Another ratings train wreck for TV3…

TV ratings: New look Masterchef fails to rise
A new home and fresh line up of judges were not enough to entice viewers into the Masterchef kitchen last night, delivering the lowest-rating premiere episode of TV3’s local reality line up.

181,000 viewers aged 5-plus tuned in to last night’s episode, according to Nielsen, well behind fellow reality series Dancing With the Stars, X Factor NZ and The Bachelor.

It’s a far cry from Masterchef’s glory days, when a record-setting 1.1 million Kiwis tuned in to watch the season four premiere in 2013 on TV One.

…like a similar story about the News ratings slump, there is no acknowledgement at all that this ratings slump is being caused by the boycott against TV3.

It’s like no one in the media can connect TV3’s decision to dump Campbell Live and our decision to stop watching them.

Campbell Live generated ratings in his final shows that we some of the best in his career and none of us will forgive TV3 for the damage they have caused to our public broadcasting landscape by killing off Campbell Live.

The boycott stays in place until TV3 go back to John Campbell.

So say all of us.

  1. Good. Long may the ratings continue to slide into the MediaWorks/TV3 stinking cesspit of sludge!

BRING BACK CAMPBELL LIVE for some intelligent broadcasting.

    • Time to get smarter.

Start listing the advertisers of the Christie/Weldon shitefest and then start targeting the advertisers.

Weldon and Christie still have to turn a profit even after getting rid of that “left-wing bastard”.

      • Winnie I agree with you re targeting the advertisers. A brilliant idea. However, how do we do that, without contaminating ourselves by tuning in to the odious channel?

        • We apparently have a lot of ‘tin-foil-hat-wearers’ that frequent these pages. Perhaps we can persuade one of those to take some anti-emetics (metachloprimide, ondansetron,), put some extra tin-foil on and watch TV3 and record their advertisers.

Any volunteers to take one for the team?

We could crowd-fund counselling for the volunteer as well. The advertisers could be listed here?

  2. They can make the connection Martyn, it is just that they won’t admit it and/or they haven’t worked out how to spin it yet!

We must keep the boycott up. I hope it is really hurting them in the balance sheet!

  3. As much as I’d like Campbell to return to the small screen, TV3 does not deserve him. Investigative journalism is hard enough but that job is made even harder when you don’t have the support of management when you are challenging the country’s powerbrokers. If I was John I’d never want to return to that environment.

  4. There may be some connection with the boycott but sorry Martyn I think the main problem is the crap they are showing. Not just that they repeat the same thing 3 – 4 times. Then follow it up with puff pieces in herald who needs to know about Dancing with the Stars “stars” and see each episode multiple times!

  5. the dumbing down continues Paul Henry Seven sharp Hosking.
the person that really disappoints me it Hilary Barry who cried when Campbell left but became part of the system part of the Dumb.

    • She did weep on that last Friday, but now she is playing up with Paul Henry. I am afraid that really disappoints me as I thought she was more of a professional than that. But it seems that professionalism is something that isn’t so important now – its the Paul Henry squeals, and the crap on the other side as well. When you are aiming at a lowest common denominator type of audience you aren’t going for anyone with a brain.

  6. No deal. They turned off the JC, and lost me forever. I’ll watch him on Maori, tv1 or 2 or indeed 7. Never again on that corporate hate machine 3.

  7. How the hell can you stay sane in the room with the laughing hyena Paul whats his name?

OI feel sorry for Hillary I know she is in our team and heart.

  8. I have gone off t.v since Campbell gone…, short of a few things on the Maori channel…….actually though, I doo confess to being a bloody* Coro addict tho! …Ha ha, thk god it is on TV 1, I say.

  9. As long as I continue to think that I’m getting at Julie Christie with my boycott, I will continue.

    It will continue…

  10. Paul Henry was laughing about Baron Sewel, a peer who oversees standards in the House of Lords and was pictured allegedly taking cocaine with two prostitutes.
Henry said that’s why he wouldn’t be in politics.
However according to Wkipedia “Henry ran as the National Party candidate for the Wairarapa electorate in the 1999 general election. He lost to former radio colleague and New Zealand Labour Party candidate Georgina Beyer by a majority of 3,033 votes”

  11. @Winnie – you’ve got the idea. Let me know the advertisers on during the master chef, dancing with stars ( good grief) , so I can boycott their products as well. As I’m boycotting TV 3 I wouldn’t have glue of any of these advertisers.
