The ‘rumor mill’ here in Wellington is running hot with tales of what provoked National into dipping its toes into Socialist policy by raising a base benefit level for the first time since Norm Kirk’s Labour Government,
That provocation is said to have a name, Marama Fox, mum of lots (9), and, Maori Party co-Leader,
First say the rumors, she had to perform radical surgery upon Te Ururoa Flavell providing Him with a much needed iwituararo,(backbone),
Next say the gossips, Fox had a quiet, forceful discussion with National’s negotiator which spent quite some time discussing the coalition agreement where words such as’ rip-it-up’, and,’if you think we won’t’ were used,
The initial discussions were said to have centered upon a ‘food in schools’ program and when it became obvious that this was a bridge too far as far as National’s long held (stupidity) over ‘parental responsibility’ goes the measures outlined in the budget were accepted by National as the smallest of the dead rats they would have to swallow in order to cling to the treasury benches and retain the smallest vestige of appearing to be the Government….

Trying to find out what New Zealand’s national debt stands at – seems to vary from site to site, but on this one it’s about $108 billion and climbing by the second – http://www.johnpemberton.co.nz/html/government_debt.html
While this one says about $90 billion.
