The horror of NZers going to work and never coming home is as much a reality now as it was in the 1800s. The basic right of workers to not die at work has been taken for granted by the lax health and safety rules that are now a sick joke.

The CTU have stepped into social media with this moving video highlighting NZs appalling worker death rates. It’s had a mere 1500 views to date – it deserves far more.

Every NZer needs to see this video and demand the Government stop pandering to their business mates and take worker safety seriously.

Every worker has the right to come home safe to their family after a hard days work, it’s not supposed to be a privilege.

the pressures SMEs put on individuals make them some of the main safety offenders alright, larger corporates tend to have a much more supportive approach to being “worksafe”

kiwi small business owners just love putting that bach, boat and HSV Commodore ahead of research, compliance and a living wage let alone safe work environments and practices

  2. Very powerful. Good on them for getting it out there.
In my experience (27 years as a freezing worker, then employed by a small business for many years), I had more protection in a big worksite.
Small businesses make it difficult to complain about conditions because the worker is usually in the business owner’s presence all the time and the owner takes concerns personally.
There is a lot of pressure to trivialise safety concerns in order to keep in with management.
