  1. So true! And what do the obscene rich do? Put road blocks up like the TPPA. The word elite should be changed to obscene. Quit the double speak and put a sticker on them with who they really are.

    • This man Chomksy is a visionary that all humans must heed as we did with Nostradamus.

The words “filthy rich” should also be applied against those who conspire against us all with their ill gotten money at our expense.

  2. 1% of the worlds population owning 99% of the resources/wealth, the playing field has been well and truely screwed.

  3. Providing an alternate to western currency is very difficult because we have no examples.

Star Trek the series offers a way of thinking about an economy because in Star Trek things have pretty much worked out. You can just magic things into existence with replicators, which uses free energy from mythical antimatter reactors. Poverty is eleminated, financial crimes go as a consequence of abundance, complex economic algorithms are automated allocating resources on a global scale.

What is the one economic point that drives this future? It’s free energy. The costs of photoelectric and photovoltaic cells are rapidly aproching zero, which means the cost of harvesting energy from the sun is rapidly approaching zero. Which means a frictionless economy of free energy is rapidly approaching.

The resource economy may be closer than we think.

    • Indeed, Sam. Not as farfetched as it sounds. Plentiful free/cheap energy plus advanced 3D printing would revolutionise our economy to a point that the pursuit of money (in exchange for goods) is not a motivating factor. Gene Roddenberry was a true revolutionary when he posited a future where pursuing wealth (except by a few malcontents like Harry Mudd) was no longer as important as seeking knowledge for it’s own sake. It was practically socialistic in many respects…

      • People would still do things for status, you would need a good track record to become captain, and to organise people to build starships or complex civilisations. Rather than worrying about your hourly rate.

We wouldn’t need to give a billion away to be good little people. You would need the best idea to solve problems to be a good person.
