Economic & Political Sovereignty robbed as TPPA signed

NZ-CORPORATE-FLAG

The economic and political sovereignty of NZ has been sold for a few apples to Mexico and a couple of bottles of milk to America.

The sleepy hobbits of NZ have been as easily conned over the TPPA as they have over mass surveillance. The braindead nature of the mainstream media have not challenged this process and we have been forced into the American Empire with our new corporate overlords now calling the shots over our domestic law making ability.

This is a sad day for NZ democracy in what has been 7 years under National that have had sad day after sad day.

Voting in NZ elections is now genuinely a moot point as it is now only token autonomy we gain, not real democracy.

Key has betrayed us for a sweet job offer post his Prime Ministership, we will not be able to pass health law (sugar tax or smoking restrictions) or cultural law (minimum NZ content requirements on our TV or Radio stations) along with a raft of other laws.

We are being told that this is great for NZ – no it is not. the entire thing is a National Security leash for America to stop Chinese influence in the pacific and the rights being secured are for American hegemonic power, this was never a free trade deal.

This has been the greatest erosion of our economic and political sovereignty in the history of NZ.

    • Frank – it will be “put to Parliament” and ACT’ right-wing muppet, National and the guy with the pekinese on his head (sorry have forgotten his name!) will all vote for it. How will the Maori party vote I wonder?

It will be a sham of democratic [sic.] “vote” to echo the sham of the democracy will will all now have to endure under our corporate oligarchs.

Shame on John Key, Tim Groser and the other traitors.

    • I am glad NZ has signed the TPPA. Although what has been agreed to may not suit everyone, given we do not have enormous clout in the world we needed to be part of this trade agreement – the alternative is not worth thinking about.

Many of the commenters in the various posts are suggesting the world is now at an end – they are either guessing what is in the agreement or were part of the negotiating team. Well done Helen Clark, John Key and Tim Groser plus their support groups – both Labour and National.

      • Here is the alternative that, according to you, is not worth thinking about:

Maintaining the ability of successive governments to control sales of land to over seas buyers
Maintaining control over our environmental laws
Maintaining control over our employment laws, including workplace health and safety and protection of workers’ rights
Avoiding crippling costs of medication as big pharmaceutical companies dictate the prices for medication
Avoiding litigation as a result of a multinational corporation deciding that somehow, we are obstructing its ability to make a buck

But hey, none of that is really worth thinking about, right?

      • Grant of Wellington – is that a pseudonym for Mike Hosking? Go on – drop the disguise. Either that or you’re tongue cheeked copycatting Seven Sharp.

    • Does it really matter if the Crown’s parliament is also, like the politicians, agreeable to treason?
They are not giving the effected party, the people of NZ disclosure which means the people of NZ do not agree, there is no lawful contract. The Media and corporation of NZ are just telling people over and over that it was agreed so they accept it like sheep.

    • The resources being transferred in the TPPA are not owned by the corporation of NZ trade minister, so whatever agreement he signed is not valid in law.

Parliament also doesn’t own the resources and are not the effected party in the TPP contract.

  1. All we have to wait for now is New Zealanders moaning about higher costs of medicine etc (without taking responsibility for supporting National, of course)

    • The ones it will affect most don’t give a rat’s arse Esoteric – they have medical insurance that they can claim back prescription fees. Once again it will be the poor and lower middle-class who will suffer the most as prescription prices rise.

What really gets me pissed off is that this group, manipulated and sedated by reality TV and a right-leaning compliant media can’t get a balanced enough political view to make sense of all this. Some even vote FOR Key and the cabal, because Key’s a good bloke. However, with this cunning stunt, maybe, just maybe lower middle and poor Kiwis will see this charlatan as the creepy, devious uncle that turns up to weddings and funerals, filling his pockets with savouries.

BTW, the ‘cunning stunt’ was so very nearly a Freudian (but accurate) malapropism, that would have required bleeping by Scarlet Mod..

      • @ WINNIE – and wait for those with health insurance to start bleating when their fees rise in accordance with the increase in medicines and treatment!

All seems good now for the privileged class, who don’t give a damn for the ordinary Kiwi. But their time is coming and when it does, I hope it hurts and hurts bad!

  2. I think its going to take a big corporation suing NZ in an Investor Disputes Tribunal for many millions over us passing a law most Kiwis agree with before they’ll “rage against the machine” Martyn.

