Congratulations to former TDB blogger Marama Davidson as she now enters Parliament…

Parliament has a new MP – Marama Davidson replaces Russel Norman
Auckland-based Marama Davidson has entered as Parliament’s newest MP, replacing Green Party stalwart and former co-leader Russel Norman.

…Marama is one of the most important voices for civil rights we have in Parliament right now and she’s one of the most positive additions to our democracy for some time.

She provides real leadership when there is little out there.

Kia kaha Marama.

  1. I’m a Green Party supporter and like all the MPs but I wish there was at least one Green MP who was a real firebrand, not afraid of getting stuck into the opposition, and calling a spade a spade in no uncertain terms. In other words, someone who adds a bit of omph. However, I don’t see how this is ever going to happen as I don’t think they would get high enough up the party list which is voted for democratically by all the members who aren’t the sort to go for this sort of personality.

    • Well to be honest I don’t think the Greens want a firebrand, they have a particular culture that says be careful, be careful, be careful what you say, do not let it be attacking anyone, let your comments be nice. I have been a member of the party for 14 years or so. If you want a spade to be called a spade go for Mana. Not everyone will like the style but there will be no pandering.

  2. After James Shaw gave FJK a free pass over the flag issue, Marama’s presence as a NZ Green MP is a ray of sunshine in Parliament.

Along with Meteria Turei, Marama will be a driving force to be reckoned with in Parliament!

I was so dejected with Shaw’s sell out to help FJK, I was seriously thinking of giving the Greens the flick. However with Marama there now, I might reconsider my allegiance to NZ Green Party.

Good to see Meteria back in the House yesterday.

Go give ’em hell girls 🙂

    • Media would of kept talking flags as the red peak thing grew.Greens just cauterized the pointless debate over a flag that we are not ready to change until real change happens
