Saudi farm deal could cost more taxpayer money
More taxpayer money could be spent on a controversial demonstration farm in Saudi Arabia but nothing is planned at present, Prime Minister John Key says.Over $11 million on the private farm deal, partly to resolve a dispute and clear the way for a regional free trade deal.
The latest controversy surrounding the deal came after revelations that lambs born to ewes that were air-freighted from New Zealand to Hmood Al Khalaf’s farm suffered an extremely high death-rate.
After Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy said a sand storm could be to blame for the deaths, it was confirmed that heavy rain and illnesses were the cause.
They couldn’t even get their story right on what caused all the lambs to die, and now we are told this bribe to get a free trade deal with a country that treats woman slightly better then that are treating our sheep will cost us MORE?
FFS.
This is an outrageous waste of cash, clearly we haven’t bribed the Saudi’s enough, that’s what Key’s comment really means. We’ve thrown them $11m and they obviously consider that chump change.
Why bribe a country with the kind of horrific human rights record the Saudi’s have for a free trade deal, I mean if there is a candidate for ‘we won’t trade with you, because you are pretty awful’, it’s the bloody Saudi’s.
Seeing as the Saudi’s originally funded and resourced ISIS, the same ISIS we are now fighting in Iraq, bribing the Saudi’s for a trade deal seems like the least of the issues we should be discussing.

Snapped bribing a Saudi minister for murky reasons that yet again involve John Key and his lickspitle Murray McCully and then using an elaborate story that the bribe was to pre-empt court action for stopping live sheep exports, and when that looked pretty unconvincing that the NZ Government was setting up a “Agrihub” to showcase New Zealand’s farming skills we find that the millions of taxpayer dollars spent ending in the wholesale death of most of the sheep and lambs, sent to graze on sand in the 50 degree desert heat from where they were dumped. Yep, that makes us look real good!
So Key simply made shit up to buy time into opposition enquiries into the subject insinuating that Labour were the reason for this disgrace and that he had secret cabinet papers to prove it.
Then his government blocked OIA requests from Labour to see this “proof” and when finally David Parker somehow managed to release the papers Key ensured parts were “redacted”, to principally carry on the threat. But it turns out it was all a lie. Both the redacted and complete documents showed no such information. Key made it all up and with McCully out of the country the subject has faded away.
Our PM simply made it up to stop the bleeding on what is a very corrupt piece of behaviour by his government. Our Prime Minister, no less, to save his arse, to cover up something bloody dodgy. What new low has the political leadership of this country sunk to? The opposition are playing the game by far different rules and standards to ones Key sinks to.
The daily papers and most news channels have faithfully not reported it and this only adds to the corruption but Matthew Hooten has in the NBR, amongst others. Its free on smart phones.

If there is ANY country that should be the recipient of far-reaching global sanctions, it’s Saudi Arabia. Instead we are doing the EXACT opposite and want a free trade deal with them??? What does that say about us?
The parliamentary opposition is completely lacking on this one. If ever there was a gold plated opportunity to kick the nats in the goolies then this is it. Key lied (again) when he suggested that Labour was considering the same bribe…. now the mass mistreatment and deaths of the sheep, and the opposition are MIA. Its pathetic.
By the way, has anybody pointed out the bleeding obvious… a sheep farm in the middle of the saudi desert …. how can that work??? Am I missing something?
This spineless corrupt government would bankrupt us all to sell a trade deal to another crooked government.
Key is making us into a global joke and he will pay for this as people are reaching the end of their patience on how this lot have cut and slashed our own subsidies more our less fortunate but are still pushing public funds into the back pockets of these corrupt global blackmail operators.

This may be of interest to some of you as it’s clearly part of the same deal.
The livestock carrier Nada -callsign HP7329-(owned by Far Seas Shipping of Beirut,Lebanon)is headed for the Mexican port of Mazatlan,which is currently being transformed into a Gulf-style resort by a privately(Saudi?) owned Dubai based company called Hydra Properties.
The Nada is due in Mazatlan in 3 days(26 June).Interestingly,on MarineTraffic.com,the ships last known port was Tianjin in China on 24 May. No mention of Timaru. Was the ships’ tracker turned off when it entered NZ waters?(It only showed up again as it passed through French Polynesia.)If so,at whose request?
One possible scenario:The sheep will be offloaded,the paperwork done and then they could well be reloaded (perhaps after the lambs are born to boost the numbers)and shipped to the Middle East for further errr… ‘processing’.
Of course,with no local bans in place they can be exported as ‘Mexican’ sheep.
Also wonder who instructed Timaru Port to keep this under wraps.(and what was their ‘reward’)?
God it gets worse by the day …I agree Clare, the hajj festival is in July isn,t it… I,d like to tie John Key and his corrupt, sycophant cronies to post and give them the best of their Saudi mates punishments… 1000 lashings!
Hajj will be at the end of September this year.
