AFFCO Talleys strike called off

The strike planned at AFFCO Talley’s sheds and the rally at Parliament on Tuesday has been called off.

This comes after NZMWU Shed Presidents/Secretaries met with Andrew Talley and Iwi leaders, Ken Mair and Tuku Morgan yesterday.

AFFCO sites will meet in the coming days to consider developments.

No further comment will be made by the NZ Meat Workers Union.

  1. “No further comment will be made by the NZ Meat Workers Union.” Why not? Why have they capitulated? If Talleys can refuse to negotiate with any particular union, what is the point of any union? At all?
Surely Talleys refusal to negotiate with the workers chosen union is even more reason to strike.
    Gobsmacked.

  2. My information is that Andrew Talley, Tuku Morgan and Ken Mair invited all of the MWU presidents of the AFFCO branches to a secret meeting at an undisclosed location. The CTU and the national executive of the MWU were not informed until the meeting was taking place.

The outcome of the meeting is that the MWU AFFCO branches will be withdrawing from MWU and forming a new union in partnership with Talleys and iwi corporations, based on ‘Maori tikanga’, and begin ‘bargaining’ their own new collective agreement.

    • And bugger the people other than Maori workers, why wont the union fight for the other people?this needs explanation .Wonder what would happen if Non Maori bargained for their own agreement,Maori would be up in arms and calling it discrimination.unless the union has something up its sleeve that we don’t know about.

Expect this blog will go in another file,so problem not fixed yet.
