With the full flexing of the Rights muscles within Labour forcing a TPPA backdown, Little had no choice but to keep Annette as Deputy. She can reign in the right  and removing the role from her would have been seen as a slap in that factions face.

It wouldn’t have gone unnoticed if Jacinda had been made Deputy, the next fascination from the media would be the distance between her preferred poll ratings and Little’s.

But it isn’t just politics that kept Annette as Deputy, she is a powerful politician with respect from across the Labour spectrum. Her experience is needed now more than ever.

The only downside is the lack of Auckland representation in the Leadership team.

It will make for an interesting Labour Party conference in Palmerston North early next month.

  1. ‘ She can reign in the right and removing the role from her would have been seen as a slap in that factions face ‘ .

‘ But it isn’t just politics that kept Annette as Deputy, she is a powerful politician with respect from across the Labour spectrum ‘.

    Really ?

If she was so respected and powerful then why did Labour do a backdown on the TTPA ?

I’ll tell you why they did a ‘ backdown ‘ on the TTPA – its because that party is riddled with neo liberals just like Annette King , – that’s why !!!

And if that party had any balls whatsoever it would have had a purge years ago and there wouldn’t even be an Annette King in that position – or the Labour party period !!!

Yes Annette King and a few other’s in the Labour caucus might be respected , – and yes they may be powerful – but all for the WRONG REASONS !!!

And while I’m no fan of Jacinda Adern either – what I and thousands of others would like to see is a final overthrow once and for all of these neo liberal fifth columnist’s in the Labour party.

THAT’S when you’ll start to see a return of the people to that party and , – as a byproduct – no more of the insipid , weak , pontificating and suffocated neo liberal- led wretch that currently is the NZ Labour party.

Do that – and all this other pap and musical chairs by their leaders falls by the wayside and finally we’d get some reality about the party.

    Until then ?

Meet the new boss – same as the old boss.

    • Could not agree more Wild Katipo!!!
Wish I could say it as well. The quicker this current Labour party dies the better. Our union movement needs to come back and the first thing they need to do is walk away from the Labour party. Remove the financial support so the whole rotten house crashes into itself!
I expect Shonkey and his mates to screw me but not the so-called party of the workers.
A curse on this Labour Party!

  2. ” The only downside is the lack of Auckland representation in the Leadership team. ”

Considering how useless Auckland is to the overall financial health of NZ, and one could argue it is , in fact , a drain on our foreign exchange, or of how desperate , greedy and grasping it’s middle classes have become having been paid far too many compliments by its Wizard-tripping-on-Mushrooms false economy fed by the addictive ashes of the burned fairy wings that is its ‘ housing boom ‘. Fires fuelled by debt peddled on the street corners of Queen Street by foreign owned Banks I’d say fuck Auckland and thank Christ it’s no where near Labour Lite. As for Annette King ? ” …. Annette as Deputy, she is a powerful politician …. ”
Powerful politician ?? Or an egotistical and sociopathic windbag in a frock? It’s clear to me that the only thing that makes a ‘ powerful politician ‘ is the ability to fuck people over, lie about it , mistreat the MSM and by proxy ‘ us ‘ then swan off with six figures plus entitlements. Money and perks that’d see a beneficiary imprisoned for if caught.
The old bag’s a career politician. That is all.
Little’s a sock puppet on a dodgy hand more used to being found in our farmers pockets fiddling with their not so loose change.
It’s my view that any serious dissection of our ‘ political ‘ parties is only worthy of contempt. Put more simply, they’re common crooks and cunning fuckers to boot so lets treat them thusly. Not pretend they’re worthy of solemn debate.

Unless Little can get that farmer money and re Unite our work force then he’s just one more of Them . Not rocket surgery. Or brain rocketry . ( No disrespect to the good people of Auckland x )

  3. Jacinda has got years ahead of her, and I like that Annette has a few behind her, and she has vast experience, held her integrity, with a sense of humour thrown in, preeetttty blood amazing when you think about how tough it has been!

  4. I’ve found most of the comments she makes in the media quite intelligent, could do a lot worse than her I think.

  5. The confirmed appointment of Annette King as the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party is very positive. Her integrity, extensive political knowledge and experience, communication skills, and highly effective Parliamentary debating ability, make her the right choice for the role of Deputy Leader.

    • +100…a wise decision on the part of Andrew Little…Annette King is a solid performer unlike Jacinda Adern

….and with Jacinda Adern as Deputy behind the scenes you would have to watch your back given her nonsupport of David Cunliffe …and her close ties with Grant Robertson…( a potential Julia Gillard /Kevin Rudd situation)

  6. ”The only downside is the lack of Auckland representation in the Leadership team.”

    Really? Really?

I thought I might have logged on to Whaleoil by mistake. Hootonville or somesuch.

So as if the left (true left anyway) doesn’t have enough problems, you’re now going to create yet another rift for us all to deal with. Auckland vs the rest…

    Hey there latte dudes,

    get over your-fucking-selves!

There’s more to NZ/Aotearoa than your ghastly city for crying out loud.

And please stop hyping up this Shortland St shit that is the Labour Party.

They have succeeded in making themselves completely irrelevant.

    Well done fuckwits… 🙁

    • Just to say -there is also no representation from Canterbury on the leadership team either. We can probably cope though. It is not like anything happens down this way….

Seriously, merit should be the main factor in who gets appointed to what.

