  1. The Gallows ! Finally, the gallows brings me justice for those interminably boring and gauche barbecues with John fucking Key.

  2. Actually, members of the royal family do a lot of good in raising issues that most readers of The Daily Blog would agree with. Prince William, for instance, is working hard to stop the global trade in engangered species -http://iworry.org/prince-williams-speaks-up-for-endangered-species/

I think it is good for New Zealand to still have the royal family as head of state just as we should have kept the British Privy Council as our highest court. Less chance of corruption as would happen if we appointed our own head of state, such as a President. In the present circumstances for instance, would anyone doubt for a second that Prime Minister John Key would gerrymander his own puppet into that position to take advantage of whatever powers such a President would have at their disposal.

    • I think we’d find being a republic and all the hoo ha that goes along with electing presidents would be far, far more expensive than us operating under a constitutional monarchy. They have little real power, they can’t sell of the family silver, as it were, and the provide a kind of societal glue. Americans without a monarchy still seek something like kings and queens, sadly they pick people like Kim Kardashian to fill the gap.
Be very, very careful what you wish for.
