Teachers vs Police

Bears-and-Police

I wish that we showed Police the same level of scrutiny we seem to show Teachers.

Let’s be clear, there are dodgy Teachers who should never have been allowed near young people, but our national love affair at unfairly ripping teachers down doesn’t seem to be shared when it comes to Police.

Take this case of a Police Officer who has been let off abuse charges…

Cop’s child assault charges withdrawn
A police officer accused of repeatedly beating a young girl has had the charges against him withdrawn by the Crown.

The officer – who is based in the North Island and has been involved in anti-family violence campaigns – was one of four extended family members accused of a six-year campaign of sustained violence against the child, who is now 13.

On one occasion it is alleged the cop smashed her in the back several times with a piece of wood, knocking her to the ground.

She sought refuge by crawling under a nearby car but he allegedly dragged her out by the leg and continued the attack.

Police confirmed yesterday he was back at work on full duties.

…where’s the outcry at this? When a student makes a speech attacking Teachers as lazy, it’s headline news, a cop repeatedly beats a young person and the crown drops the bloody charges!

Student makes speech getting shitty at teachers – wall to wall coverage.

Cop repeatedly beats young person and the cops drop the charges against him – barely a whisper.

We should always be critical of those we task with teaching our children or policing our streets, but the demented manner in which we crucify Teachers while letting Police off says something unpleasantly anti-intellectual about us as a country.

  1. When you’ve got people like Slater on a malevolent campaign to malign any thing to do with teachers and schools, including I acknowledge wrongdoers, there is always likely to be a festering environment.

(Except of course if it’s anything to do with charter schools.)

    • “When you’ve got people like Slater on a malevolent campaign to malign any thing to do with teachers and school”

Where do you get that from? I’ve never seen him once call out a teacher that didn’t deserve it.

  2. Nope, I don’t understand it either. The cop should have been fired and never allowed to be a cop again. Absolutely disgusting and I don’t understand why the media hasn’t made a big hoo-hah about it.

As for the girl she was an idiot and her speech displayed naivety and a lack of wisdom. But she’s 15 so what else do you expect? At least she was showing a bit of guts for lack of a better word. And the media making a big deal out of it was completely out of line. All they did was make a mountain out of a molehill and maybe even embarrassed the poor girl which she didn’t deserve.

  3. The media only show us what the politicians want us to see…. We all know this. Anyone caught belittling JK will get the axe faster than a Nat MP can break a law…

    • Can you find a scrap of evidence to support that assertion?

I think what many of you here don’t understand or cannot accept is that John Key is by far the most popular and successful prime minister this country has seen in many decades.

That’s not just me saying that – it’s in all the opinion polls.

Before the last election the left of centre elements in the media (you know, the one having the carnal relationship with the leader of the opposition…) tried to drive the agenda rather than just report it and the result was that they were made a laughing stock by the electorate.

So now they’ve been found out, they’ve had to wind their neck in somewhat. They tread carefully around JK.

  4. When I read that article I just could not believe what I had read. I am appalled by this and it makes me wonder why the media did not make this front page news. Who was this man?

  5. Teachers/education system have/will be under attack until all education is privatized and we are all dumbed down or bullied into submission, one way or another.

Look at the films, drama, sitcoms,so called reality programs-cops,boarder control, even cooking shows etc.
Print media, opinion, editorials and digital. Add music, art and
carefully monitored talk back shows. Comedy even.

    Nastiness,violence,moral decadence and bullying everywhere!

It is a program to destabilize society/populations to become ignorant
    and more pliable/controlable.

Unless we all stand up and do something about it!

    Cheers.

    • I suspect you are right, Iain. The Teacher’s union is one of the last bastions for organised workers, and this is anathema to the New Right. Going by whatever agenda they have in store, the teacher’s unions should have been despatched back in the 1990s.

It is bizarre that here in New Zealand, successive Tory governments and their right-wing lackeys deride teachers at every opportunity – whilst in Finland, they are highly respected and well paid. Finland occupies the top spot in the OECD’s PISA rankings for educational achievement.

Irony-upon-bizarre, National insists on pursuing the Charter School model (a means by which private schools are subsidised by the taxpayer) from the US – rather than the Finnish model.

But then, ideology trumps common sense every time when it comes to National government policies.

      • So Frank if the Charter School experiment proved to be a success (as the initial statistics are showing it is) would you change your mind regarding their adoption?

Or is your prime motivation to prop up the PPTA regardless of the poor outcomes for the children?

I ask this because a couple of days ago you were banging on about school meals, like as if you cared about the children.

  6. Remember when NatZ loudly run down Helen Clark for being the “Nanny State” and conducting social engineering?

NatZ have redesigned the social engineering in NZ to become a “test tube Society” like the awful Dr death Josef Mengele did when he used Jewish enslaved subjects remember?

    http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007060

Next FJK will carry out even more grotesque experimental controls on our population next beginning with the elderly infirmed unemployed and vagrants just you wait and see.

This man is pure evil. Supposed to be Jewish is Key?

Heck is like! He is an imposter believe me.

  7. The increase in managerialism of the profession is taking it’s toll. Many Principals are so demoralised by the move away from curriculum and pedagogy, something they are highly skilled at, to a workload mostly made up of form filling bureaucracy and targets. Many are retiring now because they are fed up with it.

The thing is, most parents, who are the ones who meet real teachers doing real work, have a high regard for them. Sure there are some who will sue the school which doesn’t give their precious child the lead in the school play, but most parents are more sensible than that.

I met a teacher in one of Auckland’s posh schools who told me about the bizarre sense of entitlement that was being instilled into the children by their wealthy parents.

  8. This story is outrageous, how could this violent policeman be let off and be back at work apart from corruption? Someone in Parliament needs to ask questions of the Minister of Police. Oh what has our country become, it is very disturbing….

    • Well it’s Tolley innit – next to Hekia and Gerry and god so many other worthless pillocks – the worst Gnat minister available. Chosen for her lack of talent.
