Anybody who saw the excellent and sensitive discussion on the difficult issue of removing Māori children from their whanau, on Māori TV Native Affairs programme last night, will realise that, sadly, there are ‘some’ occasions when it is int he best interests to remove the child from their whanau.
Sometimes, the whanau members are just so dysfunctional, that leaving a child with them will only cause more trauma for the child. This is true of all ethnicities, not just Māori.
As for ‘forced sterilisation’, that is a repugnant suggestion, for obvious reasons.
