
