Corbyn doesn’t sing anthem and British Army threaten coup, Cameron puts his penis into a pig and that’s politics as normal?

Weird isn’t it? The right are in such a tizzy over Corbyn with every pundit predicting Labour will fail. The most spite is coming from centrist Labourites who are furious that the membership have actually done what democratic political parties are supposed to do to gain relevance, and that is give their members the power to select their own leaders.

Labour NZ went through this, the Caucus hated Cunliffe winning and despised the membership for their decision and leaked to journalists whenever they could and ran interference throughout his entire leadership. The message was clear to members ‘you’re there to do our bidding peasants, we are not here to serve you’. Little’s win was more to calm the internal tensions than a genuine leadership moment.

As Cunliffe found out, Corbyn will face huge attacks by the mainstream media and from within his own Party. Look at how one General in the British Army has effectively warned of a coup if Corbyn becomes PM

…Corbyn demands people before profits and the Army threatens revolt? Corbin doesn’t sing the anthem and the media go into meltdown, David Cameron puts his penis in a  pig and that’s just normal behaviour is it?

In a septic wee rant in the Australian Business Review, Phil Quin sums up the level of bitterness on the left as it struggles to find direction.

It’s a ridiculous catch 22 for centrist Labour people like Phil Quin and Josie Pagani. On the one hand they dislike left wing people yet want them to vote for Labour and on the other hand they say Labour needs to be more responsive to voters yet when those voters elect a left wing leader they hate it.

The reality is the obscene inequality modern financial capitalism has generated holds nothing for those who have been left behind and they are demanding a different type of Government. Without any genuine reform of free market capitalism these pressures will not dissipate, they will only build. Corbin, Sanders and Cunliffe understood this and appealed to that section of the electorate, what was their undoing was their own party and a mainstream media that refused to allow the status quo to be challenged.

  1. Yes and unfortunately – these sorts of social revolutions are nothing new at all.

For as long as mankind has walked the Earth there have been those who want to hold inordinate power over the rabble. Unfortunately for them , ….eventually even they saw their own demise when the common people arose.

History is replete with such examples.

From those cultures who practiced a religious hierarchy who used fear ie : human sacrifice to keep a population under control to those more recent examples who tried to use the armed forces to hold the population in check.

The evolution of democracy is a long and bloody story . And it is the most fragile tenure-ship of all.

Those who would use nefarious means to ensure an elite hierarchy are no better than primitive cultures who used superstition and fear to oppress their populations – the only thing different is the modus operandi – but the principle remains the same.

And the most democratic of all systems to date is that of the Social Democracy – preferably with a Keynesian economic base.

Its antithesis is the neo liberal ideology. One which automatically leads to the type of totalitarianism by stealth that we see in the west today.

Any military that threatens national mutiny because a leader advocates social democracy is acting against democracy itself . And that is tantamount to being a fascist armed force. They then place themselves squarely in the position of being the enforcers of that totalitarianism.

For too long apologists such as Pagani and Quin have denied their true motives of being defenders of neo liberalism and their hostility towards Social Democracy. And for too long have they had a disproportionate voice in the public media. It is time now for them to be challenged to force them to either cease their support of anti democracy or leave the Labour party altogether.

We do not need any more Blairite pseudo Labour closet neo liberals contaminating this country.

    Or their grandiose deceptive agendas.

  2. yep, such leaders and would be leaders (Corbyn etc) need to help organise and maintain large grass roots movements of working class people and allies that will go with them and “have their backs” with practical support

as Chile in particular showed 40 years ago–Salvador Allende’s Popular Unity government, social democratic with a marxist tinge, did what it was elected to do–nationalise certain industries etc but US imperialism was not about to accept that and assisted Gen Pinochet to launch a vicious coup and clamp down that still scars the country

the pom military leaders have tried to scare the horses already, Corbyn voters need to understand sooner rather than later that mutinous state forces would have to be met with full on general strikes, neighbourhoods would need to be organised street by street etc

freedom of speech is great for the 1%ers until you say too much!

  3. Not sure that I would put Cunliffe in the same category as Corbyn. Cunliffe has an ego issue that seems refreshingly lacking in Corbyn. Also Corbyn has the years of real activism behind him and the standing up for what he believes in.

