Shakespeare’s least known fairy, I Peaseblossom, comes to life this December 8-12 at Auckland’s Musgrove Studio – Maidment Theatre. This is Shakespeare as never seen before.
Award winning UK actor and playwright Tim Crouch, in partnership with the British Council, will showcase his irreverent and modern take on Shakespeare through the eyes of this cheeky fairy.
I, Peaseblossom, is Tim Crouch’s fresh, unique re-telling of Shakespeare’s famous story A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Mixing contemporary language with excerpts from the original text, this is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen it before. Funny and heart- breaking, this dreamlike journey is perfect for all ages.
Shakespeare’s timeless stories are full of magic and fun and now everyone can enjoy them. Let us introduce Peaseblossom, a lesser-known character who will guide you through one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies.
“We have been chasing Tim across the globe to come to NZ ever since he performed the outrageously entertaining I Peaseblossom in Singapore some five years ago, so we are thrilled to finally have him here,” said British Council Country Director Ingrid Leary.
“Tim is a brilliant writer and performer, who cleverly manages to capture the imaginations of children and adults alike in this work, which is a rare feat.”
Tim’s visit is part of the Shakespeare Lives, an unprecedented global program of events commemorating the death of the world’s most celebrated author.
