I’m no expert on Maori carvings but…

So the law on kauri is that if it is Maori art, it can be exported, which is good and proper, but it seems that this is becoming a loophole and the barest of markings can equate to ‘Maori art’.

Look at the following logs…

…now I’m no expert on Maori carvings but this looks like a scam right?

  1. Typical that it someone married to an ex (alleged) corrupt Natz Minister.
It seems (to Joe Average Kiwi that) as if the higher up the Natz party they go, the less they feel they have to abide by the laws that us commoners have to, Gerry Brownlee (airport), John Key lying non stop, Bill English fiddling housing expenses and on and on.

  2. The worst thing about all of this is the fact that mp Judith Collins has a direct link to this business through her husband… No one is going to make a real effort in trying close this loophole.

They are all benefiting from this… Hope they do though, I hope they dish out some massive fines or worse.

  3. Yes the press (or what we have left of it) should be right on Judith Collins and Key’s tail until they desist ramming through any rotten further deals to benefit themselves.

One can see they are proud of flaunting anything from stealing land to stealing the mighty Kauri which is at the heart of Māori spiritualty don’t they know this as yours truly a pakeha does?

    • Judith Collins’s husband’s involvement in this seems to have died a natural death following Morning Report’s revelation about this a few days ago.
Conclusion: National have told journalists employed by the state broadcaster to lay off their mates or else!
This National government is so consistently corrupt that New Zealanders now think of corruption as normal practices.

Mike, that assertion is truer than most people think.

        Remember the reaction to Nicky Hager’s book from various media, commentators, political pundits, et al;

“Oh we knew politics was always like this. What’s new?”

A mixture of cynicism and fatalistic acceptance – not exactly a sound basis for a functioning democracy.

  4. Stone the bloody crows !….next it’ll be mountain vista’s , black sand and taking all the regulations off our shellfish so they can come over here and plunder at will.

Hang on a minute…they’ve already done just about all that !!!

  5. It’s a scam alright, which can be traced right back to a particular NatzKEY MP, whose spouse is involved doing business in the trade deal!

MPI has no records of the exportation of Swamp Kauri? WTF?

If a small business was this negligent in its record keeping, in particular with exporting, it would be up to its eyeballs in big trouble!

So why is MPI allowed to get away with this?

Seems like a state sanctioned protection racket going on, with all the rest of the corruption infecting NZ, through the sordid odour of this disgusting, filthy cesspit of a government!

    • Don’ worry , Buggsy …..all’s we gotta do is keep wearin da double vested pin stripes suits , our Fedora’s and da spats and we can rig the deal our way everytime.

Oh , …and by da way….get Vinny to clean the sideboards of da Ford….we gotta keep dat vehicle clean afta every dirty deal we make – cant have da public thinkin we’s da bad guys , huh ?

    • Well, if you virtually disembowel MPI as a policing and enforcement agency through staff/funding cuts, their ability to keep track of anything is going to be severely compromised.

But then, that was probably the intention all along.