  4. We have one of the bastions of western democracy where the military is threatening a coup if the people dare to elect a government that it doesn’t like!!!
Isn’t that the sort of thing you expect from the South Asian pseud-democracies like Thailand, Pakistan and Indonesia? Doesn’t this happen right now in Fiji?
David Cameron’s Tory government should immediately remind the military that its role is to take care of defence and security according what the democratically elected government tell them to do. It is not, and never should be, their role to dictate to the people who they should or should not elect.
Failure to take action on this will show his government to be at best weak, and at worst complicit in using military might to intimidate political opponents. We should not expect such a thing to happen in the country on which our parliamentary system is based.
You can be sure that John Key and our own National government will watching and learning here.

  5. “You can’t put a maverick in charge of a country’s security.”

And yet Colonel Blimp is quite happy to act as a maverick and take charge of a country unelected…

Geez these free market hooligans are DUMB!

  6. SUN SHOCKER!!!!!!!

Jeremy Corbyn was grilled by a detective inspector over alleged electoral expenses infringements after filing dodgy figures, The Sun can reveal.

High court documents have emerged showing he fell foul of the law by not declaring a left wing MP candidate’s full spending following a general election.

He was forced grovel to authorities during a police investigation pleading the mistakes had been ‘inadvertent’.

    CORBYN WAS FORCED TO GROVEL

In one sworn affidavit he admitted forgetting to include the costs of several public meetings but was called out by two witnesses.

In a second affidavit he accepted forgetting to write a cheque and blamed his oversights on ‘misfiling’.

The errors happened following the 1979 general election.

Mr Corbyn was the election agent for ‘Red Ted’ Knight, the Labour candidate for Hornsey.

He was legally responsible for the management of Mr Knight’s election campaign.

When added up, the sum pushed the total spending of his candidate over the maximum spending limit.

    snip

The complainant reported the matter to the police in November 1979.

Mr Corbyn wrote in his affidavit about one meeting omission: “I recognise that the failure to include the expense of £3.45 for the meeting referred to was a serious omission and one which should have not occurred.”

If that’s all they can find on him, I’d say he’s pretty safe.

  7. What is your problem here exactly? The UK media environment basically reflects the situation you favourite for here. There is a strong State media presence on TV and Radio plus a range of national mainstream newspapers reflecting a broad range of editorial views.

  8. Perfect summation . Even I could understand it. Excellent piece @ Martyn Bradbury .

The bit about the British armed forces was more than a little alarming. I didn’t think my predictions would come to fruition so quickly.
Have I not expressed, that when public push meets corporate shove, a shove managed by their all-bought-and-paid-for politicians, then we’d be in deep shit?
I swear to God, the day will come when they no longer need to listen to the public. Now, what’s that called again?? Something beginning with ‘ F’ ?
Either that , or the senior serving general is a puffed-up, sabre rattler gagging for a bit of biffo .

  9. I think Cunliffe underestimated the level of rancour both from without and within. He didn’t have enough loyal people close to him and I think he was a little naive about how venal his opponents could and would be.
Hopefully Corbyn has a tight strong team because it’s going to be one hell of a shit fight.
The C-T polling and spin machine are no doubt in overdrive working out the chinks in Corbyn’s armour – or indeed his strengths. Recently watched The Hollow Men documentary online (recommended) and they followed the Karl Rove philosophy to attack the opponent’s strengths (Helen Clark’s integrity – which they blew up with the so-called paintergate).

  10. Well done Martyn,

Yes the weird right wing nuts are freaking out now and firing all manner at Corbyn but the bullets bounce off and make them look like frightened children now.

Worse the right wing nuts should own up to is that the Defence force should never become political anyway!!!

If they’re encouraged by the MSM to do so and give them all the free air time, they had better realise they are inciting a military cue here, as you say we are becoming a military Junta under Marshall ruled state as we go forwards.

  11. That threat from a British General reminds of what Henry Kissinger said in 1973 before the democratically elected socialist President Salvador Allende was overthrown. “I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go Communist due to the irresponsibility of its people.”