They have to be proven wrong, in terms of lots of money, before they’ll understand.

Because they won’t agree with anything people like Jane Kelsey say, because the MSM label her and others who have spoken out “left wing crazies”.

Despite Kelsey being an expert in law and having many decades of experience, and having seen part of the TPPA docs leaked prior to signing. No. Middle NZ is deeply suspicious of academics and anyone leaning labelled as left by the MSM.

    • I think Jane Kelsey is held in very high regard …despite the msm…she still has a very good profile imo and most NZers are suspicious of this TPPA

….the signing of the TPPA over our heads and contravening our parliamentary and social democracy is entirely on jonkey nactional and we must never let them forget it! ….and sheet all the blame in that direction

  3. If you thought “corporate personhood” was bad. You seen nothing yet of “corporate nationhood” and.. Wait for it SR fans.. EXTRATERRITORIALITY..

  4. Truly a sad day for democracy and sovereignty.
But there is one potential US presidential candidate who will trash TPPA when and if he gets the chance. He has a good chance of becoming president as many in the states are disgusted with the banks dictating and the greedy corporate gangsters controlling everything.

    • Unfortunately, even if he was to win the big prize in American politics, i don’t believe that even he will have enough influence over the senate and congress to change anything

  5. I know our politicians regularly lie to us but Tim Groser seems to genuinely think he has done the right thing – makes me wonder if he’s so focused on the trade stuff that he doesn’t really understand what’s in the rest of the agreement.

    • @ ARRON – plus the fact Groser has FJK bearing down on him, to do what’s right for him (that’s FJK) and his corrupt corporate bankster cronies, both here and in the US.

  6. Sounds like the farmers got a shit deal. Good. The last thing we need is a dairy based economy – pollution & loss of economic potential in other sectors.

The problem is the pharmaceuticals. Good luck to our aging population. Hope you have a house to sell to property investors to pay for your medicine.

    • Sounds like the farmers got a shit deal.

True. Also true is that National’s tame men in Fed Farmers won’t be making too much of a fuss about it.

  7. Because the deal has been done in secret, I’m beginning to wonder now, if this agreement is not only just that of an economic kind, but also if a defence pact is involved. That being that the TPPA nations, are expected to be part of a combined “united” defence force! I wouldn’t be surprised if that was part of the process!

Yeah I know. I’m a paranoid old bird, but I wouldn’t put it past FJK to sign us up to something, anything, if there was a dollar to be turned for him and a pat on he head from his US masters!

  8. Both Groser and John Key should be put on trial for treason.
The citizens of New Zealand clearly showed they did not want this deal, yet they went ahead and signed it. Treason.

  9. I had a brainfart earlier – the guy with the Pekingese on his head is Rt Hon. Peter Dunne. Sorry to my four loyal readers for putting you in a bit of a spin wondering who he was……

  10. Today on Rt channel Watching the Hawkes.
Ford Motor company is asking congress not to ratify the deal, which they say is not a trade deal at all ,very little trade involved.
Congress it seems hasn’t read the details, and already big outcry against them ratifying it.
Big protests and marches in America and the government ignored them all just as our government did.The people are going to swamp congress with complaints and letting congress know they will lose votes big time if they ratify it.
it seems the bigger beneficeries will be Japan and USA , Japan put a block on beef and dairy from nz, to me that is protectionism by the two biggest economies.
See Wake up New Zealand today which states the cabals are losing ground and getting nervous, well worth reading the article.

If NZ opposition parties band together and say it will be cancelled when they come to power, then the participants overseas have been warned.
Key has no right to make a decision that will make future governments subject to his will.
The people to tackle now are the Mps that have to ratify it,they will be bullied into complying by Key,lets hope some of them show some guts and refuse.

    • Yes Elle Ford saw the whole agreement and we now need to request under Official Information Act a copy to see what exactly what Groser has hung us without our consent.

It is only with seeing the whole wording of the agreement that we can do a proper”Informed Consent” process that we would be able to agree to and if not this is an illegal agreement if made in our name.

  11. Yes …it does seem rather like Key spent FAR too much time in the USA , doesn’t it?…

Seems like he even picked up on the methods of George W Bush the war pig… in making anti democratic unilateral decisions with total disregard for the world community ….

Yep….sounds like Key all over if you ask me…

Yes….. treason……yes…. treason charges….sounds good the more people say it…
