It’s difficult to conclude that National are nothing but grateful for the Christchurch earthquake. Remove the failing dairy industry and the Auckland property bubble and rebuilding from a natural disaster is all National have to pretend GDP is rockstar-esk.
The ongoing saga in Christchurch of the public shut out of decisions at the cost of property developers, ongoing insurance issues and a rebuild more focused on the wealthy than the poor highlights how poorly National have handled the situation.
Thanks to Campbell Live who kept the issue of the Christchurch rebuild alive, that shows demise means the issue will slowly fade from the mainstream media’s attention.

As a former citizen of Christchurch, I agree wholeheartedly. I still remember cringing when I heard that Gerry Brownlee was appointed as earthquake recovery minister or whatever it was.

It’s not surprising the CHCH “rebuild” will be slowed down deliberately, to give the false impression (in the cooked govt books that is), the economy is on a roll and all is well and thriving in Noddyland!
