Slip sliding away, the ‘white-gold rush’ of over expanding the dairy industry suffered another ‘death by a thousand cuts’ overnight as the latest auction reduced milk powder prices by a further 6%,
An even larger % of New Zealand dairy farmers are now reliant for the life support system of further borrowing from the Banks to produce millions of liters of milk that they will be selling at less than the cost of production,
Welcome to the Greece of the South Pacific, i have tho Tonto, a plan, lets as a Governing National Party promise further tax cuts for the 2017 election there is after all another 60,000 State Houses to be flogged off to enable a ‘balancing of the books’,
i do tho digress, the prognosis for the dairy industry doesn’t get any better looking out into the next 5 years,
The New Zealand dairy industry has the EU and US to thank for its current woes have 18 months ago imposed economic sanctions on Russia for crimes real and imagined,
The Russians always obliging simply said ‘lets gentlemen do this properly then’ and stopped all imports of food products from the EU, US, Canada, and, Australia, (interestingly leaving New Zealand off the import ban list thank you very much Mr Putin),
The result of such tit for tat sanctions of course is that 80% of the dairy production of All EU countries which was previously sold directly to Russia is now flooding the international marketplace,
Not being able to take ‘a hint’ the EU have extended their economic sanctions and who would have thunk it, the Russians this week extended their ban on importing food from those countries mentioned above for another year,
Economic instability aside its absolutely laughable to watch the chimps in charge build this grand ‘international free market’ only to engage in an orgy of gouging off their own nasal protuberances with broken
bottles, destroying it by the imposition of ‘economic sanctions’ which have never throughout history lead to anything other than armed conflict,
The New Zealand dairy industry lead by Fonterror have, to put forward a gross understatement, been slow to react as the sanctions translate into an ongoing series of price falls for their products,
The Russians, like many of us here, can live quite happily without butter and cheese, and, why Fonterror at the point of New Zealand NOT being included in the Russian import ban didn’t immediately offer to sell its products directly into the Russian markets can either be put down to stupidity or a fear of the American controlled Bankers who, if they withdraw the oxygen of further lending to the already over-indebted New Zealand dairy industry have at their fingertips the ability, with a computer stroke, to immediately turn us all into a carbon copy of the Greek economy…
+100…NZ should have switched to selling dairy to Russia ….the door was wide open for them
…but jonkey nactional prefers NZ farmers go to the wall
” Fonterra said it had nine factories registered that could export dairy products to Russia, and before the scare there had been 73.
Prior, a former ambassador to Russia and chief executive of export company Prior Group, said the Government should use Russia’s boycott of some US and European imports as an opportunity to position New Zealand’s trade with Russia.
Prior said that Prime Minister John Key had recently warned Fonterra not to take advantage of the boycott, yet Pepsi and Danone had invested heavily in the Russian dairy sector through two major Russian companies…
…Russians were no longer going to restaurants as much, and they were switching from “fancy” cheeses to more generic products.
Prior argued that these were the sorts of products New Zealand could provide, just as in the 1970s New Zealand had been the first country to have branded dairy products enter Russia.
NatZ rockster economy was just that “a rock” that is falling on our heads as this stupid NatZ mob is spending big again on roads????
They have really lost the plot and should have sold to Russia as Muldoon did sell our oversupply of old butter back in 1983.
This was similarly when we were getting squeezed then.
We would have been secure now the stupid dumpster’s.
If NZ decided to sell dairy to Russia, Johnny Boy would have got a call from his bosom buddy Obama. Tut tut tut.
Good to see New Zealand is in control of its own destiny…yeah right.