  7. Looks like an attempt to hammer Labour and distract before conference………I wonder if we will fall for the bait?
    Surely not?

  8. I cannot see how Annette King can reign in the Labour right when she is ostensibly part of that group herself.
She certainly has experience but her continued presence as deputy leader seems to be calculated to do one thing: keep an eye on Andrew Little and make sure he also keeps to the right path.
If this is the future of Labour then I think they have very little future and National will be entrenched as the default government of New Zealand. A horrifying thought.

    • …I have not seen her supporting jonkey Nact positions …especially over Health …nor have I seen her undermine Andrew Little

…it is many years since Roger Douglas….and she wasnt the only Labour Party person to support him at the time….people change and move on

      • My point is that, to my knowledge, she has never publicly admitted the mistakes of Rogernomics and how it damaged NZ society.

  9. This decision proves exactly what Labour’s major and most imminent problem is: Lack of talent and fresh blood.

Annette King as Deputy, gosh, if that is the best they can do, forget it in 2017. Jacinda is of course not “ready” for the role, if she will ever be. And she has not convinced me all that much with her track record.

Being “liked” or “popular” with many younger voters, who often have no clue what politicians stand for, that is not what qualifies any politician. It is a huge fail, not getting any clear messages across, and I despair, what exactly do Labour stand for? Few that are asked know the answer.

It shows Andrew has no ideas, he rather sticks to what he knows and has, than help others get the knack of the game and the skills and ideas that are needed. I see many half dead faces on Labour’s back benches also, wondering too often, what the hell they actually “do” for the party and its voters.

    • Not possible to capture what Labour stand for in a soundbite mate, and governing the country is a serious job, sorry to bore you.
Match the Labour MP’s back stories with National MP’s back stories and tell me again that it is Labour that have a “lack of talent”….I don’t think so Sir!
As for “fresh blood”, again look at candidates at By elections….nuf said

      • I give you just one example, of where Labour MPs are failing:
It is beyond belief, but it shows how poorly informed of her own area of responsibility Carmel Sepuloni is as spokesperson for social security. She missed this great opportunity to call the Assistant Minister for Social Development a blatant LIAR and guilty of misleading the House of Representatives:

Carmel Sepuloni asked this question in the House (17 Sept. 2015):
        http://www.inthehouse.co.nz/video/39670

She asked Jo Goodhew about details about the Sole Parent Employment Service and also Mental Health Employment Service, run on a trial basis for over a year now, and where NO real data has been made available about their supposed “success”. She asked for a response to conflicting, worrying details she appears to have received by way of an OIA request.

As for the answer by Jo Goodhew, Associate Minister, she was LYING and misleading the House!

First see her details here, on the glossy Parliament website:
        https://www.beehive.govt.nz/minister/jo-goodhew

She claims there is NO obligation for mental health sufferers or sole parents on benefits to take part in the employment referral programs that MSD now use through outsourced, contracted service providers. The truth is that officially there is no obligation for mental health sufferers on health related benefits to join the MHES itself, being the Mental Health Employment Service, but there is certainly an obligation for sole parents to participate, as the following shows:
        http://www.workandincome.govt.nz/documents/forms/sole-parent-support-obligations-and-privacy-form.pdf

There is most clearly an OBLIGATION to take part in such measures, that assist a person that receives the Sole Parent Benefit to get employment. See 2. for part time work obligations!

“take part in any other activities that Work and Income refer me to, such as attend any job training courses, seminars, work experience or work assessments (including rehabilitation, but not medical treatment) that will improve my work readiness or help me get work”

So in denying that there is an obligation, that it is supposed to be all “voluntary” is untrue, and hence Jo Goodhew misled Parliament, which is a serious matter.

More on this whole BS that continues to go on about welfare and the refusal by MSD to reveal info, even via OIA requests, read this:

        https://nzsocialjusticeblog2013.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/mental-health-and-sole-parent-employment-services-msd-withholds-o-i-a-information-that-may-prove-their-trials-a-failure/

We are also told endless porkies about the supposed “evidence” justifying the extreme work ability focus now used:

        https://nzsocialjusticeblog2013.wordpress.com/2015/08/09/msd-and-dr-david-bratt-present-misleading-evidence-claiming-worklessness-causes-poor-health/

Sadly we get endless misinformation, and Carmel Sepuloni could not be bothered to challenge the Associate Minister for the BS she told Parliament and the public. As for the mental health sufferers, they may be told to have a choice to take part, but there is still and implicit expectation put to them by case managers. The sick and disabled on benefits do also have to participate in work preparation measures, and have to undergo work ability assessments, as virtually ALL beneficiares now face such obligations.

I wish some in Labour would bother following all this up, but beneficiaries do not deserve any much attention these days. On the Nation on TV 3 a few weeks ago, even Ann Tolley admitted in an interview that it was very hard to live off a benefit, when commenting on CYFS care children put into homes of mostly beneficiary foster parents.

So why are Sepuloni and others in Labour hardly ever asking the necessary hard questions, and just sit there, and let the front bench try to score points with often silly bits the media love them to raise? Sorry, I have little trust in this kind of “opposition”.

  10. Seems the trolls have visited here recently. Any criticism of neo-liberalism and ACT and they instinctively pop up from under their bridges to spout out a few hail John Keys before disappearing back into well deserved obscurity.
